To retain a key employee the company and its

management team must provide an environment

that is productive and comfortable for its employ-

ees to perform. There are many ways to retain an

employee including:

-Clearly explain and advise what is expected

from the employee every day at work

-Quality of supervisors matches the organiza-

tions goals and vision.

-Provide an environment where an employee

can voice their concerns without being

ridiculed or victimized.

-Place an employee in a position that best fits

their career objectives, knowledge/skills.

-Exemplify fair treatment.

-Provide relevant training programs.

-Acknowledgement from management of

how the employee is performing on a

consistent basis whether bad or good.

-Identify and address employee needs.

-Allow anonymous feedback.

-Create a fun environment.

-Compensate and place employees in posi-

tions commensurate with their academic

backgrounds.

-Pay attention to employees, not only at the

hiring interview but once they are selected and

are employed by the Company

-Today, the average professional has in place,

career goals and objectives that he intends to

achieve. It is imperative that ‘persons in

charge’ discuss with each employee the desired

training and career path for the specific role

that he may fill. Often times, this conversation

is left for the exit interview, which is too late.

-Periodic evaluations should be in place for

efficiency and an employee’s attitude toward

his role and the company as a whole

- Periodic discussions of employee goals, both

long term and short term, along with provision

of the tools needed to complete them success-

fully.

-Value the employee’s work experience, skills

and knowledge

- For smaller companies with less room for

growth for professionals, the implementation

of tiers (e.g. engineer 1 , 2 and 3) for each de-

partment can provide employees with a means

of reward and recognition that can reinforce

their performance and hard work.

Provide good benefits,

good working conditions,

a safe and healthy envi-

ronment

Provide opportunities for

advancement (upward or

lateral)

Provide managers and

supervisors with relevant

training, to have a con-

science and a heart hold

them accountable.

Oliver, Manager CR

Practice makes progress.

Chipping away at an unfinished project

or striving to adopt a positive new habit

may at times leave me feeling disheart-

ened. I may even want to throw in the

towel. To stay encouraged, I remind

myself: Practice makes perfect. Or, bet-

ter yet: Practice makes progress!

Rather than trying to be perfect, I prac-

tice to keep moving in the right direc-

tion. Every bit of progress is good, even

if it falls short of perfection. The affir-

mation, Practice makes progress, keeps

me motivated and gives me the energy

boost to keep going.

I continue taking small yet significant

steps without stress or discouragement,

and I feel a growing sense of accom-

plishment. Practice really does make

great progress!

Put these things into practice, devote

yourself to them, so that all may see

your progress.—1 Timothy 4:15

The choice to lead True, effective leaders do not demand or proclaim or intimi-

date. They encourage, inspire and lead by example.

True leaders become leaders not because of their titles, but

because of their work. Real leaders have no need to make

promises, because it is already obvious to everyone that they

get results.

The world can always benefit from more good, effective lead-

ers. You can make the choice to be one.

Leadership is difficult and demanding, and often a thankless

job. Yet without honest, authentic, effective leadership, the

world would devolve into chaos.

The job of a real leader is not to tell people what to do. The

job of a real leader is to enable each and every person to be his

or her absolute best, and to point all those people in a positive

direction.

You don’t need anyone’s permission to be a leader. All you

have to do is to genuinely and respectfully make a positive

difference in the lives of others.

Just a reminder to all: purchase a box, keep one in your car, pock-

etbook, wallet, bedside, etc.

Bayer is making crystal aspirin to dissolve under the tongue. They work much faster than the

tablets. Why keep aspirin by your bedside?

There are other symptoms of an heart attack besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be

aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating,

however these symptoms may also occur less frequently. Note: There may be NO pain in the chest

during a heart attack .The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep,

did not wake up. However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep. If

that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of wa-

ter. Afterwards: CALL 911 - say "heart attack!" - say that you have taken 2 aspirins.. - phone a

neighbor or a family member who lives very close by and sit in a chair.

GOOD GOSSIP FROM ABOVE IS THE GREATEST WORD OF ALL. Look back and thank God.

Look forward and trust God.

Look around and serve God.

Look within and find God!"

Who wouldn't forward it!!!

God closes doors no man can open and

God opens doors no man can close.

If you need God to open some doors for you...

send this to ten people including me, and if you don't need

God to open some doors for you, just delete it. Without God our week would be: Sinday, Mournday, Tearsday,

Wasteday, Thirstday, Fightday & Shatterday.

