SHEPHERD’S CORNER

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

The Gospel story today is a simple story about

two people. The one is a poor man named

Lazarus, who is in dire need. The other is a rich

man, in a position to help Lazarus in his need.

The needs of the poor man are small, and it

would take very little for the rich man to help

him. Unfortunately, the rich man never got

around to helping Lazarus.

The sin for which the rich man suffers after he

dies is not that he ordered Lazarus off his

property. It is not that he kicked him each time

he passed him. It is not that he yelled at him

whenever he saw him.

The sin for which the rich man suffers is simply

that he paid no attention to Lazarus. The sin is

not a sin of commission but a sin of omission,

not doing something he should have done to help

Lazarus.

Each one of us sees the story of Lazarus being

repeated every day in our society. And each one

of us is concerned about what this is saying

about our society. And we have a growing

tendency to place our priorities on things rather

than on people, especially needy people.

Instead of closing our eyes to the situation or

cursing the darkness caused by the situation, we

can light a candle or even be that candle and

become part of the solution and not the problem.

Your brother in Christ,

Deacon Henry

Community Life

Welcome to St. Michael’s! If you are visiting with us this

weekend, or have been away from the Church for a while, we invite you to become an active part of our parish community. Registration forms may be found in the bulletin racks. Please fill one out and return it to the Parish Office or drop it in the collection basket. We encourage all to share fully in the life of the parish by being actively involved in our ministries and being faithful stewards of time, talent and treasure. Please prayerfully consider how God is calling you to proclaim the Good News in our parish community. If you have a change of address or phone number or are moving out of the parish, please notify the Parish Office as soon as possible. Also, when adult children turn 18, they should register under their own names as soon as possible. If you are not Roman Catholic, please know that you are most welcome. While we are unable to extend an invitation to our non-Catholic brothers and sisters to receive Holy Communion, please feel free to come forward at Communion time and ask for a blessing. Bienvenidos a San Miguel!

An update from Archbishop Lori . . . . In July of 2015 Archbishop Lori met with leaders of all the parishes of the Archdiocese to set us on a path that would lead to a diocese of Missionary Disciples. After a year of praying, studying and planning the Archbishop is ready to share with us some of those plans which will bring about changes in the Archdiocese. A copy of the document “An Update From

Archbishop William E. Lori on Evangelization-based Parish and School Planning” can be found on all the Welcome Tables of the Church. Please study it carefully and keep our priests in your prayers and they meet with Archbishop Lori this week to discuss the next steps in Pastorate planning.
