Welcome…to our Spring programme! We kick things off withsome family events for the Easter break with thewonderful Three Colours and Adventures from theOdyssey as part of the Puppet Animation Festival, whilstwe also host some high-energy storytelling fun with It's inthe Bag. April also sees the return of Theatre Objectiv'sfantastic production Wojtek the Bear, which tells the true story of thePolish soldier bear.

We're delighted to be a central part of Tradfest Edinburgh again thisyear 29 Apr - 11 May, celebrating the traditional arts all acrossEdinburgh. The full programme is available now and there are somereally exciting events happening! The Centre hosts a huge variety ofevents across the Festival, so be sure to get involved.

In June, we embark on an exciting and ambitious celebration of the700 year anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn. The Centre will betransformed into a living, breathing battleground of live storytelling,epic mural painting and fancy dress Ceilidh, with contributions fromstorytellers and artists from all over Scotland, all hosted by Robert theBruce himself… (well, not really). We also have a packed programmeof Courses and Workshops, for those wishing to engage withstorytelling and the traditional arts.

We hope you will find lots to enjoy in this programme. As always, ourCafé is open for refreshments, our book shop is stocked high and ourstaff are ready to greet you with a smile!

A celebration of the life andwork of Robert McLellan - 'thegreatest writer of Scots prosein the twentieth century' (JKAnnand) - to launch the firstmajor collection of his drama,Playing Scotland's Story. Theevent includes an overview ofMcLellan's achievement by

novelist James Robertson, with an open paneldiscussion by the people who brought thislandmark book into being - Heather Gough ofArran Theatre Trust, Colin Donati (editor),Douglas Gifford, Donald Campbell and AlastairCording. There will also be a short performedreading from a McLellan playscript by membersof Theatre Alba.

Tir Fada is Greece’s top Gaelic/Irishtroupe combining traditional Greekmusic and dance with Celtic traditions.This is a rare opportunity to be at themeeting point between two vigorousfolk cultures. TRADFEST brings Scotland's arts of tradition into the heartof the capital city. For thirteen days the city will be a hive of music,song, storytelling, dance, crafts, folk drama, and environmentalcelebrations for Mayday/Beltane. The Storytelling Centre isdelighted to be a main venue, hosting many great events!

TheatreObjektiv's award winning production tells the extraordinarystory of Wojtek, the Polish soldier bear, who fought atMonte Cassino and died in Edinburgh Zoo. The journey takesus from war-torn Poland, through the Soviet slave campsand the Middle East, into the battle of Monte Cassino and,finally, to post-war Scotland. With Wojtek and his "mother",Polish soldier Piotr, a Gulag survivor, we travel through warand peace.

Fri 16 May | 2pm (2hrs 30) | £18 (£15 Network members) | Music & Song Sheena Wellington: Teaching through Song Sheena Wellington demonstrates how listening to and learning songs can open up the social andcommunity histories of Scotland for both adults and young people. Sheena herself 'learned throughsangs', and would like to encourage educators, artists, parents, community workers and volunteersof all kinds to celebrate their identity and experiences through song. Ideal for singers andeducators.

Ailie Findlay of Flotsam & Jetsamshares her skills and experience of stories in context.

Fri 19 - Sun 22 Jun | Weekend Event | £195 | StorytellingBardic Journey to SkyeDeparting from central Edinburgh at 10am on Friday, the trail follows the story of Gaelic poetry andculture through the Highlands by the Trossachs, Inveroran, Glencoe and Keppoch, all the way toGlendale in northwest Skye. Arriving on Friday evening, the group joins a Saturday of talks, walksand ceilidh, returning to Edinburgh on the evening of Sunday 22nd by way of Skye's St Columba'sIsle. Led by George MacPherson, the Seanchaidh of Glendale, and Donald Smith. The price includestwo nights' accommodation, two evening meals, and all transport.
