TRANSCRIPT
Who’s the daddy?• Based on your
observations, describe what you think the kitten’s father might look like. Identify the evidence on which you based your inference.
• What determines what you look like?
TYPES OF
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTIONTake notes on Page 90
• No Egg or Sperm• Only one parent• Offspring all look the same as the parents• No variation in the offspring• Not good chance of surviving in a changing
environment
SEXUAL REPRODUCTION
• Egg and Sperm are produced• Two parents• Offspring are different from parents• Offspring can all look different• Better chance of surviving in a changing
environment
Which one are you?
List 5 other organisms that use sexual reproduction to reproduce
Which one is a bacteria?
List one more example of ASEXUAL reproduction.
Vocabulary
• Asexual Reproduction – The process by which a single organism produces offspring that have the same genetic material as the parent.
• Sexual Reproduction – A type of reproduction in which male and female reproductive cells combine to form offspring with genetic material from both parents.
List / Group / Label
• Think about all the characteristics we use to describe an individual.
• Work in pairs to write each characteristic on a small piece of paper.
• Classify the characteristics into two groups.
Vocabulary
• Acquired Traits – characteristics an individual has learned. A feature that an organism obtains from their lifetime (cannot be passed down from parent to offspring).
• Inherited Traits – characteristics an individual was born with. A feature passed down from a parent to offspring.
List / Group / Label
• Label each of your groups characteristics as either “Acquired Traits” or “Inherited Traits.”
• Put each of your characteristics under each label.
Homework
Due 2/21/14.Write a paragraph describing the difference
between inherited and acquired traits.
• List 5 examples of acquired traits.
