One of the most recent fads in modern technology is the much talked about “hoverboard.” This gadget gained its popularity from its sleek design, unique technology, and wide-spread documentation on social media. However, at the height of its popularity, reports began to surface about the hoverboard catching on fire. Despite the ominous reports, the hoverboard was one of the most popular presents during the Christ-mas season. Unfortunately, more and more reports of home fires came to light, threatening the bright future of this new device. The Hoverboard rose to popular-ity in late 2015. Although it doesn’t actual hover, as its name suggests, it presents a fun way to get around by combining a skateboard-like effect with a motor that eliminates the work. As soon as the original hoverboard gained popularity, other companies began to produce the device, which was also when the reports of the hov-erboard catching fire arose. At first, the defect seemed isolated to a few hoverboards only from some of the

knock-off companies. It seemed as if only the cheaper ones were catching on fire. However, as more people pur-chased the boards, more and more stories surfaced. As time went on, the stories became increasingly bad. Wsbtv.com reported that one of the devices caught on fire while it was charging, which subsequently burned down families home. According to daily-mail.co.uk, one hoverboard even caught fire while the user was riding it. People soon became wary of the popular toy, and some places even banned the hoverboards due to the fire hazard. Amazon offered a refund to customers whose hoverboards caught on fire. A new feeling of ap-prehension and fear soon replaced the excitement that surrounded the new device. As the reports surfaced, peo-ple wanted answers as to why the hoverboards were catching fire. Npr.org investigated why the boards were combusting. According to Jay Whitacre, a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Carn-egie Mellon University, the fires in

the hoverboards are caused by the lithium-ion batteries. He says that every lithium-ion battery has an electrolyte that can be flammable. The same type of battery is found in laptops and in phones, but in the hoverboards, the battery is much stronger. The fires are started when the hoverboard has a battery that is low quality. When the board is of high quality, it is less likely to have a defective battery, and less likely to catch on fire. Overall, while the hoverboard is a fun and innovative new invention, you have to be cautious when purchasing one. You should make sure that you are buying it from a reputable com-pany and that there are no defects when you receive the board. The most important thing to re-member is to confirm that the battery in the device is high quality. As a precaution, don’t charge the battery for too long, and don’t charge the battery indoors. As long as the user is responsible and uses it wisely, there is no reason why the hoverboards cannot be a permanent part of the future.

From fashion statements to music selection, old things are coming back into style. This started with clothing styles like leggings and high-waist-ed shorts and many other 80’s and 90’s trends that came back during the late 2000’s. This past year, pop-ular old-fashioned Christmas gifts included record players and Polaroid cameras. Why are things our parents grew up with so trendy and relevant to us now? Freshman Sarah Lininger said, “I wanted a record player for Christmas because I just like vintage things and instead of wasting time on phones

and computers, it’s nice to see how our parents listened to music when they were younger.” Record play-ers provide better quality music for listening and now stores like Barnes & Noble are following the trend by selling records. There are so many different ways to listen to music and the many options and the ways they sound, whether it’s an iPod or a cassette tape. Something else will become more popular than record players before you know it. “Everyone wants to be different and when all the trends have been used up we al-ways end up circling back to what is called ‘vintage’” said Junior Makenna Johnston. Junior Kelly King said that the pop-

Senior Ally Dabar, along with the rest of Student Council would like to let the school know how much time and dedication is put into every event that is the organization plans. She said, “I think it’s important for people to know how much thought and planning it takes for every event or process we involve ourselves in. We are always asking those around us for their opinions and for what they would like to see happen in the school. We take what we would like to see happen and put new ideas into planning something or promoting it every day of that process.” Dabar said, “I’d love to see more acceptance and closeness with our school and how they see organiza-tions like Student Council. We are literally the voice of the student body, so I’d love for everyone to let us know what they need in their envi-ronment, and what they’d like to see happen.” Before school starts, Student

Council, also known as Stu-Co, holds a Prep Week to begin plan-ning events taking place in the first couple weeks, such as New Student Orientation and Field Day. These events take all week to plan and all members are required to be there to give their input and ideas. Next, Stu-Co begins to plan Back to School Night, eighth grade visits and Homecoming court. This year for eighth Grade Visits, instead of only having the students take a tour and sit in some classes, they also got to experience a small field day. The students played Ships and Sailors, Circle the Wagon and Tug-O-War. This again required material to be brought in, such as balls, rope, and snacks and more time out of classes for the members of the council. For Back to School Night, Stu-Co, are required to attend and help guide parents around the school. Student Council also is in charge of making sure Homecoming court elections take place and plans are ready for the Homecoming game.

