Ce[ebratm0 5 ^ears of t^e WWIF Volume

The Who's Who in Fluorescence 2007 is the 5̂ ^ volume of the Who's who series. The previous four volumes (2003 - 2006) have been very well received indeed, with lOOO's of copies being distributed around the world, through conferences and workshops, as well as through internet book sites.

In the last 5 years a great many of you have sent comments and suggestions, we thank you all. We continue to accommodate as many of these as possible into the new volumes. This new 2007 volume features some 405 entries from no fewer than 35 countries worldwide, as compared to 366 entries in the 2006 volume. We have received 45 new entries this year, and deleted 6 entries that were not updated by contributors from past years, some 62 entries being deleted in the 2006 volume. Some older entries were again retained by the editors.

In addition, we have a continued strong company support, which will enable us to further disseminate the volume in 2007-2008. In this regard we especially thank the instrumentation companies for their continued support, where without their financial contributions, it is likely that the volume would not be the success it is today.

We introduced a new author publication statistic into the 2005 volume, the Author Impact Measure (AIM) number. While voluntary, this number is intended to reflect an author's publication progress in past years. The AIM number simply summates the impact number (from the ISI database) of Journals published in, in that year, multiplied by the frequency of those publications. From those who chose to participate, we can see most impressive AIM numbers. We have subsequently additionally listed these at the front of the volume for simple comparison between contributors. Last year, some 88 AIM numbers were submitted and listed, 37 the year before. This year, the number submitted has risen again to 106 entries, greater than 25 % of all contributors.

Finally, we would like to thank Caroleann Aitken, The Who's Who in Fluorescence Co-ordinator for both the architecture and the typesetting of the entire volume in a timely fashion. Thanks also go to Aaron Johnson at Springer, for helping to make this volume possible, many thanks.

The 10th Conference on Methods an Applications of Fluorescence: Spectroscopy, Imaging and Probes (MAF 10),

Salzburg, Austria, 9 - 1 2 Sep. 2007.

The biannual MAF conferences, held in Graz (1989 and 1991), Prague (1993), Cambridge (1995), Berlin (1997), Paris (1999), Amsterdam (2001), Prague (2003), and Lisbon (2005), have acquired high reputation. They gather researchers dealing

with all aspects of fluorescence. The MAF 10 Conference will cover new techniques and methods, and their applications to a wide range of fields.

The MAF 10 Conference is of interest to all of those that work in fluorescence in some way, and will cover physical, chemical, biological, drug discovery,

pharmacological, diagnostic, medical imaging, and material science aspects. It will include contributions on new spectroscopic methods and techniques, the development

and application of fluorescent probes, and new techniques and applications of fluorescence imaging.

Thirty speakers of highest standing have been invited that will present their latest results. Six communications will be selected from the Abstracts submitted, and the respective authors will be invited to give a talk. Please submit your Abstract as soon

as possible.

MAF 10 is expected to attract a large number of participants, owing not only to the cutting-edge scientific content, but also to the attractive location and social

programmed (including a classical music concert). The number of participants in the conference is limited to 350, and early registration is strongly recommended for this

reason.
