INT. FLORENCE HOUSE - DINNING ROOM - NIGHT

ABIGAIL FLORENCE, 18, tall and thin walks across the dinningroom. Her fingers caress the oak table as she strides by inthe darkness, guided by moonlight.

A faint TICK, TICK startles her and she turns around.Theres nothing there but tables and dish cabinets.

An OLD MANS weathered voice drifts around her.

OLD MAN (O.S.)You see it. You see it but yourefocusing on ignoring it. You dont

want to see it but its there.Its right there, where you never

want to look but cant help it.Its right there in the corner ofyour eye.

Abigail stands completely still and looks dead ahead. Afrightened MOANING sound comes from the shadows to her right.Her breath gets short, shes afraid.

OLD MAN (O.S.) (CONTD)You have to face it.

ABIGAILNo!

Abigail turns away from the moaning and the shadows and looksto the window. We see the reflection of a tall, dark figurelurching up behind her. It reaches for her neck.

INT. DOCTOR CASSIDYS OFFICE - DAY

Abigail wakes up with a shriek. DOCTOR CASSIDY, 60, dropshis metronome to the floor and rushes over to her.

CASSIDY (OLD MAN)Hey, hey! Its okay. Abigail,youre right here.

ABIGAILIm sorry Doctor.

CASSIDYIts okay. Dont worry. Hypnosiscan be jarring. Here, have some

water.

He points to the table. Abigail quickly grabs a glass ofwater and takes a big gulp.

CASSIDY (CONTD)See what I mean? It was like adream. Just like a dream.

ABIGAIL

It felt real.

Cassidy stands up and starts pacing around the couch, handsbehind his back.

CASSIDYDreams always feel real. You couldbe flying through space on a giantpink rabbit toward a chocolateplanet and itll seem real untilyou wake up. Then you forget.

ABIGAILWhy didnt I forget this?

CASSIDYBecause you snapped out of itpretty abruptly.

ABIGAILOkay.

Cassidy stops pacing and stands in front of the couch,looking down at Abigail.

CASSIDYNow what did you see?

ABIGAILI dont know. It was dark, Icouldnt see anything.

CASSIDYCome now, Abigail. What have webeen talking about all week?

ABIGAILI said I didnt see anything!

TICK, TICK.

CASSIDYDont lie to me god damn it!

Cassidy slaps her across the face.

INT. DOCTOR CASSIDYS OFFICE - NIGHT

Abigails eyes open. Shes lying on the couch. DoctorCassidy is sitting on the opposite side of the table with avoice recorder in his hand.

Doctor Cassidy turns it off then reaches over to the tableand stops the metronome.

Abigail slowly gets up and rubs her eyes. She looks at theglass of water on the table and then up at Doctor Cassidy.

CASSIDYIts okay, take a drink.

She grabs the glass and takes a small sip. She puts it downand looks back up at him, silently.

CASSIDY (CONTD)Do you remember?

ABIGAILThe dream?

CASSIDYYes.

Abigail nods her head.

CASSIDY (CONTD)

Do you want to talk about it?

She looks down at the flood and shakes her head.

CASSIDY (CONTD)Thats okay. Weve had quite a bigday today, wouldnt you agree?

Abigail nods.

CASSIDY (CONTD)Why dont you go on home now?

INT. FLORENCE HOUSE - BEDROOM - NIGHT

Abigail lies in her bed with a magazine propped up on herchest. She gets bored with it and drops it on the floor.

She gets up and walks over to her dresser to grab her phone.It reads, 1 MESSAGE.

Abigail goes back to the bed and listens to her voice mail.Its her boyfriend, JOE.

JOE (V.O.)Hey Abby. Howve you been? Kurtand I are going to see the midnightshowing of FATHER OF DARKNESS.Let me know if you want a ticket.

Bye.

Abigail calls Joe back.

ABIGAILJoe?

JOE (V.O.)Hey. You get my message?

ABIGAILYeah, I cant come. Sorry.

JOE (V.O.)Why not?

ABIGAILI have stuff to do.

JOE (V.O.)Seriously? What do you have to do?What have you had to do for thepast two weeks?

ABIGAIL

Maybe I just need a little time tomyself instead of having to baby-sit my obsessive, clingy boyfriend.

JOE (V.O.)Fine. Take all the time toyourself that you want.

