A Word from Our Principal:

Dr. Kacy Seals

Our students have been practicing for a performance in remembrance of Maya Angelou and her poem entitled,

“Still I Rise.” This poem is sentimental and special in many ways. It is the representation of the courage and strength

that our young people demonstrate daily. It is the metaphor for their own personal journeys. The challenges that our young people face are stepping stones for what

the future holds for them. Encouraging and supporting our young people to rise in the midst of challenges is our

charge. The CVPA staff is committed to serving our young people by pushing them beyond their limits academically

and socially. We thank you for trusting us in helping to shape and mold your young person: one student at a time.

(Excerpt from “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou)

Out of the huts of history's shame I rise

Up from a past that's rooted in pain I rise

I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise

Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear I rise

Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave.

I rise I rise I rise.
