SAPL Play Reading Come and join in a play reading session! We will be reading the Victorian melodrama ‘Maria Marten and the Red Barn’, based on a true story from 1820s Suffolk, featuring a beautiful young village girl, a dastardly young gent, a baby, a gun and a bottle marked POISON. We hope that you’ll join us for drinks and discussion at the pub afterwards. Collect a flyer from the library and turn up ready for ham! Monday 13th May, 5.00 to 6.45pm Alexandra Park Library Creative Writing Competition Take part in our poetry/prose writing competition which runs until the end of May. Based on the theme ‘London Journey’, the competition will be judged in June with winners and runners-up being invited to give a public reading at the library. Since places are limited, please book with the library. Parkinson’s Community Coffee Club A drop in coffee club for people in the community who have been affected by Parkinson’s disease. We meet at 10.30 every Friday morning for one hour to chat, drink coffee and relax. If you would like more information, please contact the library, or just turn up. Family Learning Brilliant Stories (FREE) – A unique chance for parents and carers to learn to use tablet computers and an ‘app’ to make up stories with photos, pictures, sounds and words to use with their children. Learn story telling skills and how you can help your children develop. The 20 hour courses will take place at Broadwater Farm Children’s Centre (020 8885 8800), Woodlands Park Children’s Centre (020 8802 0041), South Grove Children’s Centre (020 8802 7520), Northumberland Park Community School (020 8275 4848) and Risley Avenue Primary School (020 8808 0792).
Courses are Free, but dates are restricted and subject to availability. Full attendance on 10 sessions required. Some crèche places may be available for children 1-5 years. CLIF funded project. Meet: Finsbury Park café (next to lake), N4 Harmony Gardens Green Gym Every Friday, 10am – 1pm May is a busy month in the vegetable calendar for sowing beans, beetroot, broccoli, carrots and spinach, and for planting out artichoke, brussels sprouts, cabbage, leek and squash. Join The Conservation Volunteers every Friday to produce vegetables for Broadwater Farm Community Centre’s community kitchen project (and enough for some home cooking) and to create a new wildlife education area. Working in partnership with Back 2 Earth and the Friends of Harmony Gardens, this is an exciting opportunity to get involved in helping to develop this green space.
