One of the oldest psychological struggles for all of mankind revolves around our att empt to reconcile why bad things

happen, especially why bad things happen to good people. even the most sincere believers revert to their personal philosophical ideas when grappling with this problem rather than allowing God’s Word to provide the answers. The problem is not lack of intelligence, or even lack of spirituality; the problem lies in the preconceived data that shapes our thinking. Here is a list of ten beliefs/issues that cause us to misunderstand this and many other important New Covenant issues:

1. Fatalism: The fi rst problem is rooted in our interpretati on of Sovereignty. We tend to overlap philosophical concepts of determinism, fatalism, and predeterminism (htt p://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatalism) with the biblical concepts of Sovereignty. Greek fatalism was introduced to the early church through corrupt, unbelieving leaders who sought to interpret the New Covenant through the paradigm of their cult beliefs.

2. Circumstance Theology: In my book, Taking the Limits Off God, I discuss what I call “circumstance theology.” This is when we create theology to justi fy why we are not seeing the promised outcome in our life. The main goal of circumstance theology is to protect our self-worth. like Job, we prefer to condemn God so we can justi fy ourselves (Job 40:8).

3. Unstable in the New Covenant: Very few believers know this is a covenant of peacewherein God makes peace with man through the

lord Jesus. Based on this covenant, unti l the ti me of wrath, the wrath of God is not poured out on Earth in any form. Because we haven’t heard or do not believe. The Gospel of Peace that is based on the covenant of peace, we live under condemnati on (the expectati on of wrath).

4. Condemnati on: In Christ we have been delivered from condemnati on. Yet, like many other benefi ts of the New Covenant our ignorance of the truth facilitates our acceptance of those things over which we have the authority to resist. However, when bad things happen our faulty beliefs lead us to assume it is God causing them. Then we fall into condemnati on, surrender our trust in God’s protecti on, and stop using our authority as believers.

5. Limiti ng God to the Beliefs of the Heart: We always create beliefs about God thatalign with the beliefs of our heart. The beliefs of our heart are basically the way we believe about ourselves. In both the Old and New Covenants we limit God by our heart beliefs and then create doctrines that condemn Him and justi fy ourselves. Their heart was not steadfast with Him, Nor were they faithful in His covenant (Ps 78:37).

Why Bad Things HappenYes, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel (Ps 78:41). A true disciple doesn’t limit God to fi t into their personal sense of self; instead, they expand their sense of self to be congruent with God’s defi niti on of who they are, thereby moving all personal boundaries.

6. Ignorance of the Finished Work of Jesus: Without a precise understanding and belief in what occurred from the cross to the throne we tend to overlook what Jesus did for us and instead we att empt to relate to God based on the Old Covenant. When we see ourselves in Christ we recognize that nothing can legally happen to us unless it can happen to Him at the right hand of God.

7. Following the Holy Spirit: While all of the promises of God are “yes” for us because we are in Christ (2 Cor. 1:20), we must hear and follow the Holy Spirit as He leads us down the paths wherein these promises and protecti on from the curses (Gal. 3:13) are experienced.

8. Using Our Authority: It is our job as stewards of Planet earth to use our authority. Based on what Jesus accomplished at the cross we should know what to declare lawful or unlawful in our life. However, because we are deceived by fatalism we passively wait for God to do that which He has called and equipped us to do.

9. Our Hearts Are Not Fully Persuaded:The Bible tells us that Abraham kept himself from wavering at the promise in the face of monumental evidence to the contrary because he was fully persuaded. Complete persuasion is more about knowing God than it is about knowing the promise. Aft er all, the promise is only as good as the person making the promise! We must experience inti macy with Christ in our own heart before we will become fully persuaded of His character, love, and faithfulness.

10. Remove All Doubt: Faith occurs when we believe with no wavering. In other words, our thoughts, emoti ons, beliefs, and feelings are all harmonious with God’s character and God’s promise! This only happens as we ponder, consider, imagine, and meditate on God’s Word allowing ourselves to see and experience living in the promise of God as if it is ours at this moment.

