Afoot & Afi eld Inland empireA Comprehensive Hiking GuideDAvID AnD JennIFeR MoneY hARRISThe Inland Empire—the area east of Los Angeles and located primar-ily in San Bernardino and Riverside counties—is known as Southern California’s big backyard. And with its mountain, foothill, valley, and desert recreational opportunities, it’s a hiker’s paradise. Afoot & Afi eld Inland Empire describes nearly 200 noteworthy hikes ranging from easy to very strenuous in this fi rst comprehensive hiking guide to the length and breadth of Inland Empire. These hikes explore Southern California’s three tallest mountains, the stark beauty of the high desert, including Joshua Tree National Park and Mojave National Preserve, as well as trails that wind through urban and regional parks. Each hike is shown on custom-created maps that also include GPS waypoints: the maps alone are worth the price of the book.

✦ Downloadable tracks and waypoints that lead to trailheads, destinations, and critical points along the hike are included for use with a GPS.

✦ The authors have written several other books including coau-thoring the classic San Bernardino Mountain Trails.

✦ With a population of over 4 million, this area is the fastest growing in California and is the 14th largest metro region in the U.S.

The Lone Star hiking TrailThe Offi cial Guide to the Longest Wilderness Footpath in TexasKARen SoMeRSOne of the hidden jewels of Texas, the Lone Star Hiking Trail is the only long-distance National Recreation Trail in the state. At 128 miles (including loop trails), it is also the state’s longest continu-ously marked and maintained footpath. The trail meanders through fl at and gently rolling forests of pine, oak, and mixed hardwood, and cypress swamps and bayous in the famed Big Thicket area in east Texas, in the Sam Houston National Forest. The seemingly end-less variation of forests, much of it designated wilderness, provides a paradise for tree-lovers and bird watchers year-round. The trail is well-suited for both short and long hikes (of up to 10 days), appeal-ing to dayhikers, overnight backpackers, long-distance hikers, and others seeking a peaceful outing.

✦ The first guidebook to this trail; officially endorsed and pro-moted by the Lone Star Hiking Trail Club.

✦ Includes detailed topographic maps and GPS waypoints.

✦ The LSHT lies between the major metro centers of Houston-Galveston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio—home to more than 8 million people just a 2-hour drive from the trail.

✦ The author, a Texas native, is an experienced long-distance hiker who has thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and many other nationally recognized long-distance trails throughout the U.S.

Author Chris Summit personally climbed nearly all of the problems in the book in order to get the most first-hand, insider beta possible.

Tuolumne boulderingChRIS SuMMITTuolumne Bouldering is the first guidebook to one of the most scenic summer bouldering areas in the country. More than 20 areas and 200 problems are included, ranging from VB to V12. All the old clas-sics such as The Knobs and Gunks are included, along with many cutting edge new problems. As is standard with a SuperTopo guide, most of these problems were personally climbed by the author.

Zion ClimbingbRYAn bIRDZion Climbing includes more than 250 free climbing routes and 25 hammerless big wall climbs. All the popular aid and free climbs are covered, along with more than 100 previously unpublished routes. Author Bryan Bird has personally climbed nearly all of the routes in the book in order to bring a level of detail and accuracy never seen before in a Zion guide.
