Extraction instructions

Your child has had one or more teeth “wiggled” (removed). These are instructions for proper care to encourage healing and minimize discomfort. Please call the office anytime you have a question or concern.

1. Your child’s mouth is “asleep.” Please watch them closely so that they do not bite their lip, cheeks, or tongue. Normally this wears off in 1 to 2 hours.

2. Do not place fingers in the extraction site. This could cause bleeding or infection.

3. Avoid using straws for 3 days. Also avoid vigorous swishing of liquids.

4. Eat softer foods until regular diet can be tolerated. Also, chewing foods on the opposite side is helpful.

5. You may give Children’s Tylenol or Children’s Motrin as directed on the bottle for relief of discomfort.

6. Please call the office if your child experiences what you consider to be excessive discomfort, bleeding, or swelling.