All of the promises of God being our Strength, our Rock, our High Tower, Shield, Buckler, and more are realized in Christ. If we are in Him we are safe. Our part is to always align our faith with the “in Him” realiti es of the New Covenant, and to always use our authority to align ourselves with His promises.

This arti cle is based on the series, Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

When we see ourselves in Christ

we recognize that nothing can legally happen to us unless it can

God.

June Testimonies

“Your Book, The Gospel of Peace, was so helpful in setti ng me free from religion. Thank you for your obedience.”

“I just wanted to take a moment to thank Jim and this ministry for changing my LIFE! As a Christi an for almost 50 years, I can’t believe how many beliefs I held in err and with the obvious lack of power in my life. I have immersed myself in his teachings by CDs, books, and weekly broadcasts for almost a year now! I had the absolute pleasure of seeing him in person in recently and, once again, left a teaching session with more ‘freedom’ than I have ever known.

I was brought up in a severely legalisti c church and my life was full of condemnati on, guilt, shame… all of it! It seems that now the Word of God is like those old 70’s songs that I know every lyric to, but never really heard!! I can quote many, many scriptures, but never really GOT it unti l now!! I love you Jim, I love your ministry, I love the absolute diff erence you have made and conti nue to make in my life by your insights!! I will conti nue to be the ever-learning student who fi nally has a veil lift ed, and is fi nally stepping to that “other” side that I had envisioned must only happen in the next world. Thanks for all you do!“ - DM

“Hi Pat, I wanted to let you

know Monday was my fi rst day with the Heart Physicsprogram. I used the 3-3-3/relax exercise at work and it actually helped me when I came into contact with one of the people who someti mes shames me. I usually turn beet red when I see them coming and today I didn’t!!! When I saw them I just

did the 3-3-3/relax count and somehow I didn’t fl ush and turn red. Usually my face and ears get so red you could fry an egg on them; so just the fi rst message has helped. I will conti nue building on that exercise.” - CJ

“Thank you for the preview copy of Moving Your Invisible Boundaries!

Your ministry has given me the knowledge to be drawn into divine encounters and it has been a door of invitati on in experiencing God’s views and opinions daily. It feels so good to know God’s love toward me and His creati on. As I minister to whom the Lord sends, my spirit sees the person’s capti vity caused by the same old processes producing

“carnal loops.” Their same old thoughts, friends, atti tude toward their circumstances, and situati ons is keeping them from experiencing the manifestati on of their God identi ty and fi nished work in Jesus. About 95% of people who call me for prayer, counsel, and ministry don’t know that they are being held in capti vity. They are not aware unti l they meet someone that can see right through them and can share what will happen to them in the days that follow if they listen and do what is said. It is wonderful and fun ministering to people as the Holy Spirit leads. Thank you, Jim, for giving us advice and counsel in the understanding of our body, soul, and spirit.

I see the heartf elt breath of God in you. I hear the vibrati ons of your image and likeness of God. It is awesome and wonderful. Amen!” - RG

“I have been a Spirit-fi lled Christi an for 23 yrs. I am an Auxiliary Chaplain at a women’s prison. I fi rst heard of Dr. Richards on Sid Roth. I became a World Changer and began to purchase his materials. To make a long story short, I purchased The Prayer Organizer as well as the book, The Anatomy of a Miracle. While meditati ng on the scriptures of righteousness in The Prayer Organizer I began to realize that because I am righteous I have ALL things that Jesus has.

I then began to read the book, The Anatomy of a Miracle, and applied what Dr. Richards taught me.

As a result I have 20/20 vision again. I am about 70% there, now able to read Dr. Richards’ books without the aid of glasses and my vision is clearer and clearer every hour. I was so excited I could not wait unti l the enti re manifestati on arrived to tell him! Sorry if I jumped the gun, but I realize that this is just the beginning, I have so much more to meditate and receive.

