Wichita IndiansBy: Rachael Shewmaker
Their cultural region They lived in the Eastern Great plains from
the Red River north to Nebraska.
What did they eat? They farmed corn, squash, and
pumpkins. They planted plum trees, and also hunted buffalo.
Homes
Most of the houses were cone- shaped with grass all around the sides. When they were traveling in the winter they used hides of buffalo to keep warm. There is a pole in the center to hold the hut.
CLOTHINGThe men wore cloths and some time leggings
so they protect their legs. The women wore buffalo hides and jewelry. The women sewed their dresses with elk teeth.
CultureThe Wichita were known to tattoo their faces
and bodies with solid and dotted lines and circles. They called themselves "raccoon-eyed people“ because of the tattoos around their eyes.