During second semester, Stu-Co is in charge of big events such as the Winter Dance, Prom and Blood Drive. This year the Winter Dance is TWIRP and Student Council has planned to have a miniature Spirit Week the week before the dance: themes for each day, planning for the dance and its expenses are discussed. Stu-Co also plans Prom, starting with the theme and including location of the dance. The Blood Drive is again a big event that Student Council plans and is a big part of the whole event, with volunteering in it all day. Last year, Seniors Hannah Boone and Gina Koesters met with Sister Anne and Mr. Repass and got the Jeans Day rule changed from jeans and a Bishop collared shirt to jeans and any shirt. Without fundraising for Student Council, none of the events that are planned would be possible because there would be no way to fund them. Student Council wants to make it clear what they do and the reasoning behind it all.

What does Stu-Co really do?

ularity of vintage items is because “our generation appreciates the vin-tage stuff more because it is so easy now to use electronics and find what we need so we are fascinated with the simpler days.” Polaroids are an-other item that have made an impres-sion on our generation as interesting and fun to use. Taking Polaroids is a fun way to capture memories non-electronically and since they print out automatically, which makes it easier to display them around your room. Junior Emma Fritts said “I am happy Polaroids are coming back because they are a great way to cap-ture your very favorite moments with friends and family.” Along with many other people, she got a Polaroid for Christmas last year.

Recently Bishop McGuinness got Wi-Fi in the library. Students were wondering why Wi-Fi didn’t reach the whole school. A lot of students use Wi-Fi to do research and teach-ers let students use their laptops or phones to do that during class. However, Wi-Fi does not reach most classrooms. The Villain Nation asked a few students their opinion on getting Wi-Fi to reach the whole school. Freshman Julia Hagler said, “I think Wi-Fi should reach the whole school because it allows students to access websites to do their school work. Wi-Fi throughout the school would also make it possible to con-nect to the Internet, which helps stu-dents research projects and gather information.” Freshman Hannah O’Shaughnessy said, “It should reach the whole school so that we don’t have to go to certain places to have Internet access, and so that we can use tech-nology more easily throughout the entire school.” Sophomore Noah Saffer said “It would help students use quizlet when teachers give you time to study before tests.”

Freshman Anna Pfister said, “I think Wi-Fi should reach the whole school because Wi-Fi on our phones within the whole school would help further research for certain classes. It would be quicker and more efficient. Since most research is done on the Internet, having access throughout the whole school would help us ac-cess this information quickly.” Junior Molly Bernard said, “I think that having Wi-Fi school wide is a good and bad decision. Some students may use this ability inap-propriately and abuse the privilege. Others might use it accordingly to benefit them in the classroom with the school work that needs to be done.” Clearly, students think Bishop should consider getting Wi-Fi that reaches the whole school. Students will be able to access information quicker and get more work done. If teachers want to give an online quiz, students could stay in their class-room and take it on their phones instead of having to go to the com-puter lab. Also, there are apps on our phones that teachers could use. Students think having Wi-Fi reach the whole school will be very helpful and bene-ficial to them.

