Scouting CreightonThe Bluejays are 18-16 overall and 8-1 in the Big East and have won 10-straight games. Wins this season have come against Santa Clara, Utah Valley three times, Kansas, UC Davis twice, Winthrop, St. John’s twice, South Dakota State, Georgetown three times, Ne-braska and Villanova three times. Losses have come against UAB three times, Michigan, Saint Louis, Abilene Christian three times, Air Force twice, Utah Valley, UC Davis, Winthrop twice, Nebraska and St. John’s. As a team, CU is hit-ting .267 with a 3.80 ERA and a .968 fielding percentage. They are led offensively by Michael Emodi who is hitting .277 with nine doubles, six home runs and 31 RBI. The Bluejays are led by head coach Ed Servais.

Series History vs. the BluejaysWichita State leads the overall series with the Bluejays 113-47-1. The Shockers also lead the series in Omaha 43-21.

Last Meeting vs. CUThe last meeting between the two teams was May 10, 2016 in Wichita. The Shockers won the game 7-3. Travis Young went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Josh DeBacker and Mikel Mu-cha each went 2-for-4. Reliever Zach Lewis earned the win. Shutout of the JayhawksWichita State beat in-state rival Kansas 8-0 on Wednesday night in Wichita. It was the first shutout of the Jayhawks by WSU since April 5, 2006 in Wichita. In that game, the Shockers won 4-0.

Home Run for SchwankeSenior designated hitter Willie Schwanke hit his first home run of the season on Saturday at Missouri State. It was his first home run as a Shocker and the second of his career. He had

118 at bats between his two home runs and a little more than four years and two months. He hit his other home run on Feb. 19, 2013 against New Orleans when he was a freshman at Arkansas.

Bohm’s StreakSophomore third baseman Alec Bohm had a hit in all four games last week to push his hitting streak to 12 games, which ties his career-best. During the streak, he is 21-for-50 (.420) with nine runs, three doubles, one triple, four home runs, 16 RBI, five walks and one stolen base.

Back-to-BackWichita State hit back-to-back home runs in the April 15 game at Bradley. It was the first time the Shockers went back-to-back since April 17, 2015 at Bradley when Ryan Tinkham and Sam Hilliard did it. This time around, it was Dayton Dugas and Noah Croft. Croft’s Big DayRedshirt freshman catcher Noah Croft hit the first home run of his career in the second inning at Bradley on Saturday. He finished the game with another home run in the seventh inning, a three-run shot that tied the game. He ended up going 3-for-4 in the game with a career-high five RBI and a double. Bats Stay HotThe Shocker bats continued to stay hot in four games last week. Wichita State hit .313 as a team in the four games and had 14 doubles, two triples and seven home runs. Noah Croft hit .533, while Alec Bohm hit .412, Greyson Jenista .375, Alex Jackson .353 and Trey Vickers and Luke Ritter each hit .313.

Triple PlayIn the ninth inning of the April 2 game against Valparaiso with runners on first and second, the Shockers turned a 5-6-3 triple play to keep the game tied. It was the first triple play turned by the Shockers since April 16, 2002 against Kansas. Walk-Offs for YoungSophomore outfielder Travis Young collected the first walk-off hit of the season for the Shock-ers in the March 31 4-3 win over Valparaiso. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, he singled to left field to drive in Alex Jackson for the game-winning run. He followed that up with another walk-off on April 2 in another 4-3 win. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, he singled to right field to drive in Noah Croft for the game-winning run. They were the first two walk-off hits of his career. Lewis Sets Career-HighSenior pitcher Zach Lewis put together a career performance on March 25 against No. 3 Texas Tech. He tied his career-best with seven in-nings pitched and struck out a career-high 10 in the game.

Season-High K’sThe Shocker pitching staff collected a season-high 16 strikeouts on March 22 against Sacra-mento State. It was the most strikeouts by the WSU pitching staff since March 18, 2009 when the Shockers struck out 16 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Boyer’s Grand SlamSophomore infielder Jordan Boyer hit his first career home run on March 15 against Northern Colorado. The home run was a grand slam, which was the Shockers first of the season.

This Day in Shocker HistoryApril 25On April 25, 1982, the Shockers split a double-header at Creighton. The Shockers won the first game 7-0 and the Bluejays took the second game 5-3. In game one, Stan Brown and Greg LaFever combined on the two-hit shutout. Phil Stephenson went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a home run. Legends Weekend Scheduled for April 28-29The Wichita State baseball program will be hosting Legends Weekend April 28-29 vs. Il-linois State.All Shocker Baseball alumni will be celebrated, honored and recognized at the first Legends Weekend.On Fri., April 28, all alumni that are present will be introduced on the field before the game.On Sat., April 29, there will be a College World Series pennant giveaway to the first 2,000 fans in attendance. Fans will also be able to take their photo for the first time with the 1989 National Championship trophy.There will also be postgame autographs on Saturday with all Shocker legends and alumni in attendance.Memorable Shocker Baseball moments will be highlighted on the video board all weekend long.