Thank you Dr. Richards, you are amazing!” - RR

W hile it is true that not all of the framers of the Constitution were Christians, they all held the common belief in the morals

and values of the Word of God. So much so that they knew the Constitution would be meaningless apart from these biblical principles being alive in the hearts of men. Therefore, they looked to the wisdom of God’s word, as well as human history to craft a Constitution based, specifically, on God’s understanding of human nature. While not all of the framers believed in the depravity of man, none of them shared the belief of the inherent goodness of man. This is a humanistic philosophy designed to deceive and stands in opposition to God’s Word. Our Constitution was written to protect our citizens from the inherent corruption that the Bible and history reveal about the plight of leaders with unchecked power!

The Bible warns of the potential for any sin to be our downfall. However, it seems to imply that greed for power and money are among the most common and the most incorrigible. In fact, Jesus warned that those who have the evil eye, i.e. the eye that looks with covetousness toward what belongs to others, will be corrupt in all their understanding. The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad (evil), your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness (Matt. 6:22-23)! The person with the evil eye (the eye seeking security, identity and self-worth through wealth and/or power) therefore, is corrupt in every aspect of life.

In Matt. 6:24 Jesus goes on to say: No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. There is not a third option for how we will relate to anything that opposes our pursuit of self. If we attempt to have two masters we will always end up hating the one that stands in opposition to our selfishness. In this case the two masters are God and self. These verses portray the individual who is torn by the desire to gratify and serve self or to serve God. Those who seek to serve their own opinions, ideas, or desires enter into a deception that justifies their lust for control of others and their possessions. Since the Word of God explicitly denounces such attitudes the

self-serving will always end in opposition to God, no matter how much they attempt to appear otherwise.

Jesus goes on to say: You cannot serve God and mammon. Mammon is usually incorrectly translated as money. It actually is more about that which a selfish person pursues and trusts to meet the needs that can only be met in a meaningful relationship with God. In this context it is not just money, but avarice. By coupling this with the previous verse about the evil eye, which is the covetous eye that desires to take what someone else possesses, we see a self-serving individual who gratifies himself by taking what belongs to others. The commandment not to covet covered everything that belongs to another. The evil eye is not only a trait of a corrupt individual but also a corrupt government philosophy.

The framers of our Constitution believed what the Bible taught about human nature. In fact, Jer. 17:9 was a key verse that impressed them to create the separation of powers. They wanted to make sure no single branch of government would ever be able to have all the power. They knew, according to God’s Word and all of recorded history, the hearts of un-regenerated men were wicked. They also realized that even the godly would be corrupted if allowed too much power. They knew that too much power always leads to abuse.

In America people in power (both Republicans and Democrats) no longer serve the people or uphold the Constitution; they seek to keep the power within their group. It is no longer about serving; it is about control! The primary way to accomplish control apart from armed force is to buy votes through programs: military programs, space programs, highway programs, farm programs, and yes, entitlement programs, just to name a few. As benevolent as these programs may appear, none of them as they are implemented today are within the scope of the original intent of the Constitution. They are simply ways to buy votes from the states and individuals that benefit most from them. Benjamin Franklin said, “When the people find that they can vote themselves money that will herald the end of the republic.” This statement was, no doubt, based on a common understanding of greed, power, people, and history! This is exactly how our government functions today! But at the core of the problem is an impotent Church comprised of believers and ignorant citizens.

We have a nation that has been systematically alienated from God’s values and morals. It isn’t enough that we have a lawless nation; we even have theological doctrines that reject God’s law. It seems the church and the nation failed to grasp the devastating consequences of lawlessness (KJv- Iniquity). In the absence of godliness we have the poor who are being seduced into covetousness through entitlement programs. We have some well-to-do humanists whose self-righteousness rejects everything the Bible teaches about greed, economy, and personal responsibility as a way to help the poor. Some psychologists suggest the wealthy who are not personally generous have a need to salve their conscience by giving away other people’s money. They have become gods unto themselves exalting their opinions above God’s, claiming themselves to be more loving and benevolent than God. Then we have elitists in government (in both parties) who think they should make all decisions for all men. They think the world would be better with the enlightened elitists in control of everything. And they are buying it all with money and programs that are neither biblical nor constitutional. They are lawless on every plane!