It’s second semester. Reluctant-ly getting out of bed and getting dressed mechanically has become part of my daily routine. School has now become something I have to go to instead of something I want to go to, which should not be the case. So I am going to talk about some ways to get out of the funk this time at school brings. First, you should try to start new with new binders and maybe a new planner to start off your year orga-nized instead of cluttered and messy. This will start you on the right track for the rest of the year, and help keep you busy instead of bored. Next, look at your grades from the first semester and see what you can improve on and what grades you can try to make better for the next quarter. You could make small goals for yourself and then reward yourself when you reach those goals. You could splurge on Panera or buy yourself an iTunes gift card. Setting little goals like these with help when you are looking back and in the long run. In addition, try planning ahead

and looking towards the future. See what major and important projects are coming up before the end of the year and plan accordingly. For instance, writing on a calendar at home, or putting it on an app on your phone. I personally use the app My-Planner. It helps me keep organized all throughout the year. You might just be more prepared when it actually comes time to do the project. Doing things like this more and more will ingrain them in your brain and they will become part of your ev-eryday life. This will make you more organized in general. Next, try calming down and not getting too stressed, which is un-healthy. You may be caring about your grades and everything but the stress is not good for your brain and body. Make sure you are healthy, sleeping well, and eating well be-cause you do not want to fall asleep at school. You may miss key informa-tion that you could need. All in all, school always becomes monotonous after a while during this time, but that does not mean it should stay that way. Try using these tips to help you get through the school year lull.

How to Discern a True Role Model Today’s media makes it hard to decipher who can be a proper role model for teenagers. When these celebrities are put on a pedestal, it is understandable why teens would be-lieve this is how they are supposed to act. They are put in all the magazines, TV celebrity reports, and on social media. This makes people wonder what attributes they have that are earning so much attention. This is attention that many normal people wish to have for themselves so this could cause them to act or try to look similar to said celebrity. While some controversial celebri-ties are also model citizens in some aspects, others are just outright bad. There is a defined difference be-tween a role model and someone who just provides entertainment. A role model is someone who displays

an exemplary life that others should look at as inspirational. Anyone who lives life with good intent can be a role model. People argue about celebrities such as Miley Cyrus and others who grew up in the spotlight and are now looking to change their identity. Cyrus, a child star on the show Han-nah Montana, wanted to grow up in the eyes of the public and she did so in the most extreme ways. To many of those who grew up wanting to be like Miley Cyrus, this was a shocking occurrence to see her in anything less than modest clothes or the crude personality displayed on television music awards. Many claim with this new transi-tion she was setting a bad example for the fan base she had previously formed. In my opinion, everyone changes and we all have the right to grow. Miley Cyrus is no longer a

young girl and she is doing what she wants to do which can be which can be seen as respectable in some eyes. It is not our job to tell other people who they should be, but it is important to emphasize those who can be a role model for young girls who need guidance. A role model can be seen as different things to a diverse group of people, but all in all it is most important to emphasize that teens should find their own identity. If you are looking for a positive influence to inspire you, Malala Yousafzai is a quite good choice. She is a brave and outstanding young girl who risked her own life in order to win an education for women in Paki-stan. She put herself into harm’s way by speaking out against the Taliban’s wishes and in result she was shot but this did not stop her from continuing to fight for her rights. Women can learn great things

from those who are not afraid to fight for what they deserve. Instead of focusing attention on those who are only concerned with themselves, we can point our view to those who are trying to make a difference. Maybe with their positive influence we too can contribute to causes that mean something to us. It is not right to condemn oth-ers for being themselves. We must take into consideration that we can decide for ourselves who we want to look at as role models. A role model can be whomev-er you want as long as he/she has attributes you admire. Whether your role model is Malala, Miley Cyrus, or any other person, it is important to remember your own identity in the midst of it. While we can look up to people, it is essential that they are nothing more than someone we find inspiring.

There’s a new place to get a burg-er in town! Will you drive farther to get your Cookout burger, tray, or fa-mous shake, or will you join the many who have decided to give Dairi-O a try? Dairi-O is located on Highway 66 just off of I-40. It is known for its burgers and hot dogs, but it also offers chicken sandwiches, salads and an extensive ice cream menu. It is a large restaurant with delicious fast food. You are able to eat in or drive through. Dairi-O is open seven days a week but their hours are 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM except for Friday and Saturday when they are open until 11:00 PM. Burgers have a grilled taste and more than 40 milkshake flavors which are so thick you need a spoon to eat.