ABIGAILJoe, wait! Im sorry. I dontknow why I said that.

JOE (V.O.)

Whats going on?

ABIGAILNothing.

JOEFine. Just keep ignoring me. Ivegot better things to do.

Joe hangs up. Abigail stomps over to the dresser and slamsthe phone down. She plugs the charger in, turns the lightoff and covers up in bed.

ABIGAIL

Asshole.

Abigail lies on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She closesher eyes and tries to sleep.

She opens her eyes and sees a shadowy figure inside her room,in front of the door. She stays perfectly still, holding herbreath.

The dark figure slowly walks to the bed, not making a soundat all. It reaches the side of the bed and looms overAbigail.

Abigail doesnt move. The figure is shaped like a person butis pitch black. Light doesnt even shine on it. Itsfeatureless head stares into her eyes.

Abigail whimpers. The whimpering turns into a moaning as thefigure reaches its hands down and pulls the sheet off. Shestrying to scream, call out something but all she can do is

whimper and moan. TICK, TICK.

The dark figure grabs her arms and pins her down. It bringsits head down just an inch from Abigails face.

INT. DOCTOR CASSIDYS OFFICE - NIGHT

Abigail is lying on the couch, face up. She is moaning andwhimpering.

CASSIDYYou can wake up now. You can wakeup now. Abigail! You can wake upnow!

Abigails eyes slowly open and the whimpering stops. Throughsome sleepy effort, she sits up and faces the doctor.

Doctor Cassidy stops the metronome. He gets up and fills aglass with water.

CASSIDY (CONTD)I see youre so stubborn you canteven follow my directions underhypnosis.

He drops the glass onto the table with bitter force. Thundergoes off.

CASSIDY (CONTD)Wait here. I need to go roll up my

windows. Ill be right back.

Doctor Cassidy storms out of the office and leaves Abigail

alone. She drinks her water and waits.

The thunder gets louder. Abigail gets more nervous as timepasses. A bright bolt of lightning illuminates the room andthe power goes off.

Abigail stands up and faces the door.

ABIGAILDoctor? Doctor, where are you?

She cautiously makes her way to the door and steps out of theoffice.

RECEPTION

Abigail walks around the corner into the reception room andspots Doctor Cassidy standing in front of a twelve-year-oldgirl on the bench. Its Abigails sister, SARAH. DoctorCassidy turns to face Abigail.

CASSIDYWhat did I say?

ABIGAIL

What?

CASSIDYWhat did I say? Didnt I tell youto wait there?

Doctor Cassidy furiously marches up to Abigail.

ABIGAILIs that my sister?

Doctor Cassidy grabs her by the shoulders and pins her upagainst the wall.

CASSIDYHow many times do I have to fuckingtell you to do what I say?

Tears roll down her face. Abigail tries to look away. TICK,TICK.

INT. CASSIDYS OFFICE - DAY

Abigail quickly sits up on the couch. A glass of water iswaiting for her on the table. Cassidy stops his metronome.

CASSIDYYou felt helpless, didnt you?

Abigail drinks her water and nods her head.

CASSIDY (CONTD)In times that we feel like theresno hope, theres nothing you cando, its okay to rely on otherpeople. You have a boyfriend,dont you?

ABIGAILI havent seen him in a while.

CASSIDYWhat about your friends?

ABIGAILI havent seen them in a while.

CASSIDYDont shut everybody out. Youcant face everything alone.Somebody elses courage can give

you strength.


Abigail is sitting at her desk browsing the internet on herlaptop. JOE, 18, short and handsome sits on the bed.

JOEHow far away is this school youregoing to?

ABIGAIL

Its about a two hour drive downthe interstate.

JOEThats not that bad. I should beable to afford a new car by winter.I can visit all the time, then.

ABIGAILWhy are you going to communitycollege? Why didnt you just signup for State with me?

JOEIm not paying five thousanddollars on regular math, scienceand English classes. Ill transferin two years. And come on, itshigh school with ash trays. Youhave any idea how easy thats goingto be?

Abigail laughs.

JOE (CONTD)Im glad youve finally lightenedup.

ABIGAILYeah. My doctor said it would helpif I stopped shutting everybodyout.

JOEDoctor? Doctor who?

They hear a scream from outside the room.

ABIGAILThat was Sarah!

Abigail rushes out of her bedroom.

