Good Evening…

Welcome to the sixth Wilbur Wright High School, Don Meineke Memorial, Athletic Hall of Fame Awards Dinner. Tonight we will honor 19 multiple-sport individuals, five championship volleyball teams, one championship wrestling team, two multisport, long-time championship coaches, and one Distinguished-Service Award recipient. Our mission, as always, has been to recognize not just good performers, but excellent performers. Our total number of individual honorees now stands at 84. Every mission, however, in order to maintain focus and vibrancy, should have a goal or an end game. Our end game became much clearer this past year when the City of Dayton offered to help us display our multiple-honoree plaques (three 15”x22" and three I0"x13") at the Lohrey Recreation Center on Glenarm Avenue, directly behind Immaculate Conception Church. Lohrey carries a lot of traffic of all ages, and is much more accessible than Wright Brothers School or the Milton Athletic Club. Target date for completion, even if we decide to have one or two more awards dinners, is October, 2019. If you feel that there is a Hall of Fame caliber athlete whom we have overlooked, please mail your recommendation (preferably a complete resume, including post Wilbur Wright athletics) to Dave Swartz, 201 Big Pine Rd., Dayton, OH 45431-1840, or to one of our other committee members. Thanks for being here tonight. Have a great time. Feel free to hang around when the event is over; the club closes at 1:00 am. The Wilbur Wright HS Athletic Hall of Fame Committee: Tom Hatton, Joe Hensler, Kenny Mann, Clyde Slaton, Dave Swartz

Distinguished Service and Achievement Hall of Fame

Dave Swartz 1956

He became Chairman of the Wilbur Wright HS Hall of Fame Committee when Hall of Fame creator and original chairman Don "Monk" Meineke died in September of 2013. Has done ten years of extensive research of newspaper microfilm, old WW newspapers and yearbooks, and personal interviews, and has been MC for all awards dinners to date. Helped work on picture repair and identification of athletes in the original WW

alumni room, and helped repair broken seats in the auditorium which was left standing when the rest of the school was demolished. Dave served 16 years on the Dayton Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame Committee. During that period, he did extensive work on the plaques and pictures of DABC championship teams now on display at Action Sports Complex.

Acknowledgement The logistics in making an event like this successful requires the support of more than a few people. The Committee would like to extend a thank you to the following individuals for going that extra yard in making tonight a memory maker.
