A. Sunday Was the Day of the Resurrection

Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

1. The resurrection proved the deity of ChristRomans 1:4 And declared to be the Son of God with

power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

2. There would be no church without the resurrection1 Corinthians 15:14 And if Christ be not risen, then is

our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

3. There would be no salvation without the resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

4. The resurrection authenticated the teachings of Christ

John 2:18-21 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? But he spake of the temple of his body.

C. Sunday Commemorates Deliverance from the Law

O Galatians 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

1. Christ died to deliver us from the law2. No one can be justified by keeping the

lawGalatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Page 10: Why worship on sunday

3. We are saved by grace through faitha. No amount of law keeping or other works can

save usb. We ought to celebrate being free from the law

4. Grace calls for higher standard than the lawRomans 7:6 But now we are delivered from the

law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

a) The spirit of the law calls for greater holinessb) The law called for Israel to rest on Saturdayc) Under grace we rest and worship one day a weekd) For centuries most Christians have made Sunday that day

of rest and worship

“ those who walked in the ancient practices attain unto newness of hope , no longer observing Sabbaths, but fashioning their lives after the Lord’s day, on which our life also rose through Him, that we may be found disciples of Jesus Christ, our only teacher.”

ConclusionA. Keeping a Certain Day of Worship Does Not

SaveRomans 14:5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

B. Growth in Grace Comes through public and private worship

1. We ought to have private worship everyday2. Sunday is a fitting day for public worship

Colosians 2:16-17 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of

the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ
