May: Garden GalaTour the Art Garden and search for the mysteries and discover the beauty of spring arrivals. Find the sculptures that hide behind the grasses in the Art Garden. Art Start goes to CAMPImagine, make, talk, sing, and play at our summer preschool camp! WAM brings back Kansas Wolf Trap artists to engage children ages 3 to 5 and their adults for an hour-and-a-half of artmaking and fun. Four different sessions are offered this summer and are

open to families and groups with 3, 4, and 5-year olds. Sign up for one theme, or plan to attend all four! Sessions are $5 per child, and free for parents/chaperones.

Younger siblings are required to be in a front pack or stroller during the time in galleries. Older siblings are encouraged to attend their age appropriate camps—Hot Art for Cool Kids on Wednesday or Thursday.

Sessions are offered on Tuesdays in June and July at 10 to 11:30 am or 1:30 to 3 pm. Advance registration and payment is required. Children can attend one class per session; not multiple classes of the same camp session. Please sign up online at wichitaartmuseum.org/artstart.

HOT ART FOR COOL KIDS!

Summer Camp day sessions at WAM. Only $10 for an awesome art-filled afternoon from 2 to 4 pm.

This summer Hot Art for Cool Kids takes a new Art Lab angle: we will explore themes of STEAM education. Bring your lab coats as we experiment with art, wonder, and creativity!

Each class includes an art studio project to take home, a collaborative artmaking project that typically stays on display in the museum, and a gallery-looking conversation— all led by a team of art educators and camp staff.

This year, both Wednesdays and Thursdays are open for youth 6 to 12. However, each class will be separated into two age appropriate-groups, 6–8 and 9–12.

NEW: Organized groups, such as daycare centers or summer school programs, with 10 or more kids receive discount rate of $6 per child.

July 25: We Heart ArtTo celebrate the special exhibition Art We Love: CityArts Artists’ Selections, we will explore some of our favorites in the museum. Create a special masterpiece that will become your family’s favorite. Activities will take place in the Art Studio and Living Room.

June 27: Art Outdoors, Bubbles ManiaArtVenture takes the fun outdoors! Explore special activities and games in the Art Garden (weather permitting). Try to blow giant bubbles, create a unique art sculpture, play badminton, with more fun in store.

May 23: Go Girl Go!In honor of the special exhibition Before and After 1920: Women Artists from the Wichita Art Museum Collection, join us for special art activities inspired by female artists as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote.

Visit the Living RoomAt WAM, there is a special room for families. The Living Room located on the main level is full of hands-on activities including books, drawing materials, designated special art projects, and more.

Make it Fun To look at and enjoy the art, you don’t have to be an expert. Strike a pose. Get silly!

Slow it DownTake your time with the artwork. Sit down and look for as long as you like. Looking at art slowly can be really powerful.

Change it UpIt is okay to take a break, hang out on a couch, grab a bite to eat in the Muse Cafe, even lie beneath the Chihuly Chandelier.

You Don’t Have to See it AllRemember museums are big, and it’s okay to just explore a few galleries today. Come back for more on your next visit. Every Saturday is free all year long!