Driving it all is mystery Babylon the great, the mother of harlots and of the abominations of the earth (Rev. 17:5) using covetousness, arrogance, and lawlessness of each of these groups to deceive and overthrow. Interestingly, Socialism claims that by making every man financially the same they will eradicate envy and ultimately eradicate wars. Interestingly, the only way this corrupt philosophy is sold to the masses is by stirring the envy and covetousness of the poor who become emboldened with a manufactured sense of entitlement to take that which others have labored to accomplish. Sadly, the Church, as a whole, seems to be oblivious to the battle from a political or biblical perspective.

The Bible says, So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; It takes away the life of its owners. Whether rich or poor there is no justification for covetous greed. It always justifies taking the life of others to benefit self! But even worse, it is never satisfied (Pr 30:15). The rich should not oppress the poor and the poor should not attempt to rob the rich. Neither is justified; both are destructive and sinful! But even worse, no government should use covetousness and greed as a means to gain control of the people. This is the philosophy at the heart of class warfare!

In the end we will all see that Mystery Babylon was the great deceiver of the Earth. This is the system that seeks a one world economy, a one world government, and control by the elite. Power will be concentrated in the hands of the few and oppression by those who have promised so much will be the reward of those who eat the fruit of covetousness. When Mystery Babylon falls it will be the final devastation to the world system. She is what gives

power to the last days’ kings. She is the current economic driving force of the world with whom the rulers of the earth commit fornication. It is this lust for wealth and power by the mega-wealthy that is creating All THe CHAOS IN THe WORlD! All the wars, famines, uprisings, and discontent are manufactured by those who seek to own and control the world. Through the manufactured chaos they convince us to trade our God-given freedoms for a false sense of security. To once again quote Franklin, “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty.”

The only real cure to the problems of the world is righteousness. Righteousness exalts a nation. Government cannot bring peace. When our politicians stopped using their position to protect us from government and began to buy our loyalty they became our oppressors. There are no laws, no matter how just the intent, that will change the hearts of man. The world needs Jesus as lord - not religion, not just salvation, but a commitment to the lordship of Jesus. We live in a country where the lordship of Jesus is rejected. There is no room in government envisioned by the elitists for loyalty to any god but government!

It seems we are beset on every side with threats of lost freedom, and it is true. Every governmental department has too much power; the IRS: too much power; the Supreme Court: too much power; the Department of education: too much power; Homeland Security: too much power; the president, with executive decisions: too much power. You can keep going down the list. every branch of our government is out of control. Any branch of the government that can pass and enforce laws apart from being voted on by Congress is in violation of the Constitution. The goal of all this concentrated power is the same goal to which their father, the devil, has always aspired: to overthrow God, destroy man, and possess Planet Earth!

educate yourself in the Constitution. live under lordship. Walk in love. vote based on track record, never party! Never agree to anything no matter how benevolent it seems if it is incongruent with Bible authority! Never allow yourself to have the evil eye. God will meet all of your needs and fulfill all of your desires in a way that doesn’t destroy you or anyone else. Always seek first the Kingdom and know all your other needs will be met! Make God your Source!

O ne goal of most serious Christi ans is to be led by the Holy Spirit. But almost simultaneously with making this statement pictures fl ood my

mind of wild “Holy Ghost” meeti ngs where people run the aisles shouti ng and shaking. Jesus should be our model of what it looks like for one to be fi lled and led by the Holy Spirit. Since, however, we tend to ignore Him as our model all we have left is what it looks like in a traditi onal religious setti ng. Unfortunately, the great majority of Christi ans who talk much about being led by the Spirit are looking for some out of control, out of body experience whereby the Spirit of God violates free will and makes them do spiritual things. However, the way it looks in religious practi ce is not represented anywhere in the Old or New Testaments.

