As an esthetician, you’ll make a job out of helping people look and feel beautiful by providing them with professional skin care treatments. These treatments will vary depending on the individual needs of your clients, but may include facials, body scrubs, chemical peels, hair removal or professional makeup consultations.

Before you can answer the question above, it’s important to understand all of the benefits this career has to offer. These benefits include (but aren’t limited to) job growth, a positive work environment and the satisfaction of helping others.

Plenty of Job Opportunities:

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects faster than average growth for the esthetician career, with a 25 percent growth rate between 2010 and 2020. This growth means that esthetics school graduates can expect plenty of job opportunities well into the future.

A Social Career:

In the esthetician career, you’ll spend much of your time interacting with clients – both on a professional and a personal level. Professionally, you’ll consult with them to provide a thorough skin analysis and treatment plan. Personally, you’ll make them feel at ease and develop connections by talking about your lives, your families and other topics of interest to you both. Many of these clients will come back repeatedly, making it likely that you’ll develop friendships along the way. To help prepare you for the social aspect of the career, you’ll work on building your communication skills in esthetics school.

Multiple Career Opportunities:

Although many esthetics school graduates end up working in a salon or spa, there are many other esthetician career opportunities to explore. For example, you might head back to esthetics school to work as an instructor, or you might get a job in the travel industry working on a cruise ship or in a resort. Still other estheticians choose to focus on makeup artistry, pursuing careers in the entertainment and fashion industries. With the proper esthetics school training, there is almost no limit to where your esthetician career can go.Other important benefits of the esthetician career are the satisfaction of helping people, the flexible schedules of many estheticians and the ability to go into business for yourself as an independent esthetician or salon owner.
