When Saved? James 2:14-26

What kind of faith saves us? Faith _________________ works? Vs. 14-17 What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone who had need. Acts 2:44-45 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything. Acts 4:32 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:10 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Faith _____________________ works? Vs. 18, 19 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds. Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” Some men came down from Judea to Antioch and were teaching the brothers: “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom taught by Moses, you cannot be saved.” Acts 15:1

Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses.” Acts 15:5 When they had finished, James spoke up: “Brothers, listen to me….” Galatians 2:11-16

Faith ______________________ works. Vs. 20-25 You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

How then shall we act by faith?

James gives us two examples of faith that saves: Abraham and Rahab p_________ p_________ Jew Gentile m_______ f_________ b________ the Law w_________the Law. “credited to him as righteousness” “considered righteous” “what he did” “what she did” Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. Abraham’s saving faith R________ of faith F_________ of faith Believed God Offered his son Isaac Genesis 15 p_______ of faith Genesis 22 the p_________ of faith H___________ Scripture F__________ Scripture

Abraham’s faith “was made complete” means to “c________ to the e_______.” Faith is a r______________. Abraham is “called God’s friend”

Justified means is a judicial term that means “to declare righteous”. Justification is an act of God whereby He declares the believing sinner righteous in Christ on the basis of the finished work of Christ on the Cross. In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

Rahab’s saving faith The c____________ The e____________ Hears the truth about God Welcomes the spies Joshua 2:10–12 Hebrews 11:31 “considered righteous” “what she did” As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