Jesus said the Holy Spirit would be our Helper, not our controller (John 14:26). The Greek word for “helper” means “one called alongside to help.” He is to help, comfort, and represent us in all things pertaining to the New Covenant. He is also the Advocate. An advocate is someone who argues your case when you are condemned. Most theologians imply that He stands before God as our Advocate to argue in our behalf. I don’t really see that as a possibility under the New Covenant. According to Paul, God does not condemn us, fi nd fault with us, nor att empt to separate Himself from us (Rom. 8:31-38). Therefore, when we have these feelings, if we listen to the voice of God in our heart, we hear His voice arguing our case to our own conscience. The Helper is the Advocate that speaks to us in our heart when we condemn ourselves. He empowers us with grace, making us able to live in righteousness.

The Holy Spirit who abides within us helps us in all things pertaining to God! But the Helper is not a doer. He is ever-present and ever-ready to assist and empower us. He will not, however, impose His will upon us. He will not invade or violate our personal choices. In fact, His sti ll small voice is only perceivable by those who focus their att enti on inward toward Him. There is never a ti me He does not att empt to lead us into life at its best (John 10:10). He is always att empti ng to lead us away from anything that would cause us to strive (temptati on). But we hear, receive, and experience the voice toward which we have focused our awareness.

Our batt le as New Covenant believers is not with the devil; he is a defeated foe. Our struggle is not with fl esh and blood. Our batt le is always with our own soul/mind/thoughts. every aspect of adorning ourselves with the full armor of God addresses some part of our thoughts, beliefs,

and emoti ons. That upon which we focus our att enti on grows in our experience. In reality, problems don’t get bigger because we focus on them; the fl esh doesn’t get strong, and the temptati on doesn’t actually get stronger. What actually happens is as we focus on anything our brain develops the neuro-pathways so we become more aware of them and more sensiti ve to them; therefore, more profi cient at experiencing them.

When we’re hurti ng the pain doesn’t actually get worse although it seems to; we just get bett er at experiencing it. likewise, we don’t get more of the Holy Spirit. We receive the Spirit without measure when we are born again (John 3:34). We have all the anointi ng there is to get (1 John 2:27). What seems like an increase in anointi ng is actually an increase in awareness because we place our awareness more on the Holy Spirit. We become more mindful of Him. We acknowledge and pay att enti on to Christ in us and His anointi ng becomes more real in us.

The phrase “led by the Spirit” seems to present the idea that this is something the Spirit of God would do intermitt ently or on certain occasions. However, as we look at the context and the language we realize that being led by the Spirit is not as much about individual events as it is about a way of life. This is exactly what Paul is referring to when he talks about being “spiritually minded” i.e., having a “Spirit mind.”

life in the Spirit is not an occasional experience where the Holy Spirit comes upon us and then leaves. That is an Old Testament concept. The anointi ng coming and going is not a New Testament reality. The New Covenant is not an invitati on to random, individual experiences with God. It is a call to a lifestyle that is habitually connected with God wherein He becomes our Source, our Strength, our Teacher… literally our Everything!

In Romans 8 the Apostle Paul talks about life in the Spirit. In fact, he talks about how we can have the power and ability to fulfi ll the righteousness of the law without becoming legalists. With so much confusing teaching about grace, it is essenti al that we understand the concepts presented in this parti cular chapter. The law represents God’s moral standards. It represents God’s character and ethics. The righteousness of the law has nothing to do with our standing before God. The earliest forms of righteousness have to do with how we relate to others. The law is God’s standard and wisdom for how to walk in love toward others. Our goal as disciples is to be like Him; therefore, we have a great value for the law. However, most

Christi ans who have value for the law become legalists and they don’t understand what Paul taught in this chapter.

