Last month it was raining so much I was considering building an ark. Since then, the moisture has slowed down

to the point of getting out the sprinklers. It’s either feast or famine around here! By the time this issue comes out,

the “Back to the Fifties” weekend will be just a memory, but a good one, I hope. I’ll have room to put some photos

of the event in this month’s edition, saving the rest for a later date. Once the BTT50’s has taken place, it’s time to

get serious about planning for our big event which is the Summer Spectacular. Looking at the events page, I

know that you can find plenty to do to keep the carbon cleaned out of your favorite ride.

OK, let’s fast forward this a few days since I started on this column. The “Fifties” is now history for this year. Our

condolences go out to Jerry Forness for being in the wrong place at the wrong time with his ‘47 Ford. Hopefully, it

can be brought back to its beautiful state. With the rain and construction, driving in the area of the fairgrounds

was quite challenging at times. Thursday, when I was running around getting things ready for the model car show

in the grandstand, the rain was steady, and the traffic slow. I then went down to the southern pickup area to help

out for awhile, and it was still coming down. When registration started wrapping up by 7 p.m., it was trying to clear

up. Friday dawned bright & clear, but again we were caught up in a quick shower in the afternoon which sent one

of my friends scurrying back to his Ford roadster to get it covered with a tarp. Friday was my only day to enjoy the

show. A 50th wedding anniversary party took us to Wisconsin on Saturday, and from there we kept going on up to

the U.P. to spend some time with mom, which is where we are as I work on this. I guess after 33 consecutive

years of BTT50’s, I could afford to be away this one time. Looking back to when I started composing this article

over a week ago, I think we can put the sprinklers away for awhile! A lot of fun stuff coming up to keep us occu-

pied and the car cleaning supply companies in business. Have a good time! See you out there somewhere. DB

DUANE’S WORLD

SOUTHERN CRUZER/WANDERERS WEDNESDAY GUYS STAY BUSY

Speaking for myself, “Man, it’s great to be retired!” Every Wednesday I meet with a bunch of rowdies at Perkins,

for breakfast. Then, weather permitting, it’s off for a cruise or mini car show which often involves more food and

getting our lawn chairs out of the trunk for some relaxing and the never ending BS-ing. This last month we were

invited to two shows including the Presbyterian Home in Bloomington, and the grand opening of the Advance Au-

to store in Richfield. Photos by the editor

SOUTHERN CRUZER CAR CLUB MONTHLY MEETING MINUTES, June 21, 2017 - Taken by Duane Barclay

President Jerry Forness called the membership meeting of the Southern Cruzers to order at 7:00 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was observed.

Secretary’s report: A motion was made by Terry Stade and seconded by Tim Hanna to accept the minutes of the May 2017 meeting as printed in the Cruz News. The motion was approved.

Treasurer’s report: Dick Lidbom read the treasurer’s report. Ken Ingram made a motion to approve the report. The motion was seconded by Fran Stade, and the motion passed. A call for bills was made. Ron Willson submitted a bill for $1118.50 for the cost of the TSS t-shirts. Dick Clemmer made a motion to pay the bill, seconded by Ron (Eagan) Anderson, and the motion passed. A total of $950.00 from TSS sponsors, vendors, pre-registration, and membership was turned over to the treasury.

Membership Chairperson: Jim Neher reported that club membership now stands at 96 (173 total). The club wel-comes new members, Tracy & Don Tredinnick, Savage, MN. New club rosters are available, and club plaques are on sale for $20.00.

Events: Anita Brown reported that the Ladies’ Night is on hiatus until September. Tim Hanna reported that the Red Barn Pizza cruise was cancelled due to lack of interest. The Cruzer Night Out will resume in September. The Burnsville NAPA car show will be Sunday, July 2. Tim also reported that the club has an invitation from Bruce Tschida from Lake Marion Collision for their BBQ on Friday, July 7, 6 - ????. It was also reported that at the Ea-gan Market Fest on July12, there will be two $50 prizes given for a veteran showing their car. Fran Stade will have American flags for display on vet’s cars. The club has been asked to once again host the gates at the Hastings Night Out on September 23. The club has also been invited to the USAF Family Day Car show on Sunday, August 13. As in past years, we will meet at the Ikea East parking lot for a 10 a.m. departure. Jerry Forness reported on the Chaska River City Days show & parade on Sunday, July 30. If interested, contact Jerry for an application.

Old Business: None

New Business: Jack Keenan sent out 9 hard copies of the Cruz News.

TSS Business: Ron Willson is asking members for sponsorship recommendations. Ron also had the worker’s t- shirts ready for distribution. Ron is looking for volunteers to hand out TSS flyers at the “Back to the 50’s” event. Tim Hanna reported that we have lost Pepsi as a main sponsor. Apple Valley Ford is back on board as a $2,000 spon-sor. Ed Saunders posed the question of approaching liquor vendors for TSS sponsorship. It was the consensus of the members attending not to pursue this at this time.

MSRA News: Ken Ingram reported that there shouldn’t be any traffic problems on Snelling avenue during BTT50’s as the construction is nearly done. Ken also made mention that it would be nice to get some MSRA voting events on the south side. Fran Stade has metal BTT50’s signs and MSRA CDs for sale. The next meeting will be at Apple Valley Ford in Apple Valley on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at 7 p.m. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Karen Keenan, seconded by Dick Clemmer, and the motion carried. The meet-ing was adjourned.

SUMMER SPECTACULAR HELP NEEDED The main club event of the year is rapidly approaching, and it is promising to be another good event! The worker’s

list has been posted, and there are several work slots still open to be filled. New members of the club are encour-

aged to take part in whichever way they can. All volunteers will get a t-shirt and a meal ticket worth $5 to be used

at the food vendor of their choosing. If you would like to join in on the fun, August 26, contact: Ron Willson (952-

892-6081), or Tim Hanna (952-894-2395), and they will get you set up for a rewarding experience. The hardest

part of the whole process is knowing your t-shirt size!

SOUTHERN CRUZERS MAN THE GATES AT HASTINGS

Saturday, June 3, was the first Hastings Night Out event for 2017, and our club handled the gate keeping duties. Because of some changes on the east end of town, the worker’s parking has been moved to the bank lot on the west side of town. The gates were manned in two shifts this time, 5 - 7, and 7 - 9 p.m. and some members just gathered to ride their lawn chairs and visit on a beautiful evening.

were asked to again be the host on Saturday, September 23. The setup

will be the same as last time with two shifts, and our reserved parking in

the same lot. If you would be interested in working that night, contact

Jerry Forness (612-719-6088) to get your name on the worker’s list.