If you are on a budget, then Cook-out is the place to eat. A cookout tray includes two main dishes, a side item, and a drink for less than $5.00. Cookout is open seven days a week from 11:00 AM to 2:00 AM except Friday and Saturday when they are open until 3:30 AM. Most of the students I interviewed said they liked Dairi-O better be-cause they feel the food is delicious and that there are more items on the menu. Seniors Mary Lynne Kan-ir and Earl Bonoan said that they preferred Dairi-O because they had more choices and the food tasted better. Senior Bronwyn Cortez says she goes because of the fries. The location was also a factor in people choosing Dairi-O over Cook-out because it is so close to Bishop and students are able to go after school before basketball games. The bright, friendly atmosphere is invit-

ing to students, who can easily find a table and eat while they study. Senior Gina Koesters said Dairi-O is like a classy Cookout. Senior Mi-chael Sirera preferred Cookout be-cause it is cheap and they have good shakes. Senior Emma Lloyd likes Cookout because its original to her. Sophomore Tony Testa says Cookout is better because their milkshakes are really good. I think it is just a matter of pref-erence, if you want a tasty burger fast late at night then Cookout is the place for you, but if you prefer to sit down and eat with friends after school and do not want to drive far then Dairi-O is the place for you. So the next time you get a burger, which place will you go?

Winterim is a project required for all students in the senior class. While underclassmen take exams in Jan-uary, seniors spend time at two job placements of their choice shadowing supervisors working there. The project began back in October when students wrote research papers on the jobs they selected. The actual shadowing experience took place from January 11-15. Students had the freedom to select the careers of their choices as long as they completed the 30 hours of shadowing required. Many found the project to be a fun and informative experience. Sydney Ziemba said, “Winterim

turned out to be so much fun. While shadowing a NICU nurse, I saw a C-Section. I can definitely see myself becoming a nurse in the future.” Shadowing was a really great experience. Many students decided to shadow in the medical field and really enjoyed it. A lot of students found careers they hope to pursue in the future while others realized the job they always thought they would have is no longer what interests them. The preparation leading up to the actual shadowing experience was very long. From interviews to letters, seniors were bogged down with never ending assignments. The work made the Winterim experience seemed like a bore until the

Winterimactual shadowing experience arrived. Students report they wish the shad-owing experience could have lasted longer. Some believe it would be ben-eficial to an entire week at each job. Although the medical field was a popular place to shadow, some seniors branched off into less obvious careers. Jenna Basel said, “I worked at St. Pius during Winterim. I really en-joyed teaching children math because it is my favorite subject. I also got to work with kindergartners. It was an amazing experience because I felt like I was making a difference when I helped them with their work. “ Basel also said, “If I could change anything about Winterim for future students, I would say there should be less paperwork. A lot of the steps in

Morgan Augereditoral editor the process seemed overly repetitive.” Similarly, I found the Winterim project to be very helpful and infor-mative. It was a good use of time and I learned a lot from the experience. Many students have great stories to share. The project helps students better understand the working world and build connections that will help them later in life. Many students look toward summer jobs at the places they spent their Winterim. Several students have said they hope to work at the place they shad-ow in the summertime. Winterim is a great experience and students have the opportunity to learn a lot from it. It is a program that makes Bishop McGuinness unique amung high schools in this area.

During your high school years, it is crucial to pay attention to not only your grades but the tests that are required for some colleges. The main ones are the SAT and ACT. These can often be an intimidat-ing prospect, especially considering the test scores you need for different schools. A good score often depends more on what the school you want is expecting. It is less on what the generic idea of what a good score is. This is important to keep in mind. First, before sitting down to these tests it would be smart to research what your top schools ask for in test scores. Nothing is out of your reach if you do the right preparation and try your hardest. Study books can be a helpful guide to studying. Kaplan or McGraw-Hill offer quality study tools as well as the official

guides to the SAT and ACT. Looking over these books will help to prepare and easily recognize the types of problems you will be facing on the actual test. Students also should utilize online

tips that tell about how to go about tak-ing the test. You can find these tips on the ACT and SAT websites. In addition, it is highly advised to use up the entire time provided for each section, even if you finished far before the time limit. Taking the test quickly leaves room for more mistakes and this

can be easily fixed by reviewing the sec-tion. Utilize your time and get the best results. When you enter into a test with a confidence in the general idea of the questions it can help your performance.

