F1-Quick & Easy Energy SavingsWhat can you do to begin saving energy in your building immediately? The savings that are within easy reach can be substantial – if you know where to look. This session will include a walkthrough of actual facilities and “instant assessment” of savings opportunities.
F2-Green Fleet ManagementThrough their choices in vehicles as well as the materials used in repair and maintenance, those involved in every level of fleet management can do much to preserve the environment. Learn about state and federal mandates, the best current and future vehicle options, and the Green Model Shop certification program.
F3-Recycling Master ClassWithin state government, some program managers have elevated the art of recycling to new levels. Learn about the innovative techniques that these masters of diversion and re-use are using to redefine the concept of “trash.”
T1-Your Building and Green Power Renewable energy technologies are essential to achieving state goals for energy efficiency and green-house gas reductions. What is the state of the art in renewable power options? Learn how to plan for current and future needs.
T2-Green Building AcademyPursuant to the Governor’s Green Building Executive Order, new state buildings and major renova-tions are to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. What are the standards for certification and what are the best ways to organize the process of achieving certification in a government context?
T3-Green Mandates – Your Responsibilities and How to Get ThereEvery department and agency is expected to comply with dozens of green mandates and regulations. What are these responsibilities in full, and how do you organize, measure and report on progress toward attaining them?
March 12, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
March 12, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and March 13, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Two-Day Classes Monday & Tuesday, March 12 & 13
One-Day Classes Monday, March 12 and Wednesday, March 14
F4-Benchmarking, Retro-Fitting and Retro-Commissioning All state-owned buildings are being assessed to determine their level of energy efficiency. What does the process of benchmarking involve? How do you determine what needs to be done to your building once the findings are in? What resources exist to help in this process?
F5-Green Purchasing Green purchasing starts with knowing how to correctly specify green products. From lighting require-ments to vehicles, each purchase has aspects that impact other areas. This session includes case examples of specifications created by the Department of General Services and the important elements to include in writing specifications for environmentally preferable products.
March 14, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
F6-Greening Information TechnologyFrom the materials they are made with, to their energy efficiency, to the ways that they are disposed of, computers and other electronic equipment are becoming more environmentally friendly – a reflection of new regulations as well as the developing green culture. What are the guidelines – and resources – for meeting the mandates for your IT program?
F7-Cultivating a Green Workplace“Working green” is anything but rote. It is a team-building process that involves changes in perspective toward materials, resources and even co-workers. How do you move from “we have to do this” to genu-ine enthusiasm about green responsibilities? Learn what has been successful in other state facilities.
F8-Green Power The road to cost savings, energy efficiency and renewable power may be shorter than you think. The future of green power is unfolding on California’s university campuses. Find out about these groundbreaking projects and the advanced technologies they are using. What’s available now? What’s coming in the near future?
F9-Building Green from the Ground UpYou’re starting with a clean slate. How do you ensure that you make the most of a green building op-portunity? How do you build the team you’ll need and determine what everyone involved in the process needs to know?
F10-Designing a Sustainable Indoor EnvironmentThose working in the green building field often speak of the ideal of a “living” structure. In addition to energy efficiency and the use of green materials, green buildings can provide a work environ-ment that improves health and productivity. Discover how to implement lighting plans, ventilation systems, interior design, green materials and other tools to create a healthy, sustainable and enjoy-able work environment.
