Best Answer: Tollen's reagent ie ammonical silver nitrate is always preparedfresh, becuse on standing it decomposes to form an explosive precipitate.

The reagent should be freshly prepared and never stored for more than a coupleof hours. After the test has been performed, the resulting mixture should be acid-ified with dilute acid before disposal. These precautions are to prevent the for-mation of the highly explosive fulminating silver, which is mostly silver nitride,Ag3N.There were reports for ammoniacal silver nitrate solution being exploded aftersome time. it is a very reative ant the strength of that solution vil be redusing time to timeand after some hours or days it becomes neutral so it is no stored