If you are someone who has difficulty finish-ing each section on time, learn

to pace yourself. Bringing a watch to the test will help you decide how much time you want to spend on each part of the section. Lastly ,it is important to remember that test -taking is not always a natural skill; it takes practice and mistakes to make improvements. It is not shameful

Oh, what a delight it is to go to work after a seven-hour school day, said no one ever. It is tiresome enough to go through hours of schoolwork, only to end the day with more work. But when teen-agers and money are combined, smiles and happiness is abound-ing. Whether this money is for

buying the newest pair of kicks or contributing to college tuition, students will dedicate their time to reach that goal. Here at Bishop McGuinness, many students hustle out of class to hit up their jobs. We got the chance to see where and why they work. Here are some selfies of Bishop students on the job.

How to be SATisfied with Your Scoresto retake either of the tests; you are al-lowed to take it as many times as you want and this can only benefit you. Attack your weaknesses and defeat them before you convince yourself that they defeat you. Put your health into consideration before you take these tests. Taking the entire night to study and wearing your-self out the night before will only make it more difficult for you to pick the best choices on the test. Go to sleep early and eat a large breakfast beforehand. Even if you don’t know the answers, when you are fully rested and properly functioning , you are more likelly to pick the right answer. Remember to never put your health on the back burner when it comes to these tests. Now that you have these tips, these tests can seem so much less menacing. Go into the test with confidence and you will come out with a new and improved score.

People always tend to get sick during the winter. There are many ways to staying healthy in the winter, such as eating healthy foods, stay-ing warm, and getting lots of sleep. Eating healthy foods such as vege-

tables and fruit every day can prevent people from getting sick. Vitamin C and Vitamin D are very good for you.

According to eating well.com, Vitamin C keeps the body healthy and can also lower a person’s risk of getting cancer. Medicalnewsto-day.com explains why Vitamin D is important: it maintains the health of bones and teeth, the immune system, brain and nervous system. Vitamins found in healthy foods are a good way of keeping the body healthy and strong. For a lot of people, getting ex-

ercise during the winter may be difficult. It may be too cold to go for a run or if it’s snowing, it may be hazardous to drive to a gym. Howev-er, exercising at home can be a great alternative. Create your own workout and try exercising every other day. The workout can be brief, even for 5 to 20 minutes. Next, make sure to always wash your hands before eating or after doing something that involves using your hands. Germs are always on your hands, on everything around you, and on anything you touch. Finally, flu shots are also very im-portant because they prevent people from getting sick. According to the website, healthline.com, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), researches the flu effect, which strikes five and 20 per-cent of the US population each year.

Staying Healthy Fitness Trends of 2016 Now that 2016 is here, many are making their new years’ resolutions to better themselves. The most common resolution is to lose weight and live a happier, healthier lifestyle. Well, with creative nutritionists and food connoisseurs, the old drab ways of eating and being healthy is being reinvented. From new workout classes such as Barre to crazy diets such as the taco cleanse, creating a healthy lifestyle is now tailored to all types of people. With new devices such as the “Fitbit” and apps that track every step you take, it is easy to stick to your resolutions. With apps such as Sworkit and FitStar Personal Trainer, as long as your phone is with you, you can get a complete workout any-where anytime. Crossfit and Zumba have also be-come more popular workouts. They both offer high quality workouts that cater to adrenaline junkies because of the intensive interval training. As seen on social media and news head-lines, ballet is striking the interest of many. ...even some of your favorite NFL football players such as Fozzy Whitaker from the Cleveland Browns and Miles Austin from the Philadel-phia Eagles. The new trend, Barre, is an intense ballet type workout that involves pilates, cardio and yoga.

