Who Let the Monks Out? In the monastery, this Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ was a real “who-let-the-dogs-out” kind of event. This was (and still is) the one and only day of the year when Carthusian monks are free to leave their hermitages and “make a visit” (as my mother used to say) to the Blessed Sacrament, exposed on the altar the whole day long. On every other day of the year, the hermit monks leave their “cells” only when summoned to church by the ringing of the monastery bell, but on this day the brothers are off the leash. Corpus Christi is their ticket to ride. On the Road Again … This is also the one day of the year when, right after morning Mass and just before Solemn Exposition, the monks hit the road with the Blessed Sacrament and process all through the monastery, singing and praying with incense billowing and candles flickering. Poor monk that I was, I often found myself absorbed less in the mystery of the Eucharist than in the grand tour of the monastic enclosure. It was the only day of the year when we had a chance to see corners of the monastery that ordinarily were none of our business and therefore off limits. “A place for everyone and everyone in his place” is the monastery way, but on this day, for the forty or so minutes we took in procession, every nook and cranny of the monastery was “my place.” This Is Holy Ground … The procession with the Blessed Sacrament is a way of “incarnating” the truth that the whole of the monk’s life is holy. Not just the church, but the kitchen too. Not just the sanctuary, but the garage as well. Not just the chalice, but the chisel. And what’s true on top of the holy mountain is just as true down at the bottom. What ‘s good for the monk is good for the mother. What’s true for the brother is true for the husband—and for the father. Show Me the Way … Very early on, the first Christians called their life, very simply and very beautifully, “The Way.” We follow. We walk. And there is no turn, there is no corner, there is no hidden place, which is not “on the way.” It’s all love. It’s all grace. An army marches on its stomach, they say. We the Church, the “Church Militant” as they used to say, we march on the strength of the one bread and the one cup. The Way leads from the Eucharist and to the Eucharist. On this Memorial Day Weekend, on this weekend of “remembering,” we remember too the One who died on Calvary’s Cross; the One whose rising gives hope to all who have fallen; and the One who has asked us to “do this” to remember him … Love, Fr. Colin

“A place for everyone and everyone in his place” is the monastery way, but on this day, for the forty or so minutes we took in procession, every nook and cranny of the monastery was “my place.”

This Is Holy Ground … The procession with the Blessed Sacrament is a way of “incarnating” the truth that the whole of the monk’s life is holy.

On this Memorial Day Weekend, on this weekend of “remembering,” we remember too the One who died on Calvary’s Cross; the One whose rising gives hope to all who have fallen; and the One who has asked us to “do this” to remember him …

How to Report Abuse – The Archdiocese takes very

seriously any and all allegations of sexual misconduct

by members of the clergy, Religious and lay staff of the

Archdiocese. We encourage anyone with knowledge of

an act of sexual misconduct to inform us immediately so

that we may take appropriate action to protect others

and provide support to victims of sexual abuse.

Individuals who wish to report an allegation of sexual

misconduct may do so by calling the Archdiocesan

Office of Child and Youth Protection at 201-407-3256.

ALTERNATIVE TO ABORTION If you know

someone who is considering having an abortion, here is

a number they might call that could be of help to them

to consider an alternative to this practice. The number is

1-800-395-HELP (4357).

MEDITATION Ebb and Flow by Henri Nouwen

Dear Lord,

Today I thought of the words of Vincent van Gogh:

“It is true there is an ebb and flow, but the sea

remains the sea.”

You are the sea.

Although I experience many ups and downs in my

emotions and often feel great shifts and changes in

my inner life, you remain the same.

Your sameness is not the sameness of a rock,

but the sameness of a faithful lover.

Out of your love I came to life;

by your love I am sustained,

and to your love I am always called back.

There are days of sadness and days of joy;

there are feelings of guilt and feelings of gratitude;

there are moments of failure and moments of

success; but all of them are embraced by your

unwavering love.

My only real temptation is to doubt in your love,

to think of myself as beyond the reach of your love,

to remove myself from the healing radiance of your

love.

To do these things is to move into the darkness of

despair.

O Lord, sea of love and goodness, let me not fear

too much the storms and winds of my daily life,

and let me know that there is ebb and flow,

but that the sea remains the sea. Amen.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS

Feast of Corpus Christi “They all ate and were satisfied. And when the

leftover fragments were picked up, they filled

twelve wicker baskets.” (Luke 9:17)

The story of the Loaves and Fishes shows us that when we share what we have, even if it doesn’t seem like that much, miracles can happen! Do not think that your gift is too small or insignificant! God blesses all the gifts we offer and makes them wondrous.

Through their union in love,

the couple experiences

the beauty of fatherhood and motherhood and

shares plans, trials, expectations and concerns;

they learn care for one another and

mutual forgiveness.

In this love, they celebrate their happy moments

and support each other in the difficult passages

of their life together.

Finance/Administration… A Christian community strives to steward its resources so that they can provide the material by which its various ministries can reflect the

parish’s mission to reflect Christ’s presence in all that we do and say. Finance Committee Members: Ed Hughes, Bill Ball, Sally

Quinn, Sheila Abate, Ed Trawinski, Loretta Stachiotti, Kristie Bednarz, Karen Gillies, Steve Palermo and Jerry Cunningham.

We are grateful to the 1,382 people who worshipped with us last weekend and contributed $12,491.50 in the offertory and $3,076.00 through Online Giving offertory,

which along with other fees and donations totaled $20,494.50. Our weekly expenses average out to $20,348.00.

Heating & Air Conditioning ~ Everyone knows that there are some months in which our electricity bill or heating bill is higher than

others. Well, it’s the same with the Church. As you know, we use an additional way of paying for our extra

energy months. In the back of the church each Sunday you will find separate ENERGY envelopes. If you should

happen to hit the jackpot that week, and wish to throw a dollar or two in that envelope, we’d greatly appreciate

it! You can throw these special envelopes right in the collection with your regular envelope. The energy

envelopes will not be mailed to you. They will simply be in the back of the church, so if you don’t spot them, be

sure to ask the ushers at your Mass. Thanks so much. And special thanks to those who have already been doing it

regularly. It makes a difference!!!

Online Giving…

You have the opportunity to make donations to our Sunday collection online! To sign up, go to the St. Anne website – www.stannefairlawnnj.org

There are several ways to access the system: 1. Underneath the scrolling slideshow on the home page, on the bottom right-hand corner, you will see a

light blue icon with a $ sign. Click that icon to go directly to the system.

OR

2. From the homepage, check the left-hand menu options. The second to last menu option says

“envelopes & online giving.” Click that link, and a page with various giving options will appear. Select the

Online Giving option to be taken directly to the system.

Once you are taken to the new site, click on the section that says Create New Account. Next you will see New User Account Registration. Fill out the form and click “submit.”

When you are enrolled, you can go into Manage My Account, where you will see My Payment Methods. Here you can choose to have the funds deducted from your checking or bank account (you will need your routing and account numbers on hand). Under Manage My Account, you will also see Give a New Gift. There you will decide when and how much to give. (In the list, Offertory Collection means the Sunday collection.) You can select recurring or one time gifts. You also have the option to access all the other special envelopes you would normally find in your envelope packet and which are generally one-time donations.

Each time you go to Mass, get a card that says “I have made my donation online” and put it in the collection when the usher comes around. Thanks so much for giving online!