If you are not ashamed of God pass it on ........

Why sitting all day is killing you

(MoneyWatch) Warnings about the adverse health impact of sedentary workplace behaviors have

been all over the news lately. For instance, sitting more than six hours per day makes you 40 percent

likelier to die within 15 years than someone who sits less than three hours, according to one recent

infographic -- even if you exercise.

What's wrong with sitting? The effects of spending too much time in a chair are manifold. Electrical

activity in leg muscles shuts down; your body effectively stops burning calories; enzymes that break

down fat drop by 90 percent; HDL cholesterol production drops by 20 percent; and the risk of dia-

betes increases 24 percent.

According to the BBC, scientists say that reducing your sitting time to three hours a day can add

two years to your life expectancy. And it's not just sitting that's a problem, apparently -- any posi-

tion that you adopt for long periods of time can have risks:

Adopting any one posture for a long time is bad, says Jane White from the Institution of Occupational Safety

and Health. "Some of the [Metropolitan Police Service officers] recently collapsed at a passing out ceremony

from standing up for too long. It's being static that's the health issue -- it slows down the circulatory system,

blood, oxygen, and vital nutrients."

That's great to know, but the reality is that you probably have a traditional desk and swivel chair.

Your options are limited. What can you do? Quite a bit, actually. Here are some small ways to im-

prove your ergonomics:

- Ask your company whether it will invest in a stand-up desk for you. Some businesses will,

especially if you provide a note from your doctor.

- Stand whenever you can. If you're not typing at your PC, work standing up. You can stand to

take phone calls, for example.

- Hold walking meetings. My manager and I recently started conducting our weekly meetings out-

doors by taking a long walk between our office and the beach (and back again). Not everyone is sit-

uated in scenic Santa Monica, Calif., of course, but walking somewhere while you talk business can

be a good thing.

- Hold standing meetings. This may have the added benefit of making gatherings shorter, which is

great because everyone hates long meetings.

Some Senior Thoughts

God grant me the senility to forget the people I

never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones

I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Now that I'm older here's what I've discovered:

1. I started out with nothing, and I still have

most of it.

2. My wild oats have turned into prunes and all-

bran.

3. I finally got my head together, and now my

body is falling apart.

4. Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.

5. Funny, I don't remember being absent-minded.

6. If all is not lost, where is it?

7. It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.

8. Some days, you're the dog; some days you're

the hydrant.

9. I wish the buck stopped here; I sure could use a

few.

10. Kids in the back seat cause accidents.

11. Accidents in the back seat cause kids.

12. It's hard to make a comeback when you have-

n't been anywhere.

13. The only time the world beats a path to your

door is when you're in the bathroom.

14. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he'd have

put them on my knees.

15. When I'm finally holding all the cards, why

does everyone want to play chess?

16. It’s not hard to meet expenses...they're every-

where.

17. The only difference between a rut and a grave

is the depth.

18. These days, I spend a lot of time thinking

about the hereafter...I go somewhere to get some-

thing and then wonder what I'm here after.

19. Funny, I don't remember being absent-

minded.

20. I'M UNABLE TO REMEMBER WHETHER

I'VE SENT YOU THIS BEFORE.

I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the drive-

way, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.. As I start

toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought

up from the mail box earlier. I decide to go through the mail be-

fore I wash the car. I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk

mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is

full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the

garbage first... But then I think, since I'm going to be near the

mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay

the bills first. I take my cheque book off the table, and see that

there is only one cheque left. My extra cheques are in my desk in

the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can

of Pepsi I'd been drinking.. I'm going to look for my cheques, but

first I need to push the Pepsi aside so that I don't accidentally

knock it over. catches my eye--they need water. catches my eye--

they need water. I put the Pepsi on the counter and discover my

reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I

better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the

flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with

water and suddenly spot the TV remote. Someone left it on the

kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV,

I'll be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on

the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it

belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the

floor. So, I set the remote back on the table, get some towels and

wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to

remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day:

the car isn't washed the bills aren't paid there is a warm can of

Pepsi sitting on the counter the flowers don't have enough water,

there is still only 1 check in my cheque book, I can't find the re-

mote, I can't find my glasses, and I don't remember what I did

with the car keys Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got

done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day,

and I'm really tired. I realize this is a serious problem,

and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Information and Jokes

Blonde MEN Jokes Two blond men find three grenades, and they decide to take them to a police

station. One asked: "What if one explodes before we get there?" The other

says: "We'll lie and say we only found two."