This fun class offers a unique ap-proach to working out and increases flexibility and boosts health, which is why this craze is sweeping the nation to all sorts of people. When it comes to healthy food, it can be difficult with con-stant temptations of sweet and fried foods. However, some of the new eating trends are not only healthy, but also delicious. One thing is the Taco cleanse that consists of eating all your meals in taco form. The Taco cleanse was created by a group of food scientists in Austin, Texas that requires you to eat everything in tortilla form. Whether handcrafting a banana and peanut butter taco for breakfast or a chicken and avoca-do taco for lunch, this new fad has become a hit amongst taco lovers and anyone who is willing to try new things. Another new popular trend is Matcha. Originating in Japan, matcha appeals to green tea lovers, though not actually tea, it is a green tea pow-der that is known as “detox powder.” Many are falling in love with this product because of the many health benefits it enables. Also, matcha is tasteless so it can be added to almost any food for protein boost and appe-tite filler. As a new year comes, working out is being taken to a new level. Being fit is the new trend and with new workouts and health crazes, new healthy lifestyle is easy and fun.

Many people argue over the Fitbit and Apple Watch. Some say the Fitbit is better, and others prefer the Apple Watch. Both the Fitbit and the Apple Watch track your movement and help you reach your fitness goals. So which one is truly better? The Fitbit measures each step you’ve taken, the distance you’ve travelled, and the calories you’ve burned. It also shows you how many minutes you were active that day. In addition, the Fitbit counts the distance you’ve climbed, like on a hill or stairs. Even though the Fitbit doesn’t run multiple apps like the Apple Watch, it is an activity tracker,-mainly focused on your fitness goals. The Apple Watch offers two main apps: the Workout App and Activ-ity. The Workout App tracks your walking, running, and cycling. The Activity app is all about your health, daily routine, and movement. You can access the data using your iPhone’s

F i t b i t v s . A p p l eHealth app. There are three rings on the Apple Watch, each one a differ-ent color, to show your health goals and daily movement. The Stand ring shows how often you’ve stood up, the Exercise ring shows how many minutes you’ve been active, and the Move ring shows how many calories have been burned. And as motiva-tion, the aim is to completely finish all three rings every day. Fitbit finds the number of calories burned by using your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate). The BMR is calculat-ed using your gender, weight, age, and height. Fitbit calorie tracking also begins at midnight and includes the calories you burn just by sleep-ing, The Apple Watch doesn’t count resting calories (calories you burn by sitting) and it’s more interested in calories you burn while you’re active. Also, the Apple Watch better learns your habits, activity levels, and aver-age heart rate ranges the more you

wear it so the calorie counts become more accurate over time. According to Professor Derk-Jan Dijk of Surrey University, sleep is one of the most important parts of health. Since the Apple Watch has to charge overnight, it can’t monitor your qual-ity of sleep. The Fitbit, however, can moni-tor your quality of sleep using two different modes. The normal mode gives you a basic idea of your sleep patterns, while the sensitive mode gives you a detailed report of your sleep patterns. According to wareable.com, the battery on the Apple Watch drains faster than the Fitbit because of the many apps it has. While the battery doesn’t last as long as the Fitbit’s, the Apple Watch is smart about how it saves battery. When you raise your wrist, the screen comes on, and when you put your arm down the screen goes black.

It takes about two hours for the Fit-bit and Apple Watch to fully charge. All in all, if you’re looking for something more focused on fitness, then the Fitbit is better than the Ap-ple Watch. If you’re not that serious about fitness and want something that has more apps along with the two activity apps, then the Apple Watch is for you. If I had a choice and lots of money, I would opt for the Apple Watch just because there’s more to do on it than just use fitness apps.

The National Football League is back in Los Angeles. The long awaited move to the city has finally become a reality for LA residents. In an owners' meeting in January, the St. Louis Rams' return to Los Angeles was approved by a 30-2 margin. Los Angeles residents were elated; they finally had football back. But the Los Angeles Rams may not be the only LA-based team. The San Diego Char-gers have also expressed significant interest in a move to Los Angeles. The NFL has a rich history in the city of Los Angeles. Los Angeles saw its first team in 1946: the Los Angeles Rams. Beginning in the 1980 season, the Rams began to play in Anaheim, just over 30 miles from their former stadium in Los Angeles. In the 1990s, Rams owner Georgia Frontiere had her eyes set on St. Louis to relocate her team.

