Who said it?

Hamilton or Jefferson

•Those who labor in the earth are the chosen people of God.

•Men are divided into two parties. Those who fear and distrust people and those who identify themselves with the people.

•Take mankind in general, they are vicious and governed by their passions.

•One great error is that we suppose mankind more honest than they are.

•The voice of the people has been said to be the voice of God, but the people are turbulent and changing, they seldom judge or determine right.

•Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers.

•I have great confidence in the common sense of mankind.

•If ever this vast country is brought under a single government, it will be one of the most extensive corruption.

•The cause of the French Revolution is compared to that of our American revolution, I do not like that comparison.

• A firm Union will be of the utmost moment of the peace and liberty of the states

• It is argued that a bank will give convenience to collecting taxes, I sir say it will swallow the common man

•I believe the British government forms the best model of government the world has ever produced.

•A bank has a natural relation to collecting taxes and promoting trade

•It is the British government which is so corrupt that has destroyed that nation

•A little rebellion now and then is a good thing.

•The incorporation of a bank, and the powers assumed by this bill, have not, in my opinion, been delegated to the United States by the Constitution.

•Justice and liberty make the man, the government is the enemy of individual liberty.

•Give all the power to many and they will oppress the few. Give all power to the few, they will oppress the many. Both therefore, ought to have power, that each may defend itself against the other.
