GRADE 7 QUAD SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT The Grade 7 Quad School Volleyball Tournament that was cancelled in December due to a
snow day, has been rescheduled for Friday, January 20th from 1- 4:30pm at Credo Christian
High School. Parents are asked to pick up their child(ren) from the high school after the
tournament. Permission slips with further details were sent home today.
FSA’s
During the coming weeks, the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) will again be conducted at schools
across the province. The FSA is an annual province-wide assessment of our province’s students'
academic skills in grades 4 and 7, and provides a snapshot of how well BC students are learning
foundation skills in Reading Comprehension, Writing, and Numeracy. While statistically it may be
questionable to read too much into results for students in a particular (small) school, over time results
do give indicators of trends and overall strengths and weaknesses of an educational program. Not only
can the testing experience be a learning opportunity for students, but the tests also offer parents an
independent assessment of your child’s skills. Consequently, we’re happy to participate.
OPEN HOUSE Staff and students of William of Orange Christian School, cordially invite all parents and
grandparents to our annual Open House, January 25th from 9am - 12:05pm. The
morning will begin in the school gym with an assembly, including our annual spelling
bee, followed by refreshments in the library and mingling with students. After recess
we will hold our annual grade 6/7 badminton final in the gym. Regular classes will then
resume with the opportunity for guests to wander through quietly and observe. We look forward to
seeing many of you on the 25th!
To cause as little disruption as possible to the learning and instruction, babysitting will be provided for all
preschoolers in the Cloverdale church.
Grade 4/5 students are requested to bring baking for the Open House. Please bring the baking to the
gym kitchen in the morning before school begins.
BABYSITTERS NEEDED If anyone is willing to babysit the morning of January 25th for the school open house, or knows someone
who would be willing, please contact the school office ([email protected]). Thank you!

SPLITZ/TAEKWONDO/CURLING
As some of you have probably already heard, Splitz is no longer offering school fieldtrips. The staff has
been considering other options to replace the Splitz fieldtrips. Thanks to a parent’s suggestion, we have
scheduled Taekwondo classes for the grades K-5 students. Instructors from Chang’s Taekwondo will be
coming to our school on Wednesday afternoons, February 1st, 8th, & 15th, and providing each division
with a 45-minute instruction session in the school gym.
The grade 6/7 students will continue the tradition of curling lessons. They will be doing so on
February 20th, 27th, & March 6th at the Cloverdale Curling Rink. Further details and a permission
slip will be sent home at a later date.
SPELLING BEE Many students are practicing for our school spelling bee. If you or your child would like a study list,
email me, and I can send it for you to print at home. ([email protected])
KINDERGARTEN FRIDAYS A reminder that starting on February 3rd, Kindergarten students will be attending school on Fridays as
well as their regular Monday and Wednesday Kindergarten days.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY Books that are added to our library are previewed by adults for appropriateness, etc.
If you’d be interested in helping to pre-read, please contact me. LML … 604-574-5036 or
ANOTHER VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY Are you a parent who is interested in athletics? Every year our students in grade 4-7 (mostly
6-7) participate in various sporting tournaments against other Christian schools in the Fraser
Valley. I am looking to pass the baton onto someone else. This volunteer position involves going
to 2 meetings a year, spring and fall, and organizing with the teachers, which events our school
will participate in. We also help Surrey Christian organize the cross country meet in the fall. If
this is something that you think you would enjoy, email Tania at [email protected].
EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING – SNOW DAYS Just a little reminder - “When extreme weather occurs and creates hazardous driving
conditions, school may be cancelled. Please listen to your radio station, CKNW 980 AM or
Praise 106.5 FM or check the websites www.wofo.org or www.credochs.com for school
cancellations. The decision to cancel school by our transportation committee will be made
by 6:30am. All schools affected will be announced separately by the radio stations.”