The Rams played their final game in LA in 1994. Los Angeles was also home to the LA Raiders, who had re-located from Oakland in 1982. Prior to returning to Oakland, the Raiders also played their last NFL game in LA in 1994. LA also played host to the Los Angeles Chargers of the AFL in 1960. The move from St, Louis to Los Angeles was a very predictable one due to the conditions in St. Louis. The Edward Jones Dome, the former home of the Rams, was simply not up to par. A 2008 Sports Illustrated poll ranked the Edward Jones Dome as the worst NFL venue with regard to affordability, atmosphere and tailgat-ing.

On January 5, 2015, the Los Ange-les Times reported that Stan Kroenke and the Stockbridge Capital Group were partnering up to develop a new NFL stadium on the Inglewood prop-erty owned by Kroenke. To counter this new construction plan, St. Louis unveiled a stadium plan for the downtown area, with the hope of keeping the Rams franchise in the city. On February 24, 2015, the Inglewood City Council approved the Inglewood stadium and construc-

tion began in De-cember 2015 with the inten-tion to be com-pleted by 2019. Un-til the com-pletion

of the City of Champions Stadium, the Rams will play at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. St. Louis Rams season ticket

holders and fans were infuriated. Some St. Louis-based season ticket holders, who were promised tickets through 2025, are suing the Los An-geles Rams. They feel they have the right to continue to be first-in-line for Los Angeles Rams season tickets, or have the right to sell their tickets to Los Angelenos. Two-time NFL Most Valuable Player and MVP of Super Bowl XXX-IV Kurt Warner spent five years with the Rams in St. Louis. Along with the disappointed fans Warner too expressed his discontent with the move, “I definitely don’t associate myself with the L.A. Rams ... it will be something that I’m completely unfamiliar with from the organiza-tion,” said Warner to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM according to Fox Sports. St. Louis may not be the only city to have its NFL team stripped from them. The San Diego Chargers are exploring a move to Tinseltown as well. San Diego Chargers' manage-ment seems to be heavily leaning in favor of a move to Los Angeles. Should they make the move, the Chargers would share a stadium with the Rams. The Chargers have until March 23 to make a decision.

On Monday, January 11, the nation watched as the Alabama Crimson Tide took on the Clemson Tigers in Glendale, Arizona, for a chance at the College Football National Cham-pionship Title. This was only the second year of the college football playoffs. In previous years, two teams would be selected to play in the BCS National Championship Game. Now, four teams play in two games, with the winners advancing to the Nation-al Championship. This year, the Clemson Tigers de-feated the Oklahoma Sooners in the Orange Bowl and the Alabama Crim-son Tide overpowered the Michigan State Spartans in the Cotton Bowl to earn their spots in the National Championship game. Interestingly, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney was rooting against

his alma mater. Swinney attended the University of Alabama and was a walk-on wide receiver in 1989. He was also a part of the 1992 National Champion-ship team. Swinney has been coaching at Clem-son for the past seven years, and has made significant accomplish-ments with Tigers football. The only National Championship win in Clem-son football history was in 1981 with a win over Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. The Tigers have won a total of 37 bowl appearances. On the other hand, the Univer-

sity of Alabama is keeping up with their impressive accomplishments. Head coach Nick Saban has been

in Tuscaloosa for nine seasons. After the team’s National Championship win over the previously undefeated Clemson Tigers, Saban joined Paul Bryant as being the only two coaches with five National Championship wins in the modern era. Alabama claims a

college football-best 16 National Championships. After the game, the Associated Press Poll (AP Poll) named Alabama the top team of the season, giving them their fourth title in seven years. The National Championship game itself was nowhere near a blowout.

Alabama came into the game looking to contain Heisman finalist Deshaun Watson, but had a weapon of their own with Heisman trophy winner Derrick Henry. For most of the game, Alabama and Clemson were neck and neck. However, the Crimson Tide starting pulling away within the last minutes of the fourth quarter. Clem-son never gave up, but Alabama ulti-mately came out with a 45-40 victory over the Tigers. This was a fun year for college football. The fact that an Atlantic Coast Conference team made it to the National Championship was pret-ty incredible, considering we rarely see ACC teams in these games, let alone win them. Next year, the win-ners of the Peach Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl will play in the 2017 College Football National Championship in Tampa, Florida.

