Why Teachers Rock Writing B2B CopyBy Julia Daniels

Quite recently I noticed a trend in a few writers’ groups where I lurk. I am meeting fellow-teachers! It made me wonder about the percentage of teachers that write. Maybe my teacher awareness radar is just on high alert because it is almost time for summer break. But, think about it. It makes perfect sense for teachers to rock writing, really. Why?

Our favorite teachers are good storytellers. Nothing hooks your reader or web audience like a good story. If your business solution has satisfied clients, you need to share those stories! Describing how your business solves your client’s problems is a great credibility booster. Chances are a teacher can aptly tell your success stories.

We communicate for hours daily to a wide variety of personalities. If we understand the demographics and pressing problems of your target audience, we will find a way to clearly communicate your business solutions. Be sure to share this vital information with your copywriter.

Teachers communicate creatively. We try to find ways, words, and even a little craziness to snag our students’ attention. Now granted, craziness doesn’t sell business, but great wording does! People like to buy from people who cleverly engage them with valuable information.

We know that learning styles apply to everyone. Teachers are detectives, trying to walk a mile inside their students’ minds. Different marketing strokes work for different folks. Maybe you need a slice of video demonstration with that product page?

We understand scope and sequence. In other words, before you can learn decimals, you really need to know how to add, subtract, divide, and multiply. A good, basic, clear explanation in a white paper or case study can greatly improve your business marketing success. Your sales people will love that targeted information, too!

Great teachers are insatiably curious, lifelong learners. On any given day you will catch us with our noses in a book. Hey, we really want to read your business marketing materials and watch that PowerPoint before we write fresh copy for you. What makes your product or service unique? How does it work? Who is the end-user? Why is this of benefit for them? What are your marketing goals for this project?

We make lesson plans, i.e., organize our thoughts in a logical fashion. Making outlines and planning projects is what we are good at. And, we tweak those plans when needed. If plan A didn’t work, we are humble enough to tweak our plans for the benefit of our audience. If tweaking your copy (within reason) makes you look good and increases your leads and revenue, it is a win-win situation.

Sure, there are more ways a teacher can rock writing, but let’s stick with bite-sized chunks. Where to start? I recommend that you start by highlighting your success stories. After all, people want to do business with someone they know, like, and trust. Enhance your credibility. Hire a teacher/writer as your communication pro today!
