Red is the color of the blood that He shed, Brown is for the crown of thorns they placed upon His head: Blue is for royalty, which in Him did dwell, And yellows for the Christian, who’s afraid to tell. I ate them, and I ate them, till my jelly beans were all gone, But though I’ve grown much older now, the mem’ry lingers on. Afraid to tell of a Saviour who died on Calvary, He died for lowly sinners just like you and me. And someday He is coming back to be our Holy King, And we can sing about the colors of the jelly bean. When I was just a lit tle child, no higher than your knee,

One Easter day, I got a bag of jelly beans, just for me.

I picked ‘em up, I opened ‘em up, and looked way down inside,

And the colors there reminded me of Jesus when He died.

Green is the color of the palm leaves at His feet,

White is for the life He lived that Satan could not beat.

Red is the color of the blood that He shed,

Brown is for the crown of thorns they placed upon His head:

Blue is for royalty, which in Him did dwell,

And yellows for the Christian, who’s afraid to tell.

I ate them, and I ate them, till my jelly beans were all gone,

But though I’ve grown much older now, the mem’ry lingers on.

So when an Easter Sunday comes, and jelly beans I see,

I tell the children of my Lord, who died and rose for me.

Afraid to tell of a Saviour who died on Calvary,

He died for lowly sinners just like you and me.

And someday He is coming back to be our Holy King,

And we can sing about the colors of the jelly bean.

Green is the color of the palm leaves at His feet,