Home Winning StreakWichita State won 10-straight home games May 21, 2016-March 15, 2017. It was the longest home winning streak since 2015 when WSU won 10-straight from April 24-May 20.

Win in NormanWichita State collected a 4-2 win at No. 13 Okla-homa on March 7. It was the Shockers first win over a ranked team this season and snapped the Sooners nation-leading 12-game winning streak. It was just the third time in school history that the Shockers defeated Oklahoma in Nor-man. The other two times were 1992 and 2006.

Combined ShutoutWichita State collected its third shutout of the year on March 1 against Omaha. The Shockers used 10 pitchers to combine on the three-hit shutout. The 10 pitchers who combined on the shutout were juniors Chandler Sanburn, Tyler Jones and Adam Keller, sophomores Codi Heuer, Matt Whalen, Connor Lungwitz and Robby Evans and freshmen Keylan Killgore, Tommy Barnhouse and Preston Snavely. K’s for DaysThe Shockers pitching staff collected 15 strike-outs in the 4-0 win over Grand Canyon on Feb. 25. It was the first time the Shockers had 15 or more strikeouts in a game since March 12, 2013 against North Dakota.

Back-to-Back ShutoutsOn Feb. 25, the Shockers had back-to-back shutouts of Grand Canyon by scores of 1-0 and 4-0. It was the first time the Shockers had back-to-back shutouts since 2013 when they beat Southern Illinois (15-0) and Indiana State (5-0) in the MVC Tournament. The 1-0 win in game one against GCU was the first 1-0 win for the Shockers since beating Bradley 1-0 in 10 innings on May 12, 2012. Undefeated StartWichita State started 7-0 this season after three-game sweeps of Utah Valley and Grand Canyon and a win over Omaha. It was the best start by a Shocker team since 2011 when they also started 7-0. SweepsThe Shockers collected back-to-back three-game sweeps over Utah Valley and Grand Canyon. the 5-3 win over Grand Canyon on Feb. 26. He went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs and two home runs. It is the first multi-home run game by a Shocker since Ryan Tinkham hit two against Kansas State on April 14, 2015.

Seven-Straight K’sIn the season opener against Utah Valley on Feb. 17, the Shocker bullpen struck out seven-straight batters. Landon Holifield struck out the first three, Ben Hecht struck out the next three and Reagan Biechler struck out the seventh. It was the first time the Shocker pitching staff struck out six or more consecutive batters since May 14, 2010 when they struck out six-straight against Missouri State.

Father and SonMatt and Bryant Klusener became the fifth father and son duo to play for the Shockers since 1978. The others were Stan and Taylor Brown, Charlie and Chris O’Brien, Greg and Garrett Brummett and Rich and Mitch McIntyre.

Shocks Picked Fourth in the ValleyThe Shockers were tied for fourth in the Valley preseason poll done by the league’s coaches. WSU totaled 36 points and tied with Indiana State. Dallas Baptist received five first-place votes and 59 points to finish first. Southern Illinois was picked second with three first-place votes and 53 points.

Two Named to Preseason All-MVC TeamSophomore designated hitter Alec Bohm and sophomore utility player Luke Ritter were named to the preseason all-Valley team. Bohm earned second team honors in 2016.

Section 42 at Eck StadiumThe Wichita State baseball program will be working with League 42 to open Section 42 at Eck Stadium.The Shockers have worked with League 42 over the past few years including holding clinics for the kids every year and helping with an annual golf tournament that raises money for League 42.Section 42 will be located in the first 10 rows of Section J, which is approximately 200 seats. Members of League 42 will be able to come to the WSU Ticket Office and request a ticket for themselves and four guests for each home game at Eck Stadium.League 42, named in honor of the great Jackie Robinson, is a youth baseball league in Wichita comprised primarily of urban players, ages 5-14 that was started in 2013 and includes more than 500 kids.

Seven Starters ReturnWSU returns seven starters from the 2016 team in junior catcher Gunnar Troutwine, junior shortstop Trey Vickers, sophomore third baseman Alec Bohm, sophomore outfielders Dayton Dugas and Travis Young, sophomore second baseman Luke Ritter and sophomore first baseman Greyson Jenista, who will move to the outfield in 2017.
