She very proud of each one's achievements. William Hicks Family William Hicks was bora 1755 in Virginia. He was a Revolutionary War soldier. William served in the 12th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Army from Sept. 20, 1776to 1778. He also served in the Second Virginia detachment from 1780 to Jan. 17,1782, when he was discharged as a corporal. He married Mary Swanger (Swango) Jan. 2, 1784. William and Mary first lived in Garrard Co. and then moved to Fayette Co. and then back to Garrard Co. William died Dec. 19, 1822, in Garrard Co., and Mary died Aug. 24, 1847, in Jessamine. They had eight children. The first one died at age three months. Moses Hicks, second child of William and Mary Hicks, was born Sept. 2, 1786, and mar- ried Lucy Alcorn, daughter of Robert and Susannah Turpin Welch Alcom, April 16, 1811, inFayette Co. Abraham Hicks, third child of William and Mary Hicks, was born Sept. 30, 1788, and married Patsy Wood July 1,1815, inFayette Co. Abraham andPatsy Hicks were the parents ofThomas, John, and Armstrong Hicks. SophiaHicks, daughter ofWilliam andMary Hicks, was born Sept. 20,1790, and married Edward Combs. They were the parents of Jermiah, W. B., and George Combs. Samuel Hicks, fifth child of William and Mary Hicks, was born Jan. 16, 1793, and married Fannie Cox, June 17,1813, inFayette Co. Samuel died April 6,1861, and Fannie died Nov. 27,1882; both Samuel and Fannie are buried in the Nicholas Cemetery in Grant Co. William Hicks, Jr., son ofWilliam and Mary was born Dec. 4, 1794, and married Rebecca Alcorn, daughter of Robert and Susannah Turpin Welch Alcorn, Jan. 10, 1815, in Fayette Co. William and Rebecca owned two and one-half acres of land in Jessamine and this was where his mother had lived. William and Rebecca lived in Fayette, Gallatin, Jessamine, and Harrison counties in Kentucky. They were the parents of Rice, Alfred, George, Julia and Emily Hicks. William Hicks Jr. served in the War of 1812. He enlisted under the name William Hix. William died March 12, 1868, and Rebecca died July 17, 1875. Abigail Hicks, seventh child ofWilliam and Mary Hicks, was born May 20, 1796, and married George Gorman, son of Abraham Gorman Sr, Aug. 2,1813, in Fayette Co. George died Aug. 23,1872 and both he and Abigail are buried in the Gorman Cemetery, Bethel Pike. They were the parents often children. , Mary Hicks, eighth child of William and Mary Hicks, married Benjamin Goforth, Feb. 11, 1832, in Jessamine County. They had a son, William and a. daughter, Mary Jane. Mary Jane Goforth, daughter of Mary Hicks and Benjamin Goforth, married Joseph Gorman Jan. 14, 1851, in Jessamine Co. Mary Jane and Joseph were my second great-grandparents. As a youth hc^Pmed the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Following graduation from high school in 1945, Harold entered the U.S. Army where he served forthenexttwentymonths.Heenrolledat Transylvania College in 1947, and it was there that he met Mary Lee Williams. Mary Lee and Harold Higgs Mary Lee, born Jan. 25, 1929, was the daugh- ter of the Late Sewell B. and Grace King Wil- liams. She was reared in Jackson, KY, which is located in Breathitt County, home of her Wil- liams ancestors for five generations. Since her mother was a native of Western Tennessee, Mary Lee was influenced by the culture of that region as well as her native Eastern Kentucky. Harold and Mary Lee were married on April 7,1951. They lived in Lexington until January, 1952, when they moved to Nicholasville. Their only child, William Robert, was born on July 7, 1952, and was reared in Nicholasville, attending the local schools and graduating from Jessamine Co. High School in 1970. He received degrees from Georgetown College and Southern Baptist Seminary and now lives in Louisville, KY. Harold retired from the Lexington-Blue Grass Army Depot in 1981 after 32 years of employment. Mary Lee taught in the Jessamine County Schools for 26 years and retired in 1985. Both are active members of the Nicholasville Presbyterian Church, where Harold is an elder and Mary Lee participates in Presbyterian Women. Harold has maintained an interest in amateur radio since his youth and has been a licensed amateur radio operator since j!952f lie is currently a commis- sioner of the Nicholasville Housing Authority and a board member of the Senior Citizens Center. Both Harold andMary Lee are members of the local chapter of A.A.R.P. and Mary Lee belongs to Jessamine County Retired Teachers. William Hicks Family

William Hicks was bora 1755 in Virginia. He wasa Revolutionary War soldier. William served in the12th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Army fromSept. 20, 1776 to 1778. He also served in the SecondVirginia detachment from 1780 to Jan. 17,1782, whenhe was discharged as a corporal. He married MarySwanger (Swango) Jan. 2, 1784.

William and Mary first lived in Garrard Co.and then moved to Fayette Co. and then back toGarrard Co. William died Dec. 19, 1822, inGarrard Co., and Mary died Aug. 24, 1847, inJessamine. They had eight children. The firstone died at age three months.

William and Rebeccalived in Fayette, Gallatin, Jessamine, andHarrison counties in Kentucky. They were theparents of Rice, Alfred, George, Julia and EmilyHicks.

William Hicks Jr. served in the War of 1812. Heenlisted under the name William Hix. William diedMarch 12, 1868, and Rebecca died July 17, 1875.

Mary Hicks, eighth child of William and MaryHicks, married Benjamin Goforth, Feb. 11, 1832, inJessamine County. They had a son, William and a.daughter, Mary Jane.

Mary Lee and Harold Higgs

Mary Lee, born Jan. 25, 1929, was the daugh-ter of the Late Sewell B. and Grace King Wil-liams. She was reared in Jackson, KY, which islocated in Breathitt County, home of her Wil-liams ancestors for five generations. Since hermother was a native of Western Tennessee,Mary Lee was influenced by the culture of thatregion as well as her native Eastern Kentucky.

Harold and Mary Lee were married on April7,1951. They lived in Lexington until January, 1952,when they moved to Nicholasville. Their only child,William Robert, was born on July 7, 1952, and wasreared in Nicholasville, attending the local schoolsand graduating from Jessamine Co. High School in1970. He received degrees from Georgetown Collegeand Southern Baptist Seminary and now lives inLouisville, KY.

Harold retired from the Lexington-Blue GrassArmy Depot in 1981 after 32 years of employment.Mary Lee taught in the Jessamine County Schools for26 years and retired in 1985. Both are active membersof the Nicholasville Presbyterian Church, where Haroldis an elder and Mary Lee participates in PresbyterianWomen. Harold has maintained an interest in amateurradio since his youth and has been a licensed amateurradio operator since j!952f lie is currently a commis-sioner of the Nicholasville Housing Authority and aboard member of the Senior Citizens Center. BothHarold andMary Lee are members of the local chapterof A.A.R.P. and Mary Lee belongs to JessamineCounty Retired Teachers.
