Artistic ProgramSeason 2012The Music Chapel wishes to bolster its communication to its public by publishing a bimonthly agenda of concerts and productions involving young musicians who are currently in residence or who have been in the past: the alumni! This initiative should enable us to monitor our career development activities more closely – activities that are closely related to the training imparted by the masters in residence and their teaching staff. We are delighted with the rich and varied program of this inaugural publication, which features:

• Public master classes by four of our masters in residence: Augustin Dumay, Artemis Quartet, Abdel Rahman El Bacha & Gary Hoffman.

• The presence of our young musicians in partner venues: Bozar, Flagey, the Sta- velot Cultural Centre, the Musical Instruments Museum, the House of Music, etc.

• Concerts by our young soloists with orchestras, with which we work together regularly: Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie, Orchestre National de Lille, Bruoscella Symphony Orchestra or Kansai Orchestra in Japan.

• And to conclude with productions or co-productions, we would like to recom- mend in particular:

The YES concert on 7 March at the Brussels conservatoire, the first concert that brings together young singers from certain European Partners of the Euro- pean Network of Opera Academies (ENOA) network for a vocal and chamber music program.

The Mozart Prelude concert, in co-production with Flagey, featuring some of our candidates for Queen Elisabeth Competition in their Mozart concertos.

The Music Chapel is more than ever emerging as an important stakeholder on the music stage. We will be delighted to see you in large numbers around these young talents during all the musical activities of the next two months.

YESA word that resonates in everyone’s ear as a sign of hope….Hope, youth, and sharing through a universal language: music...

In 2009, at the initiative of Bernard Foccroulle, the current General Manager of the Aix Festival, some ten voice schools and academies, opera houses, or summer fes-tivals pooled forces to examine the possibility of establishing a network throughout Europe for: Young talent in all aspects of opera through specialised workshops; and New opera productions. In the beginning of 2011, the European Network of Opera Academies or ENOA, received a European subsidy of €2,500,000 over 5 years via all the founding members of the network, which will make it possible to hold 80 work-shops and ten or so productions (more than 1,000 people will move through Europe during these five years). The Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, a founding member of the ENOA, along with the Warsaw Opera, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Gulben-kian Foundation and the Theater Academie of Munich and many others,… comes forth with its Opera Studio (in partnership with the Monnaie Opera House) and its young singers under the direction of José van Dam. ENOA will enable young sing-ers in residence at the Music Chapel to be introduced to a formidable European network, to participate in many workshops through the network’s partners, and to take part in new opera productions… Our best singers will thus be featured in YES, a new concert network for the best young voices at present, for after all, YES stands for Young European Singers. They will come from all over Europe as well as from the Music Chapel on March 7th to Brussels for an inaugural concert of the YES series in a Chamber Music and Voice programme!

Mozart Prelude

An immersion in classicism: that’s the programme of the traditional Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel Mozart Prelude in March. This year, the violin takes centre stage, with two of the five concertos written by Mozart for this instrument. By the same author, an aria for soprano and orchestra that casts doubt on masculine fidelity and brings a witty touch to this programme. And finally, make way for the cello, with a concerto by Haydn that the composer wrote in 1783, one year before meeting Mozart. Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart be-came friends despite their twenty-four-year age difference. And although Mozart no longer needed one at this time, he considered “Papa Haydn” his mentor. A fine example of ‘apprenticeship’, which is also the watchword of the Queen Elisabeth Mu-sic Chapel.

Music & ManagementQueen Elisabeth Music Chapel

29.03.12 - 14:30 to 23:00

For over 7 years, Mentally Fit Institute, a company spe-cialised in mental coaching originating from the sports and the business worlds, has supported the Music Cha-pel to express the talent of the soloists and members of the chamber music groups. From the conjunction of these two worlds radiate the universal ingredients of the development of talent and excellence. Alain Goudsmet, General Manager of Mentally Fit Institute, Kevin Jackson, specialist of the business world and Augustin Dumay, Music Master of the Queen Elisa-beth Music Chapel, will present the ingredients to de-tect, develop and maintain the talent of individuals and teams:

• What can we learn about leadership through the orchestra conductor’s role?• What can we learn from the most performing musicians?• How to create thebest context todevelop talent? • How to transform talent in durable performance? • How to transform individual talent in collective projects?
