Fine Arts Cohort The goal o f the GRCHS Fine Arts Cohort is to o ffer students a high-quality artseducation, regardless o f background, previous experience, or even beginningability level. The purpose o f the arts is not always to create eminent individualswho will change the world through their art, but rather, to allow humans tointeract with each o ther and communicate in ways that are only possiblethrough communal, creative experiences. The Fine Arts Cohort program will engender a love for the arts, an appreciationof various talents and abilities, and an understanding o f the mysteries o f thecreative and performing arts through rigorous and varied instruction throughouta student's high schoo l career. Summary o f Instruction Through intensive instruction in visual art, vocal or instrumental music, drama,and, in the near future, dance, students' talents are further developed to createbetter artists, actors, musicians, and dancers. Students learn about theory,application, and performance from highly qualified teachers in their arts area,and create products to share with each o ther, their peers, and the community. Using exemplary works as inspiration and teaching too ls, the Cohort studentsparticipate in several field trips throughout the year to broaden their perspectiveof and appreciation for not only their arts area, but all the rest. All Fine Arts Cohort students were required to participate in a meaningful way tothe production o f Shrek the Musical . Many students are on-stage acting andsinging, but some perform in the pit, while o thers are backstage helping to runthe show, or even running tech or lights. Learning through so lving problemsand working together toward a common goal are key elements o f the program. The Cohort is an audition-only program within GRCHS. Small class sizesallow for more personalized attention and stronger relationships between theteacher and students, and the students with each o ther.
