Thank you to all our parents who took the survey these past few weeks. We had a total of 290 respondents. We will examine the survey in

detail with our school governance council in August – but for now, below are the percentage of parents who strongly agreed or agreed with the

Congratulations to Maia Stephens who received

the prestigious Youth Citizenship Medal from the

Daughters of the American Revolution. This medal is

presented to just one student per school who exempli-

fies the qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership,

and patriotism.

Congratulations to all 2-Mile Club Recipients!

These students ran 8 laps or more each fitness run day in P.E. to receive this honor. We are proud of their hard work and efforts! The P.E. department encourages all of the Northwestern Community to get up and stay active through-out the summer!

Congratulations to Joe Pick and Audrey Saunders for joining the school challenge NMS team

in the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure 5k in Buckhead on Saturday May 9. With their participation they helped raise

$987,166.25!

Grade Southern Star Band!!

They made straight Gold ratings at the

Southern Star Music Festival yesterday.

Out of all of the middle school bands that

competed, our Band had the highest

scores (in middle school band divi-

sion)...winning the Sweepstakes Award!! I

am so VERY proud of our Star Band!

Junior Beta Spring Induction Ceremony

Invitations for the 2014-15 Junior Beta Induction Ceremony of new members were issued on Wednesday, May 13th through PRIDE classes. The ceremony will take

place on Tuesday, May 19th at 6:30pm in the school cafeteria. All members are encouraged to attend this special end of year event, where new members will be inducted and this year’s award distributed. If your child is a current member who did not receive their invitation, please email Mrs. Daniel at [email protected]. More than likely they failed to turn in their spring service tally sheet.

2015 6th Grade Summer Boot Camp

The first year of middle school is an exciting

time for students. At Northwestern Middle

School, the administration and counseling staff

have designed a one-day 6th Grade Boot Camp

to help students make a successful transition

from elementary school. The Boot Camp will be

held on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 8:30AM to

The season is upon us and we will be picking fruit and vegetables from our garden. We hope to have a small window on Saturdays for pick-ups. We will see how things go. This is a trial for us.

Look What's New: Residency Verification

In February 2015, the district revised its School Admis-

sion Policy (JBC) for Residence Verification. The poli-

cy no longer requires families to complete an Affidavit

of Residence for every year of student enrollment, but

instead provide two proofs of residence (from the dis-

trict’s approved lists below *) upon initial enrollment into

Fulton County Schools or upon entry into Kindergarten,

grade, 9th grade, and when there is any

address change.

Online Summer Course

Offerings for Rising 9th Graders

This letter serves as an overview of the summer

online academic courses available to rising 9th grade

students. Students may register to take online

courses via Fulton Virtual School or Georgia Virtual

School. The links to the page for both virtual schools

are listed below. When completing the registration,

please list Northwestern Middle School as the cur-

rent school attended. The duration of the classes is

5 or 8 weeks in length depending on the virtual

school a student selects. There is technical infor-

mation provided on the GAVS site as well as a sam-

ple course demonstration. The technical require-

ments and course delivery format are very similar

for Fulton Virtual as well. Registration for both virtual

schools will opens in early March.

Online summer course work provides students an

opportunity to create room in their schedules to take

additional electives during the traditional school

year. It is recommended that a student not enroll in

more than two semester long courses. The average

coursework for a class can range from 1 – 2 hours

per day. The decision to enroll in a course should be

thoughtful. There is little to no flexibility for late or

missed assignments. Please be advised, that par-

ticipation in summer online courses is not required.

Once a student completes the online summer cours-

es, a roster will be submitted to Cambridge and Mil-

ton High Schools. At that time, additional electives

will be entered for the student provided space is

available.

Cambridge Mini Cheer Camp July, 13-17

We are super excited to announce the dates to

Cambridge High School's Annual Mini Cheer

Camp! Save the date from Monday, July 13th

through Friday, July 17th, from 9:00am-

12:00pm. Bring your campers to learn how to

cheer, dance, jump and supervised stunting &

tumbling. Open to campers 4-14. We will send

out registration information soon!

The Cambridge coaching staff and team will sponsor a summer skills camp for elementary and middle school players of all experience. Courts will be divided by age and skill level to create a motivating and challenging environment for all. Camp will cover fundamentals of passing, setting, hitting and serving in a fun, game-like environment. Campers should bring water and a healthy snack to camp each day.

Public Review of Algebra I and Geometry Resources

Fulton County Schools is seeking public feedback on instructional resources for Algebra I and Ge-

ometry. The resources being considered are currently on display in our area high schools’ Media

Centers on work days from May 6 – June 5 between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm. Anyone who

wishes to review the materials should first check in at the front office of the high school before going

to the Media Center. Feedback will be gathered through an electronic survey. You may take the

survey onsite using either your personal smart phone or a computer designated for this purpose in

the Media Center.

The resources will also be on display from May 6-June 5 between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm

at Fulton County Schools’ North Learning Center (450 Northridge Parkway, Sandy Springs, 30350).