HALLWAY

Abigail runs to Sarahs room and opens the door. The lightis on but nobodys in it.

ABIGAIL (CONTD)Sarah? Sarah whered you go? Whathappened? Sarah?

Abigail makes her way back to her bedroom and looks in. Joeis gone.

ABIGAIL (CONTD)What the hell? Joe, what the hell?

Abigail walks down the stairs.

DINNING ROOM

Abigail walks into the dinning room and flicks the lightswitch. The light wont turn on.

ABIGAIL (CONTD)This isnt funny, you guys. Its

over between us Joe, okay? Imserious. Joe? Sarah?

She looks around and heads for the hallway opposite thewindows. She stops dead in her tracks just before turningthe corner into the hallway.

The dark figure walks out and faces her. Abigail backs up.

ABIGAIL (CONTD)Please, just leave me alone.Please.

Abigail turns around and runs away.

BEDROOM

Abigail sneaks into her bedroom and quietly closes the doorbehind her.

She turns the light off and climbs into the closet. Sheshuts the door and tries to keep quiet.

Moments pass as Abigail hides in the dark, cramped closet.The door slowly swings open. The dark figure is standing

right in front of her.

Abigail starts to cry. The dark figure gets closer. Shetries to look away, whimpering.

The dark figures hands reach out and its long fingers slideacross Abigails neck. TICK, TICK.

INT. DOCTOR CASSIDYS OFFICE - DAY

Abigail immediately jumps up from the couch and walks over tothe window. Cassidy stops the metronome and follows her.

CASSIDYAbigail, are you okay?

ABIGAILYeah. Im fine now.

CASSIDYYou certainly dont look fine.

Abigails hands are shaking.

CASSIDY (CONTD)Let me get you a glass of water.

Doctor Cassidy fills a glass up with water and brings it overto Abigail. Abigail sets it down on the window sill.

ABIGAILIm tired of being afraid.

CASSIDYWell, you should be. Fear wearsthe body down considerably. Itspoisonous.

ABIGAILHow can I stop it?

CASSIDYBy acting, Abigail. By doingsomething. You cant just keephiding. You cant hide from this.Sometimes you just have to fightback and once you do, the fear

wont take hold of you quite aseasily. It will make you stronger,Abigail.

ABIGAILI dont know who I can trust.

CASSIDYYou know who you cant trust.Thats a good start.

ABIGAILAm I ready?

CASSIDYAre your hands still shaking?

ABIGAILNo.

CASSIDYThen I say youre good enough.Its time to go home.

Abigail walks over to the door, stops and waves at DoctorCassidy. He smiles back. She opens the door.

Abigail wakes up and climbs out of bed. She opens her doorand peeks out into the dark hallway. Theres nothing outthere.

She walks over to the desk and grabs her cell phone. Shechecks it to make sure its on and she has reception then

walks out of the room.

HALLWAY

Abigail creeps down the hall to Sarahs room. She nudges thedoor open and peaks inside.

Nobody is inside. The sheets have been pulled from the bed.A glass of water has been spilled on the floor.

Abigail stands there for a few seconds looking at the stairs.She takes a deep breath and moves forward.

DINNING ROOM

Abigail sneaks into the dinning room. She sidles along thewall opposite the windows and moves to the hallway.

Abigail hears a little girls crying down the hall. Shetakes a quick peak and then moves back and hides in thecorner.

Abigail dials 911 on her cellphone. The OPERATOR answers.

OPERATOR911 what is your emergency andlocation?

ABIGAIL(Whispering)

You have to send the cops to 1231Lake Avenue. My dad is raping mylittle sister. Shes twelve.

OPERATOR

Were sending someone over rightnow. Can you get out of the house,safely?

ABIGAILYeah.

OPERATORGo outside and wait on the frontlawn. The police will be theresoon.

EXT. FLORENCE HOUSE - NIGHT

Four police cruisers are parked in front of the house alongwith an ambulance. Red and blue lights flicker all over.Abigail sits on the front steps by the sidewalk in front of a

police car.

A POLICE WOMAN walks over to Abigail and wraps a blanketaround her.

POLICE WOMANYou and your sister are going to besafe now. I just want you to knowthat what you did was very brave.This kind of situation can beterrifying. All of us that showedup tonight are proud of you, kid.

ABIGAILThanks.

The Police Woman sits down next to her.