In Romans 8 Paul presents us with two opti ons for approaching life. I’m assuming by the fact that he only off ered these two opti ons they are the only two opti ons available. In other words, we will do one or the other. We will either have a spirit-mind or a fl esh-mind. Our att enti on will either be focused on fulfi lling the desires of the fi ve senses or it will be focused on fulfi lling the righteousness of the Spirit. There is no third opti on. The one upon which we focus our att enti on is the one that is leading us! Paul said we are slaves to the one we follow!

It seems we have the noti on that we can live with litt le awareness of God, pay litt le att enti on to His Spirit, and when we have special needs or a crisis turn to Him to seek His leading out of this parti cular problem. But the word “led,” as in the phrase “led by the Spirit,” does not imply that we are being led to or from any parti cular place. This is more about a way of life than a specifi c event or crisis.

The life that Jesus died to give us is already ours. It has been given freely. There is nothing else for Him to do. However, if our att enti on is on sati sfying the desires of the fl esh we will fi nd ourselves conti nually walking in oppositi on to what God is doing, how He is leading, and even resisti ng the provision for the very problem we face. Paul says it like this: To be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the fl esh cannot please God (Rom. 8:6-8).

Here’s the paradox: God doesn’t want our desires to be left unfulfi lled. The problem is not that we have natural desires. The problem is when our strategies for happiness are focused on fulfi lling these fi ve senses we become self-aware, self-centered, and self-ish. In other words, it’s all about “self.” When, on the other hand, we allow ourselves to be led by the Spirit, seeking to sati sfy righteousness fi rst (Matt . 6:33), all of these other needs are met in a way that not only does not destroy us, instead it fulfi lls us completely.

Paul brings being led by the Spirit into context when he says, Therefore, brethren, we are debtors — not to the fl esh, to live according to the fl esh. For if you live according to the fl esh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God (Rom. 8:12-13).

In verses 15-17 he reminds us that we have no debt to the fl esh that needs to be fulfi lled. We do have a debt to the Spirit of Righteousness. However, this is not about coming back under the law to fi nd righteousness; this is about fi nding true freedom. even though the Holy Spirit will always lead us to fulfi ll the righteousness of the law, He

does not lead us to live under the law. We are under grace (God’s ability) not under the law (in our ability). And even though we are heirs in Christ and all we have is freely given, the Holy Spirit is seeking to lead us into our fulfi llment as heirs. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adopti on by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father. The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suff er with Him, that we may also be glorifi ed together.

God wants us to live as heirs. The Holy Spirit is leading us into the choices that allow us to parti cipate in our inheritance. He is not leading us to enslave us. He is leading us to freedom. The legalists think all obedience is legalism. even many who embrace grace are, in fact, legalists. In their att empts to fi nd freedom they become lawless (reject God’s law). lawlessness is slavery to the fl esh! When grace is embraced as a mere doctrine instead of a divine infl uence on the heart it is meaningless. When righteousness is valued and loved grace works in us to fulfi ll the law. But the real moti ve of the law is not to fulfi ll the lett er of the law itself, it is a guide to show us how to walk in love and treat others as God would treat them: bless those who curse you and do good to those who hate you (Matt . 5:44). It is only when we do these things that we properly represent God in the earth, showing the world who God really is!

Being free from the law for righteousness yet fulfi lling the law is a paradox that is only experienced by those who stay connected and dependent on Christ in them. Following the Spirit instead of obeying the law is a paradox of freedom only found by those who believe grace is God’s ability, strength, and capacity that works from our heart and is freely given. Depending on grace (God’s ability) instead of the fl esh to live in God’s standard is the only way to escape corrupti on and sti ll not become bound to the law! And loving righteousness is only brought to its ulti mate reality when we are fully committ ed to walking in love. None of this is found by the person who is not creati ng awareness in their heart for the voice, infl uence, and leading of the Holy Spirit.

This arti cle is based on the teachings for May and June, Experiencing the Voice of God and Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People? Experiencing and following the leadership of the Holy Spirit is the primary factor in avoiding the troubles that lie ahead.
