Where site supply voltages fluctuate or a constant (+/- 1.25%) output voltage is required, the Wilson e2+ transformer comes with a nine position on load tap changer. This adjusts the
taps automatically to maintain a constant secondary output voltage (relative to input
voltage fluctuations) via an “AVR” relay.
whAt Are AmOrphOus metAl cOre trAnsfOrmers? The cores of conventional transformers consist of stacks of laminations that are made from silicon steel with an almost uniform crystalline structure (CRGO). In transformers with amorphous cores, a ribbon of steel is wound forming the core.
The big benefit of amorphous transformers is that amorphous steel has lower hysteresis losses. Simply put, this means that less energy is wasted in magnetising and demagnetising it during each cycle of the supply current, which results in significantly reduced core losses.
The infrared pictures (above) illustrate this: The AMT core (right) shows a lot less heat than the CRGO core (left).
wilsOn e2 AmOrphOus key benefits:
• Energy savings of up to 15%
• Payback between 3-32 months
• No need for additional Voltage Optimisation equipment
• Reliable and proven: Over 250 units installed
• Interchangeable with most existing installations
In spite of a slightly wider footprint, the Wilson e2
is interchangeable with most existing installations,
enabling straightforward transformer replacements.
The higher up front capital investment for the Wilson e2 transformer typically achieves payback in less than three years (based on loss savings alone) and can be as short as a couple of months (where a site is able to benefit from Voltage Optimisation - see page 12).
The Wilson e2 provides two areas of savings:
Guaranteed savings through reduced transformer losses
our Wilson e2 transformer combines amorphous core material with low current density conductors to provide lowest combined transformer losses. Based on an average 25-year transformer lifespan, a 1000kVA Wilson e2 transformer achieves typically £65,000 worth of energy costs savings during its service through loss savings alone.
Substantial potential savings through Voltage Optimisation
The Wilson e2 transformer will be manufactured to suit your exact requirements. If your supply voltage is high and you could benefit from reducing it, the unit will be designed to deliver your desired output voltage. In addition the e2 comes with an extended tapping range at no extra cost allowing you to further adjust output voltage when needed.
Our Wilson e2 transformer range combines amorphous core technology with low current density conductors to create a super low loss transformer product that achieves convincing savings in both energy costs and associated CO2 emissions.
Wilson e2 transformers have helped organisations, including leading supermarket giant TESCO, the Natural History Museum and the NHS, to reduce operating costs and associated emissions.

voltage management
Depending on your supply voltage and the voltage dependent loads at site you can achieve reductions of up to 15% in electricity consumption. In addition, equipment life can be prolonged as a result of improved operating conditions.
Wilson offers Voltage Management solutions to suit your specific power needs: from our super efficient supply transformers, Wilson e2 (MV applications) to our Wilson VO Voltage Optimisation units (LV applications), our engineers are dedicated to help provide the most efficient and cost effective solution for your business.
N.B. In order to assess suitability for Voltage Optimisation, your incoming voltage will need to be monitored.
Voltage Management is an umbrella term for energy-saving techniques that systematically optimise the supply voltage to a site in order to reduce energy losses in equipment.
Wilson e2 transformer technology achieves savings in
perpetuity, combined with intangible benefits including
increased machinery longevity through lower voltage
running, closer to the design specification.
