2. For the record Every public high school student in the state of New Jersey (who is not medically exempt) must complete successfully ONE (1) year of a world language. Most state and private colleges require 2-3 years of the same language for entry into their programs. Spanish taken in the Middle School does not count towards those 2-3 years. 3. Why speak Spanish? 4. According to the 2010 Census, there were 50.5 million Hispanics living in the U.S. (Thats 16% of the nations population!) 5. Projected Hispanic population in the U.S. by the year 2050 will be 132.8 million. (Thats nearly 30% of the nations population!) 6. The state of New Jersey reported roughly 1.5 million Hispanics in the state last year, when the decennial census was conducted. NJ.com. February 03, 2011 7. In 2010 Ocean Countys Population was 576,567. 47,783 (12.07%) are Hispanic. Ocean County Census 2010 8. Locally Stafford Townships population was 26,535 in 2010. 1,410 reported being Hispanic. Thats 18.82%... And GROWING! 9. On a financial note Research from Rosetta Stone found that people who speak at least one foreign language have an average annual household income that's $10,000 higher than the household income of those who only speak English. And about 17 percent of those who speak at least one foreign language earn more than $100,000 a year. 10.
