WILLIAMSON COUNTY NEWCOMERS CLUBEnter as Strangers-Leave as Friends

October 2019Message from the President:

Phew!! Our first meeting is over, and according to those attending it was a success. I want to thank all of you for your reception, patience and attendance. What a speaker!! He was great fun – entertaining and informational – he made the history of Cheekwood come alive. When anyone comes to visit me, I always include Cheekwood as part of the sights.

October is one of my most favorite months – I can usually hike without blistering heat and the exercise feels great. The other part of October that I love is that HALLOWEEN ends the month. When I lived in Rockford, IL, many of my neighbors felt the same way. I lived in an area where people went all out for decorating. My neighbors had holograms on their garage doors, antique cars inhabited with skeletons, and mist all over the yard with cobwebs adorning the lawns, etc.

However, one of our WCNC members outdoes any of my former neighbors. I want to put a plug in for Robin Gray’s abode. Every other year, Robin and her husband start in July and work straight thru to October 30th to make their residence one step above the most daunting Halloween movie you have ever seen. When you and your family are out at night in late October, take a drive by their home for one of the most entertaining times you will have in the season. Even their neighbors approve of the decorating. I can honestly guarantee that most of you have never seen anything like it – you talk about creativity. It is an incredible outing.

It has been brought to the Boards’ attention that some of our members have allergies and sensitivities who cannot tolerate strong scents, such as perfumes and hair products. Let’s try to remember to be sensitive to those members. Please let the Board know if there is anything that we can do to help you share our fun.

Jane Coffey

BOARD MEETING: October Board meeting will be held Tuesday, October 8th, 10:00 a.m. It will be held at Robin Gray’s home. Please RSVP by October 6th to Robin, if you are planning to attend: [email protected] or 615-310-5687.

In response to my plea, two volunteers stepped up to co-chair this activity with me so now we are three with a potential fourth by next month - yay!

SUNSHINE

We are kicking off a new year and hoping for a sunny, healthy fall. Unfortunately, knee surgeries were common this summer, now behind us, with all doing better. Also, we have reports of ailing husbands. Encouragement cards were sent to Arlene Berexa, Arlene Euler, and Judy Tujague with comforting thoughts as they navigate the challenges of chronic issues.         Let’s be there for each other! Please advise me of anyone who needs a note of cheer or sympathy.Reports of happy events will also be welcome to share. In Friendship and Support,
