G+ Authorship

G+ and Authorship is going to play a big role in search, both at a publisher and author level.

Authors – can use G+ Authorship to take ownership of a piece of content using their G+ User profile.

Publishers – can use the publisher tag to link to G+ Business Page

Page 10: Why you should NOT ignore G+ and Authorship

Google used to understand Websites NOT People, but G+ Authorship is changing all that .

Associating your G+ profile with content on prominent sites tells Google you are an expert in that niche and all your content in that niche will benefit from this.

Option 1: Link your content to your Google+ profile using a verified email address.

Option 2: Set up authorship by linking your content to your Google+ profile.

a) Link from your Google+ profile to your content

Setting up G+ Authorship

b) Link from your content to your G+ profile

add a link to your Google+ profile using the “rel=author” tag in the link.

No Authorship Image Yet ?• Test the Authorship Mark-up using the Rich Snippet Testing Tool

• Typically the page should contain a single article by one author

• Show a clear byline on the page, stating the author wrote the article and using the same name as used on their Google+ profile

• Its wise NOT to use authorship on home pages, product pages, category archive, contact pages, etc …. It’s meant to be used on content pages

• Wherever possible, use real first and last names to get author snippets, and try using that as the link to your G+ user profile ( with ?rel=author )

• Use your photo and not an avatar - Google prefers to feature a human who wrote the content.
