WIENER NEUSTADT
Introduction to Wiener Neustadt Wiener Neustadt is a city one probably does not associate with a big event like the Spartan Race taking place
there. It is rather unknown – touristic wise as well as when it comes to sports. However, the city has a lot to offer
and should not be underestimated. First of all, one needs to highlight the city’s outstanding location- being
situated in the Steinfleld, the southernmost part of the Vienna Basin, one can easily reach the city from every
direction. Furthermore, being flown through by two small rivers, offering many beautiful parks and bordering the
mountain range Rosaliengebirge, Wiener Neustadt offers the perfect combination of green spots, access to
water and only a short distance to the mountains nearby. What else could a real sportsman´s heart desire!
Event location Theresian Military Academy:
The grounds of the Military Academy are perfect for the high demand of a Spartan Race. It is spacious (over 130
hectare) and therefore offers lots of opportunities for the parkour with diversified obstacles and additional
services and offers for visitors. It is the world’s oldest military academy and already has a long history of Spartan
Races to tell.
Activities for Spartans in and around Wiener Neustadt:
As mentioned in our introduction, Wiener Neustadt is a very diverse destination with an unbeatable offer of numerous activities and natural highlights besides a great infrastructure for the race itself.
Aqua Nova
Visiting the indoor swimming pool Aqua Nova could be an activity we would recommend to the
Spartan Community.
Reasons to go there:
● Perfect mix of training and relaxation: having a big sports pool where swimming
competitions take place on a regular basis, the athlete could train and practice and
reward him/herself with a sports massage and some sauna afterwards.
● Compatible with the family: the Aqua Nova is a place where the athlete could go to
together with his/her family. Having a zone of experience ( waterfall, slide, white-water,
kids area) the athlete could train and enjoy some quality time with his/her family as
well.
● Good value for money: the indoor swimming pool is inexpensive and offers different
rates allowing the athlete to spent for example only some evening hours practicing for
not more than 6 Euros.
Jungle Indoor Playland
The Jungle Indoor Playland is a special indoor playground for kids themed like a jungle offering more than
2000 square meters of pure adventure. The range of activities varies from climbing frames to bouncy castles
guaranteeing an unforgettable time for children.
The idea would be to establish a corporation between the Spartan Race and Jungle Indoor Playland offering a
mini-spartan race for kids at the Playland. As the indoor playground consists of nothing else than little obstacles
it would provide the perfect setting for a kids Spartan Race. It would be great possibility to make the Spartan
Race a family event and would integrate the athletes ‘kids into the Spartan community already from an early
age on.
Hohe Wand
Being only 20 km away from Wiener Neustadt the mountain ridge Hohe Wand will let the heart of the
athletes beat faster. When it comes to sports, adventurous activities or outdoor family quality time there is
no other place to be than the Hohe Wand.
Reasons to go there:
● It is a paradise for sportsmen, nature lovers and families
● Close to Wiener Neustadt
● Perfect for the athletes because:
o Hiking trials: all levels of difficulty are to be found at
the Hohe Wand
o Climbing
o Paragliding: for athletes who want to experience
something extraordinary
o Skywalk: the Skywalk is a terrace built into the cliff and
offers a breathtaking view over the region. For adrenalin
junkies there is a 150 m rope down off the sky walk.
● Perfect for a family trip because:
o Wild Life Reserve: ibexs, elks and lamas can be observed in their natural
surroundings, guided tours with lamas can be booked
o Petting Zoo: visit bunnies, ponies, donkeys and potbellied pigs
o Museum: interesting bits and pieces about region Hohe Wand
Thermal Bath – Linsberg Asia
Being a Spartan Race runner is tough – a hard training and an exhausting run might leave their marks. So
why not reward yourself for a hard competition by spending a relaxing day at the thermal bath Linsberg Asia
which is only 15 minutes away from Wiener Neustadt. Such a thermal bath visit relieves the body and
promotes healing processes of the musculoskeletal system - the very thing an athlete will need after the
Spartan Race.
Türkensturz
The Türkensturz is a castle ruin in Scheiblingkirchen, about 14 minutes
away from Wiener Neustadt. The Türkensturz is the perfect location
for athletes who love hiking and climbing. As it is only 20 kilometres
away from the city the athletes could do the perfect workout by driving
there by bike and then hike up to the top. Such a training in which all
muscles are used would be an ideal preparation for the Spartan Race.
Johannesbach-Ravine
The Johannesbach Ravine is the ideal starting-point for mountain
bike trips. A varied rail network guarantees that pros as well as
beginners can challenges themselves. The ravine is not only
suitable for starting a mountain bike tour but also for just
talking a walk there.
Barbecue at the Leitha-Au
The Leithaau is a riparian forest about 10 minutes away from
Wiener Neustadt and would be the perfect setting for a barbecue
at the bank. To strengthen the Spartan community one could
organize a barbecue party at the campfire, eating steaks and
sausages, drinking beer and celebrating being part of the spartan
community. Such an event would not only be the perfect
closing of the race, but would also create a strong sense of
togetherness.
