@DerekCStewart: ‘Benefits and Disadvantages of Social Media to Health’.
What came across for to me was that some people found that there was good and bad
aspects to social media. It can overwhelming with the volume of informaKon that you get
but can also allow you to connect and share. I think overall people found the social media
was beneficial to them.

@SimonRStones: ‘NavigaKng the Ethics System for your Research Studies’
The take home point for me was that we need more paKent and public involvement in
the ethics system. Also interesKng to see how ethics is applied to social media research
and the difficulKes faced when not affiliated to a university or healthcare organisaKon

@uoscares & @TracyCallen2 : ‘CTAs (Clinical Trial Assistants) -‐ Improve the Research Recipe’
This is a role that isn’t available in Ireland, so for me this tweetchat was all about learning!
Was interesKng to see how the role and responsibiliKes varies across different areas and
that so far CTAs are not PIs for studies of their own. And we need a day to celebrate CTAs!

@DerekCStewart:‘PaKent Voice in Health Research’
Health literacy came up quite a bit during this tweetchat, how we reach marginalised
voices in research and how we involve paKents and their families in research (quesKons,
designs, protocols etc). Healthcare researchers need to go to the paKent, stop making
paKents come to healthcare researchers!

@ClinEdge & @AskGuideStar & @BTC_Network: ‘PaKent Recruitment for Rare Diseases’
Having paKents and their families as an essenKal part of that interdisciplinary team and
using branding were seen as key points for paKent recruitment. It also encouraged others
to host their own tweetchat on rare diseases!

@sharon_kempson: ‘Increasing Recruitment in Paediatric Research’
This is a topic close to my heart! And lots of topics were discussed including MDT
relaKonships for increasing recruiKng, how to involve children in research, parental
consent and child assent and training for paediatric research staff.

‘Budget NegoKaKons & Financial Management in Clinical Trials’
What I found interesKng about this tweetchat was how much interested it generated from research
staff who are not involved in financial management but from the quesKons asked during the tweetchat
they are now looking at how to become more aware of the structures etc involved in budgets.

@VickyLShepherd: ‘Research Involving Adults Who Lack The Capacity To Consent’
Brilliant tweetchat that discussed how healthcare researchers can address the exclusion of
those who lack capacity to consent and the legal and ethical issues to consider. One of the
biggest learning points for me was who can make decisions, for research parKcipaKon, for
those who do lack the capacity to consent.

@TinkleLin: ‘Research into Social Media as a method of Consent for Contact (ContactME-‐IBS)’
Unfortunately I missed this tweetchat but read through the transcript I was really interested to
see how much social media reached out to people who did not know that there were research
studies they could take part in if they wanted to. They then shared the informaKon with
friends and family!

Unfortunately I don’t speak Spainish but this tweetchat lasted close to 2hrs and this morning I could
sKll see the conversaKon was sKll going on! Most of the tweetchat was under #WhyWeDoResearch but
I did noKce some tweets used #WyWeDoResearch (so for the Spainish tweetchat look out for both).

@NHS_NSResearch & @PwSiobhan: ‘Living Longer, Aging Well’
This tweetchat raised some interesKng points the need for a more inclusive and MDT
approach to research examining longevity, the impact of co-‐morbidiKes on living longer,
how research impacts on paKents and on how well we implement research findings into
pracKce.