The 2015 season was meant to be the Cleveland Browns' breakout year. In February 2015, the franchise unveiled a new, slightly altered logo, which gave Cleveland fans a breath of hope. However, the Browns were back to their losing ways this past season, ty-ing with the Tennessee Titans for the worst record in the National Football League (3-13). General Manager Ray Farmer and head coach Mike Pettine were both fired on January 3 for their failing efforts to turn the franchise around. Despite the underperfor-mance of the team, the Cleveland Browns were often in the spotlight. Heavy media attention was brought on by the antics of second year quar-terback Johnny Manziel. A Heisman Trophy winner in college and first-round draft pick, Manziel had all the makings of a fran-chise quarterback. However, there was one issue. Johnny Manziel was, and still is, a liability off the field. Johnny Football's issues begin well before his NFL stint. In 2012, prior to Manziel playing in his first college game for Texas A&M. He was arrest-

ed for disorderly conduct, failure to identify, and possession of a fictitious driver's license according to reports from ESPN.com. Manziel was for-given for his behavior and given a second chance by his head coach. During the 2013 offseason at Texas A&M, Manziel found himself in more trouble due to questionable social media postings denouncing his college, getting kicked out of a frat party and oversleeping during his stay at the Manning Passing Acade-my according to NFL.com. On February 4, 2015, following his rookie season with the Browns, Man-ziel checked himself into a rehabil-itation center for alcohol addiction. This appeared to send the message to the Browns that Manziel was turn-ing over a new leaf and taking his profession more seriously. However, on May 30, 2015, Manziel threw a water bottle at a heckler at the AT&T Byron Nelson Golf Tourna-ment and although no charges were filed, this was another dark mark on his character off the field. Unfortunately for Manziel and the Browns, this was not the end of the player’s antics. In October of the 2015 NFL season, Manziel was pulled

over after fighting with his girlfriend in his car and admitted to consuming several alcoholic beverages prior to the confrontation. On November 17, 2015, Manziel was promoted to first string quarter-back. Just as things began to look up for Johnny Football, a video of him partying surfaced, causing his head coach to demote Manziel to third string following dishonesty from Manziel surrounding the origins of the video. On January 2, 2016, one day prior to the Browns’ final game, Manziel was spotted in a Las Vegas casino. Although inactive due to a concussion, Manziel was expected to support his team on the day of the game. Following a social media eruption, Manziel posted a picture on Instagram of him and his dog at his home in Ohio that same night. More recently, Manziel was caught up in a domestic abuse accusation in a hotel in Dallas. The police are planning to investigate and possibly press charges against Manziel. The Browns have threatened to release Johnny Manziel at the earliest pos-sible date that the NFL allows roster changes. Even Manziel’s father has expressed concern regarding his

son’s lifestyle. Manziel’s future in the NFL is not bright whatsoever. It is no secret that Johnny Man-ziel is uncontrollable and immature off the field. The Cleveland Browns have to weigh the risks and benefits of keeping a ticking time bomb of a player on their squad. The fact of the matter is that Manziel is not an elite NFL quarterback. According to NFL.com. In his NFL career, Manziel has thrown the same number of intercep-tions as touchdowns (7), and, Man-ziel's numbers this year were lacklus-ter with a 55th ranking passer rating of 79.4 With new head coach Hue Jackson in town, the Browns need to let go of the negative energy that follows Manziel. The Browns were awarded the second overall pick in the NFL Draft. The Browns should look for a quar-terback such as University of Cal-ifornia's Jared Goff to fill the void. Failing that, the Browns still have able bodied, non-elite, quarterbacks such as Josh McCown, Austin Davis and even wide receiver and former QB, Terrelle Pryor. No matter the direc-tion the Browns take, one thing is for certain: Manziel needs to go.
