Fifth WOW! Stamp Drawing Held

WMS held its fifth WOW! Stamp drawing of the year on

Friday, September 25, 2015. Tickets were sold during first

block classes at a price of ten WOW! Stamps per ticket.

The fifth week's lucky winners were Nia Carr and Sam

Kobylarz.

WOW! Stamps are incentives for good behavior that are

issued by teachers and staff members to students. The

stamps are placed in the student's agenda and may be

spent on drawing tickets and other prizes throughout the

year.

Congratulations Nia and Sam!

Pro Team Participates in Flash Mob and Be a Fan

September 25, 2015, during lunch, Pro Team students decided to show off their dance moves in a fantastic flash mob. Pro Team members lined up out in the hallway outside the cafeteria, then ran in, immediately starting up with a step routine and chanting "Stomp out Bullying!" Then dancers proceeded to dance to the song Loser Like Me, originally performed on the show Glee, while other students held signs with bullying statistics. The audience was both thrilled and impressed with their performance.

Every Friday, Mrs. Summer

Altman's class and Pro Team join

forces for the Be A Fan activity.

During this time, students practice

for the Special Olympics by

running, throwing, jumping, and

doing various other exercises.

Students are encouraged to

interact with each other to better

their social skills and to possibly

make a new friend.

Colonial Café

On September 23, 2015, Mr. Richard Gehrman's social studies classes participated

in the first major class activity of the year called the Colonial Café. Mr. Gehrman

played the owner of a tavern in the original Thirteen Colonies, and even sold the

act with an impressive English accent and a colonial wig. Students were required

to speak in accents and talk to the tavern owner about the latest gossip in the

colonies such as information about the king and talk about recent pirate

sightings. Mr. Gehrman handed out "entrees" like fried chicken and soup that

were actually facts about each colony. At the end of the experience, students

were given a dessert of pumpkin bread. It was a fantastic learning experience!

Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg

For Macallan and Levi, it was friends at first sight. Everyone says guys and girls

can’t be just friends, but these two are. They hang out after school, share tons of

inside jokes, their families are super close, and Levi even starts dating one of

Macallan’s friends. They are platonic and happy that way. Eventually they realize

they’re best friends — which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t keep getting in each

other’s way. Guys won’t ask Macallan out because they think she’s with Levi, and

Levi spends too much time joking around with Macallan, and maybe not enough

time with his date. They can’t help but wonder . . . are they more than friends or are

they better off without making it even more complicated? From romantic comedy

superstar Elizabeth Eulberg comes a fresh, fun examination of a question for the

ages: Can guys and girls ever really be just friends? Or are they always one fight

away from not speaking again — and one kiss away from true love?

The Boy On The Wooden Box by Leon Leyson

The darkest of times can unleash the worst in human nature-and also the best.

Leon Leyson lived through those times. Forced from home to ghetto to

concentration camps, separated from his family for months, he experienced

things that no child should ever experience. But there was one thing that could

never be torn away: his will to survive. And one man- one Nazi- showed him that

can come in most unexpected way. Hat man was Oskar Schindler; his famous

“list” would mean life for Leon and for more than a thousand other Jews caught

in the Nazis’ net.

The Boy on the Wooden Box is a tour de force- a legacy of hope and a call for all

of us to remember those who didn’t get a chance for a tomorrow

Cross Country's Crazy Course Adventure

Ends with Middle School Division Wins for Two

Warriors

Tuesday, September 22, 2015 proved a more than satisfactory day for the

Waccamaw runners. The Carolina Forest track was quite a challenge for the

runners and many were running as if on a wild goose chase because the track was

poorly marked with many unexpected twists and turns. To all the runners

advantage, it was cool outside thanks to mother nature.

Three teams participated in the meet—the St. James Sharks, the Carolina Forest

Panthers, and the Waccamaw Warriors. All runners gave the race their best and

were all successful. Congratulations to all the Warriors, who achieved their goal

and won the race!

A shout out to Rion Keesee and Sam Kelley, for winning in the middle school

division! Tuesdays race was a day full of triumph!

16

Waccamaw B-Team Beats Carvers BayCongratulations to the Waccamaw B-Team football for their win against Carvers Bay. One

of the hardest competitors yet, the Wildcats won 14-6. However, the team had yet

another injury, this one much smaller than the last.

During our interview with Coach Tyler Vick, we were told that the win was largely

dependent on their defense.

During the interviews with the Waccamaw players, we were told that one of their biggest

concerns throughout the game was the size, speed, and strength of Carvers Bay. Next

week they will be playing Rosemary. Lets go Wildcats!

B-Team Twirlers Perform at Half Time Home Game

The first game was very exciting for Peyton Buzzell, Hope Hansmeyer, and Kelsey White.

Peyton said, "I was excited to show what we can do for the first time this year."

The twirlers performed to Fight Song. Finally, to top off this exciting night, the Wildcats won the game!
