“The Eight” At the Macbeth Gallery

•  The Eight were a progressive group of American reporter-illustrators turned artists.

•  Flaunting the National Academy of Design, they mounted their own independent exhibition at the Macbeth Gallery in New York.

•  This successful exhibition, daring for its era, spiked an interest in realistic, gritty depictions of urban life.

•  The Eight also included John Sloan, George Luks, Everett Shinn, Arthur B. Davies, Ernest Lawson, Maurice B. Prendergast, and Robert Henri.
