WHAT THIS BOOK IS ABOUT
From Marketing to Manufacturing the range of specialisations is quite diverse. Take a look...
Gone are the days, when an MBA or a PGDM meant Finance, Marketing, Human Resources or
Systems or Production in select colleges. When we began collating, the number of specialisations
that are on offer, the figure went beyond 100. If one adds the MBAs focussed on a vertical (Named
MBA programmes) like Infrastructure, Power or Oil &Gas, the number could easily cross 150. But
quite a few course offerings are similar in nature and hence to ease the student’s search we have
clubbed them too. We have finally arrived at around 42 different programmes on offer in the
country. They can be further grouped into ten major disciplines like Banking, Infrastructure, Finance,
Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Environment, Human Resources etc. Each individual profile presents a
bird’s eye view of the programme, the core subjects being taught, the skill sets imparted, the nature
of job prospects that one can expect and the type of organisations where they would be placed after
the completion of the programme. We also present a select list of institutions that offer the
specialisations or the Named MBA/PGDM programmes. Here’s a look....

19. Human Resource Management
All about people
With rapidly changing workplace and workforce, Human Resource Managers are the need of the
hour to not only train the employees according to the work environment but also deal with the
challenges
An employee’s experience in a company is greatly influenced by its Human Resource Manager who
can either make it or break it! He is the one who makes employees acquainted with the company’s
policies and ensures that they follow it while ensuring that they are in compliance with the
employment and labour laws. Altogether, an HR Manager manages the organisation’s workforce
from the time they are selected, recruited, trained till they are rewarded. In circumstances where
employees desire and are legally authorised to hold a collective bargaining agreement, a HR
Manager will typically also serve as the company’s primary liaison with the employees’
representatives (usually a labour union).
Now to handle such a great responsibility, it has become imperative to train students and make
them job-ready. A programme in HR management gives a student a strong foundation in HR best
practices. It helps them inculcate necessary skills and methods required to deal with the challenges
of today’s changing workplace.

FOR ASPIRING GLOBAL LEADERS
International Business programme aims at making you competent enough to work across cultures
As the name suggests, International Business is all about managing businesses globally. This profile

The need for such a specialisation within management education emerged as most companies in the

areas like e-commerce, market research, advertising, global operations have to be researched in
depth. So a student should be well-versed with the modes of operation used in various countries
what kind of a market exists in on different lands.
The key objective of a programme in International Business is to groom students to become global
leaders. The course will make students more competent to work across cultures and will also
incorporate attributes so that they are comfortable to work in unfamiliar markets. Students who
train as International Business Managers get to work in multinational corporations (MNCs) or other
kinds of businesses operation on foreign land. During the study programme, it becomes imperative
for the students to learn about various trade regulations related to import and export. Apart from
that, they have to build their communication skills too. Often students have to opt for an additional
foreign language course along with the regular programme so as to perform to their best when inthe field. It is advisable that when a student is choosing to go for a programme in International
Business, he or she should recognise the country they have interest in and then go ahead with
focusing on terms, language, regulations, policies and most feasible sectors in that country. While
doing so, students can consult specialists in the institute itself to get help in taking such complex
decisions.
One has to do enough research on the global market to succeed here
