Liposuction should not simply be viewed as a debulking procedure. In the patient of normal weight, this procedure is used to balance body contours through body-shaping know as liposculpture. This technique is very satisfying to patients who consistently exercise and eat a nutritionally sound diet, but have never had the body definition they desire.

There may be patients who gain benefit from harvesting fat from one area of the body to enhance another area. The process, called autologous fat transfer, has been used successfully in appropriate patients. Certain indications include facial volumization, breast enhancement and improving areas of fat necrosis or scarring. The long term results will vary among individuals.

Overall, liposuction has many long term benefits for both men and women. Additionally, these treatments may be packaged with other treatments for overall face and body rejuvenation.
