Wildwood Interchange at Turnpike & I-75 (Milepost 309) JULY 2013 Project Overview Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) in coordination with FDOT District 5, is proposing improvements to the interchange at the Turnpike Mainline and I-75 in Sumter County. Currently, the close proximity of the I-75/Turnpike and I-75/SR 44 interchange ramps, high truck volumes, and lane-changing maneuvers create undesirable traffic operating condition through this section of roadway. FTE revisited the ultimate PD&E alternative and prepared a new concept that solved traffic operation conditions with less environmental impacts and lower cost. This project ties to a District 5 Design-Build project to the south that widens I-75 from four to six lanes. FTE is advancing the project from FY 2035 to FY 2015. Ongoing Project Activities Interchange improvements are part of the overall PD&E for widening the I-75 corridor from four to six lanes from south of the I- 75/Turnpike interchange to the I-75/SR 44 interchange. Two improvement alternatives were evaluated for the future conditions, and the preferred alternate is shown below. Coordination is ongoing with FHWA and District 5 for the necessary environmental re- evaluation and further design development. An Interchange Operational Analysis Report was approved by FHWA in 2007. Delivery and Schedule FTE will deliver the project as a Design-Build project, saving both time and money. A design consultant has been hired to develop the Design Criteria and Design-Build contract documents that will be utilized by contractor to construct the interchange. It is currently planned to begin construction in early 2015 and to complete the $78 million project in 2018. Project Overview
