SHOVELS & STANDARDS

Remove all parts from the carton and identify as shown in Fig. 1.

Attach the nine shovels to the nine standards (seven long and two short) using the nine plow bolts (#8) and nine %-16 nuts (#9).

FRONT FRAME ( Fig. 2, 3 & 4)

To install the front frame to the tractor, first lower the attachment lift and open the mid Tach-a-matic hitch. Working from the right side of the tractor, slide the front frame under the unit aligning the tractor's lift pin with the slotted hole in the front frame (Fig. 2). Raise the frame into the hitch plates and close the hitch (Fig. 3).

FIG. 3. Mid Hitch

Raise the attachment lift. Using four clamp assemblies (#3) attach the two short standards inside the welded support bars. Install two long standards outside of the tractor's running board. See Fig. 4 for correct spacing. BE SURE THE CLAMP SET SCREWS ARE TIGHT.

REAR FRAME (Fig. 4 & 5)

I·f the tractor is equipped with a slot hitch, insert the tongue of the rear frame into the hitch and secure with the tool pin.

When a clevis hitch is employed, attach the rear frame as shown in Fig. 5. Tighten the hex bolts on the hitch until the frame is rigid with the hitch.

Install the five remaining standards using the five remaining clamp assemblies. See Fig. 4 for correc! spacing. BE SURE THE CLAMP SET SCREWS ARE TIGHT.

INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL (Fig. 2, 3 & 5)

After the initial installation and assembly, the cultivator can be installed or removed easily, without the use of tools.

To install the front frame, slide the front frame assembly under the tractor from the right side. Align the tractor lift pin with the slotted hole. (Fig. 2). Open the mid Tach-a-matic hitch. Raise the front frame into the hitch plates and close the hitch (Fig. 3).

Attach the rear frame to the rear slot, or clevis type hitch.

To remove, simply follow the installation instructions in a reverse order.

1972 AND PRIOR LONG FRAME TRACTORS

On older model tractors, hook the end of the special lift rod (No. 104650) in the hole of the lift bar pivot arm of the front frame assembly and secure with a hairpin. Attach the other end of the lift rod to the tractor lift bar with the trunnion and other hairpin, using the nut to adjust the lift action by moving the trunnion back on the lift rod.

OPERATION

For normal use the cultivator should be set to cultivate 2" to 3" deep. This setting is usually adequate for cutting weeds. Greater depths can cause the soil to dry out.

Under extreme conditions when working hard soil, pressure may be applied to the front shovels by resting your feet on the frame. Weights may be added to the rear frame as desired.

Decide whether to cultivate between the rows or to straddle them.

When straddling rows eliminate the center shovel on the rear frame and place the two middle shovels on the front frame on each side of the row. Do not place shovels too close to the row or plant roots may be cut.
