• 4,400 species of vertebrates• 500 species animal species• 210 species amphibians• 1189 species of birds• 320 species of reptiles

Panda Bear

• The most endangered animal left on earth• Live in high altitudes in Burma and Beijing • It mainly eats bamboo stems• Spends 50%-75% of the day eating• 4-6 feet long and weighs 350 lbs.

Golden Haired Monkey

• Males average 26.8 in. long • Females 20.4 in. long• Spends 97% of time in trees• Also called the snub nosed monkey• Can live up to 25 years• endangered

Brown Eared Pheasant

• Lives in Northeastern China• 39 in long• Eats roots, bulbs, and plant matter• Population ranges from 5000-17000• endangered

South China Tiger

• Rarest tiger in existence today• In the top ten most endangered animals• 330 lbs males• 240 lbs females• 8ft in length• Numbers dwindled from thousands to tens in a few

decades

Chinese Alligator

• 5-6 feet long• Its habitat consist of marshes, ponds, rivers and

streams• Eats snails, frogs, and slow swimming fish• Nocturnal• Hibernates in the colder months

Taimen Fish

• This fish is a cannibal• Related to Trout and Salmon• Grows up to six feet long

• Weighs up to 200 lbs• Stays in fast moving water• Can live up to 50 years• Endangered

Ginseng

• Medical plant• Increases sense of well being and physical and

mental performance• The root has the medical properties• Root is dried and used to make tablets or capsules• Benefits the immune system

River Problems

• The Yellow River is home to 150 species of fish• Recently more that 1/3 of the fish have disappeared• 40% of the usually catch of fish are missing• The river is polluted from factory waste and hydro-

plants• The water is considered undrinkable

Major Problem

• China’s cities are expanding• This causes deforestation • The new cities are taking over the wildlife’s homes

causing extinction• This is why so many of China’s animals are

endangered
