Examples – from their information
Awenda Provincial Park
For the long distance hiker, there’s Bluff Trail, a 13-kilometre circular route, which is accessible from many locations within the park.
The park is a mixed deciduous forest – with sugar maples that are reportedly up to 260 years old.
Directions: From Penetanguishene take Robert Street West. Turn right onto Lafontaine Road East/Simcoe County Road 26 and turn right on Concession Road 16 East, turn left onto Awenda Park Road and follow it into park.
Park: There is parking available in the park.
TAY
Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
Enjoy nature and wildlife along the 25 kilometres of trails in Wye Marsh. Along a winding boardwalk, visitors can spot nesting birds on what staff call ‘Bachelor Island.’ In 2014, the Canadian Wildlife Federation recently named Wye Marsh one of the country’s top 18 hikes.
Directions: From Midland take Highway 12 to 16160 Highway 12 East, look for signs for Wye Marsh. Park: There is parking at the Wye Marsh.
SUNDAY – ON WAY HOME
ORO-MEDONTE - Oro-Medonte Rail Trail
This 28-km trail is great for walking, jogging or biking. It travels from Barrie following an abandoned CN Rail line and runs parallel to the shoreline.
Directions: The trail runs northeast from Barrie to Orillia parallel to the Lake Simcoe shoreline. Exit any south line along Highway 11 and drive until you see the trail. To access from Shanty Bay Road take Line 1. Turn right and follow to parking lot.
Park: You can park beside the trail entrance along Oro-Medonte’s lines.

INNISFIL - Thornton-Cookstown Trans Canada Trail
This abandoned CN rail line runs for nine kilometres between Thornton and Cookstown. The gravel and sand surface is hard enough to allow mountain biking. The six trestle bridges have been decked and railed for safety and offer stunning views of the Cookstown Creek as it meanders its way through the scenery.
Directions: You can start in Cookstown at Innisfil’s 5th Sideroad at Innisfil Beach Road near Georgian Downs, or just north of Thornton at the trail entrance on Robert Street near William Street.
Park: There is a parking lot at the Cookstown entrance.
More info: Trans Canada Trail
BARRIE
Ardagh Bluffs
This natural area is located right in Barrie, but you’ll feel worlds away from the hustle and bustle. There are over 17 kilometres of trails on 518 acres.
Directions: Take Essa Road to Mapleton Avenue.
Park: Leave your vehicle at Holly Community Centre on Mapleton Avenue and the access trail across the street.
