“Unlike other media organizations, our team has direct access to live match data from each
of the courts–we wanted to turn this to our
advantage by getting the data to help us trace
the narratives of the tournament in real time.”
To develop match statistics for IBM SlamTracker®, Wimbledon leveraged 48 court-side experts, who captured approximately 3.4 million data points, allowing them to track shot types and the outcome of each point.

Wimbledon was able to break
the news about milestone
announcements as a result of the notifications its
media team received as a
milestone approached.

“The clever part is that the streaming tool
didn’t just notify us when he hit the 1,500th winner–it gave us early warning when he had
hit his 1,497th.”
