MIA Coaches has purchased a new 22 seater ‘Coaster’ and Nadine Harrison is now employed by MIA Coaches to drive the school bus. An additional passenger fare of $2.00 for an adult or $1.00 concession will be payable to the school bus driver. Additional passengers will only be able to embark on the bus if there are sufficient seats available. State Library Visit On Tuesday 18th August the State Library of NSW will be conducting a visit to Darlington Point as part of their travelling roadshow –‘ FAR Out! Treasures to the Bush program’. Students will be shown primary source materials not replicas or copies very rarely seen outside the library. The primary students (3-6) have been invited to attend. Professional Learning Brooke Ierano will be attending professional learning in Griffith next Tuesday – ‘The Habits of Highly Effective Teachers’, and I will be attending a Griffith Principal’s network meeting presented by Dr Brad Russell (Director, Public Schools NSW) on Monday. Jeans for Genes Day – Friday 7th August Last Friday students and staff donned their Jeans for ‘Jeans for Genes Day’. Jeans for Genes Day is a national day when people wear their jeans to raise much-needed funds for research into birth defects and diseases such as cancer, epilepsy, and a range of genetic disorders. Earn and Learn - Woolworths Whitton Murrami Public School will be participating in the Woolworths Earn and Learn reward program this year. Parents and community members are asked to collect stickers for our school. This can be done by sending them into school or placing them in the Whitton Murrami box at Woolworths in Leeton. The more stickers we can collect, the more resources we will be able to obtain for our school.

When to start school Your child can start Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn five on or before 31 July in that year. By law, all children must be enrolled in school by their sixth birthday.

Kindergarten Transition During Term 4, Whitton Murrami will start Kindergarten Transition. Kindergarten Transition is an opportunity for students who are starting school next year to start to get to know their teacher, make new friends, engage in fun and exciting learning programs, and familiarise themselves to the routines and structures of primary school. The dates and times for kindergarten transition are outlined below:

• Friday 16th October 2015 – 9am -10.30am

• Friday 23rd October 2015 – 9am – 11.30am

• Friday 30th October 2015 – 9am – 1.00pm

• Friday 6th November 2015 – 9am – 1.45pm

• Friday 13th November 2015 – 9am – 3.00pm

• Friday 20th November 2015 – 9am – 3.00pm

If these dates or times do not suit you, please contact the school and we will discuss alternative dates to accommodate your child.

Middle Schooling Middle Schooling continues this week with all Year 6 students participating in a variety of activities at Leeton High School. Mr Adams will transport the students to Leeton High School today. SAKG On Monday we will be making baked potatoes with Bolognese filling. A packed lunch will not be necessary on this day. Student Banking Students who have 10 or more tokens can redeem them at the front office on Wednesday’s. Headlice A few cases of head lice have been found in the school. This infection is highly contagious. The most effective way to reduce incidents in school is for all parents to carry out a thorough examination of their child’s head and treat any lice found at the same time. Please find further information attached.

School Photos On Tuesday 8th September the students and staff will have their school photos taken. Students are asked to wear their full winter uniform to school. More details regarding school photos will be sent out later in the term. Trivia Last Week Q: A farmer in Australia owns a beautiful pear tree. He supplies fruit to a nearby grocery store. The store owner has called the farmer to see how much fruit is available for him to purchase. The farmer knows that the main trunk has 24 branches. Each branch has 12 boughs and each bough has 6 twigs. Since each twig bears one piece of fruit, how many plums will the farmer be able to sell? A: None. The farmer has a pear tree not a plum tree. This Week Q: I do not have any special powers, but I can predict the score of any football game before it begins.

How can I do this?

VOX POP This week’s Vox Pop will feature Brandan I am looking forward to meeting with you and discussing the educational needs of your children and working together to provide a quality education for all students at Whitton Murrami Public School.

Stepping Stones Triple P Parenting Seminars Series Is this you?

Most of the time, you know you are doing a good job with parenting. But there are times when things get a little

tricky. Like when your toddler won’t eat her dinner. Or your six year old won't share his toys. If only someone

could give you some ideas to make those times easier! If this sounds like you, then a Stepping Stones Triple P

seminar may be right for you.

What is a Stepping Stones Seminar?

Stepping Stones Triple P seminars tackle the most common issues for parents of children with a disability.

Seminars are for large groups of parents – possibly 20 or more. It’s an informal presentation, a little like a

public forum. There are three seminars that each last 90 minutes and cover a different topic. We encourage

parents to try to attend all three.

When: Seminar 1 – Positive Parenting for Children With a Disability

26th August 9.30am – 11.30am

Seminar 2 – Helping Your Child Reach Their Potential 26th August 12.30p.m – 2.00p.m

Seminar 3 – Changing Problem Behaviour into Positive Behaviour 16th September 9.30a.m – 11.30a.m

Where: Wagga RSL corner of Dobbs and Kincaid St Wagga Wagga

Light refreshments provided. Please advise if childcare required.