A blonde man is in the bathroom and his wife shouts: "Did you find the sham-

poo?" He answers, "Yes, but I'm not sure what to do... it's for dry hair, and

I've just wet mine."

A blonde man goes to the vet with his goldfish. "I think it's got epilepsy," he

tells the vet. The vet takes a look and says, "It seems calm enough to me." The

blonde man says, "Wait, I haven't taken it out of the bowl yet."

Safety Tips Women have a tendency to get into their cars

after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit

(doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc.

DON'T DO THIS!)

The predator will be watching you, and this

is the perfect opportunity for him to get in

on the passenger side, put a gun to your head,

and tell you where to go.

AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR ,

LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE..

If someone is in the car with a gun to your head

DO NOT DRIVE OFF, Repeat:

DO NOT DRIVE OFF!

Instead gun the engine and

speed into anything, wrecking the car.

Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the

back seat they will get the worst of it. As soon as

the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than

having them find your body in a remote location.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

This year, in addition to your usual two prom-

weight, work with me on overcoming some of

Fraud & Dishonesty

HR TIDBITS—DID YOU KNOW….

HEALTH AND SAFETY IN THE WORKPLACE

It is imperative that the Company ensures that we have

a healthy and safe environment. It does this in many

ways—from ensuring the temperature in the building

is acceptable, providing proper ventilation and light-

ing, ensuring hallways are not cluttered or cleaning up

water or other liquids on the floor that can cause acci-

dents, storage\ing or disposing of toxic and inflamma-

ble materials, etc.

Employees must also actin a manner conducive to

healthy and safe work habits, behaviours and attitudes..

They should obey and abide by the Company’s poli-

cies, procedures, and guidelines which are in place to

assist them in the proper handling of their duties, fol-

lowing established steps and controls and provided for

their own well-being and safety and fellow employees.

The above relates but is not limited to Accidents on the

job, CPR and First Aid, Fire Drills, Grievances and

Suggestions handling, Housekeeping, Security, Smok-

ing, and Substance abuse.

If in doubt, contact your manager first and also ask for

HR’s input and guidance.

The NO COMPLAINING RULE:

THE COMPLAINING FAST

1. Establish a non-complaining day (FAST). It causes

you to monitor your thoughts and realize how nega-

tive you really are. Then go for a week, a month

and then a year. Like quitting any bad habit, it’s

one day at a time. You will be shocked

at what comes out of your mouth and

pops in your head.

CHANGE BEGINS WITH YOU!!

There are many potential sources of loss due to acts of fraud and dishon-

esty , apart from the dishonest acts of employees which form the subject

of fidelity guarantee insurance.

Cheque Writing and Signing Machine Indemnity Insurance can be provided to cover losses due to the unauthorized use of

such machines or the fraudulent alteration of cheques. Cover is on an

annual basis with an agreed limit of indemnity for any one cheque and an

aggregate limit for any one year. The premium depends on the total value

of cheques passing through the machine.

Forged Transfer Indemnities If company shares or stocks are transferred from one name to another due

to the production of forged documents or fraudulent computer instruc-

tions , the registrar and the issuing company may be liable for losses in-

curred by the real owner. An annual insurance policy can be obtained for

the benefit of a professional registrar or corporation to provide an indem-

nity against such losses.

Fraudulent Withdrawals and Forged Signatures Institutions such as banks may seek an indemnity against payments being

made to persons fraudulently withdrawing sums from accounts. Insur-

ance is arranged on an annual basis with an adjustable premium based on

total withdrawals each year. Cover is subject to a limit of indemnity

against any one act and an aggregate limit in any one year.

Direct Debiting Indemnity

A company often collects regular payments from a customer through a

direct debit from a customer’s account. Before a company is allowed to

use this facility it must agree to indemnify the banks participating in the

system against any loss that may be suffered by them as a result.

A direct debiting indemnity covers the legal liability of the company un-

der the indemnity to the banks excluding claims arising as a result of

fraud or dishonesty on the part of the insured, their employees or agents.

Premiums vary depending on the amount collected by direct debit and the

limit of indemnity required. Such policies do not cover loss of interest

and administrative charges.
