This document details the technical changes and revisions included in PV Elite and CodeCalc 2015, SP2 (Version 17.00.02.0004).

Revisions in PV Elite and CodeCalc 2015, SP2 The following revisions were made to PV Elite and CodeCalc software for the Version 2015, Service Pack 2 release.

PV Elite and CodeCalc 2015, SP2 (Version 17.00.02.0005)

Analysis

1. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which the software aborted the analysis when you analyzed a vessel with nozzles in a flat head for the PD 5500 and EN 13445 codes. The software now performs the analysis without failure. (TR-TX-12967)

2. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which the software closed a file when it was modified by another process. Previously, after analyzing a file that was modified by another process, when you closed the output processor, a message displayed asking you to accept the changes. If you accepted the changes, an error occurred, and the software closed the file and could no longer locate it. The issue has been resolved; when a file is modified by another process, the software no longer closes the file if you accept the changes made to it. (TR-TX-12968)

3. Fixed an issue in CodeCalc when you clicked TEMA Tubesheet on a Japanese or Korean

operating system. You can now create a new TEMA tubesheet when using the Japanese or Korean operating systems. (TR-TX-13042)

4. Fixed a discrepancy in PV Elite regarding the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP)

for an element. Previously, the Internal Pressure Calculations report displayed a certain

MAWP for an element, while the output report for the element displayed a lower MAWP. The lower MAWP value should have governed the vessel design as indicated on the Vessel Design Summary report, but the software used the higher value. The software now uses the same

value for the MAWP on all the reports. (TR-TX-13382)

5. Fixed an issue in PV Elite with specifying very small values for the Annual Probability Factor

when using the BS6339-97 wind code. Previously, the software did not save values of less than 0.001 in Annual Probability Factor. The software now allows you to enter a value greater than or equal to 0.0001 in Annual Probability Factor. (TR-TX-13355)

6. Fixed an issue in PV Elite regarding post weld heat treatment (PWHT) and tapered joints

between nozzles and sump heads. Previously, the software prompted that PWHT was required when it may not have been according to section UW-56 of the ASME VIII code. (TR-TX-5788)

7. Fixed an issue in PV Elite regarding the ligament efficiency value for electric immersion heaters.

Previously, when the software calculated the ligament efficiency, the software expressed the result in terms of the thickness unit when the result is unitless. The software no longer assigns a unit to the ligament efficiency value. (TR-TX-9905)

8. Fixed an issue in CodeCalc when you calculated the maximum allowable working pressure

(MAWP) using the flange rigidity value. Previously, when you selected Compute Thickness Based on Flange Rigidity, if you changed the design pressure to equal the calculated MAWP, the software continually calculated a different MAWP due to an issue with the flange rigidity value. (TR-TX-13194)

9. Fixed an issue in PV Elite and CodeCalc regarding stress calculations for basering gussets.

Previously, the software allowed the stress at the design thickness to be greater than the allowable stress. The software now requires the actual stress to be less than the allowable stress. (TR-TX-9196)

10. Fixed an issue in PV Elite regarding hemispherical heads for Division 2 vessels. Previously, the software calculated a hydrotest stress value for hemispherical heads in Division 2 vessels that was higher than it should have been. The software now calculates the appropriate value for the hydrotest stress. This item was resolved in the initial release of version 2015. (TR-TX-10707)

11. Fixed an issue in CodeCalc in which the allowable bolt stress value did not change when you

changed the temperature for an ASME Tubesheet. The software now changes the allowable bolt stress value when you change the material or temperature properties. (TR-TX-13391)

12. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which the software automatically added loads to a nozzle.

Previously, when you added loads to a nozzle on the Nozzle Input/Analysis tab, in certain

instances the software would copy the nozzle loads to a new or existing nozzle. The software no longer inadvertently adds loads to the incorrect nozzles. (TR-TX-13435)

Calculations

13. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which the software calculated an incorrect value for the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) in hydrostatic test pressure calculations per UG-99(b) when the ANSI flange was governing the MAWP. The issue occurred for nozzles that had longer than normal outside projections and were positioned horizontally. This issue caused a slightly higher than normal static pressure to be deducted. The software now correctly calculates the flange MAWP value and subsequently calculates the proper hydrostatic test pressure value. (TR-TX-10654)

14. Fixed an issue in PV Elite concerning stress calculations for horizontal vessels. Previously, in

the ASME horizontal vessel stress calculations, the software computed a conservative value for eta when the shell and wear plate materials were the same. (TR-TX-13038)

15. Updated PV Elite to include a new weld size calculation for integral ring flanges. When you

analyze a vessel with an Integral Ring flange, the fillet weld size calculations per Appendix 2

figures 2-4(7) and 2-4(8-10a) are now both included. In addition, the calculation for the weld size per figure 2-4(8) was revised. (TR-TX-13034)

16. Updated the bending moment variable in a baseplate calculation in PV Elite. Previously, the

Bearing Pressure formula on the Horizontal Vessel Analysis report used the Bplen variable in its calculations. The software has been updated and the Bearing Pressure formula now correctly uses the Bpwid variable instead of the Bplen variable. (TR-TX-13036)

17. Fixed an issue in which the value for the required thickness based on the external temperature

was different on the status bar than in the output reports for the Division 2 design code. Previously, when the temperature for the external pressure was higher than that of the external pressure, the value on the status bar for the required thickness was different than that on the External Pressure Calculations report. The software now displays the correct thickness calculation on both the status bar and the output reports. (TR-TX-13070)

18. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which an incorrect structural height value was calculated for a

certain seismic code. Previously, the software incorrectly calculated the value of the structural height according to the requirements of the IBC 2009 seismic code. The software has been updated and now correctly calculates the structural height as the height above the base to the highest level of the vessel. Note that this affected horizontal vessels only. (TR-TX-13081)

19. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which critical wind velocity unit substitution values were converted

to the correct unit, but the result did not match the substitution results if using metric units. The software now displays the Critical Wind Velocity value in Imperial units and converts that value to English/Metric units, when applicable. (TR-TX-10092)

20. Fixed an issue in PV Elite regarding the hydrotest pressure calculations for certain EN 13445 heads (not spherical). In some cases the hydrotest stress on the head was not being displayed properly in the output. The software now correctly calculates the hydrostatic test stress in these cases. (TR-TX-10078)

21. Fixed an issue in PV Elite concerning calculations for Type 1 and Type 2 jackets with stiffeners

under the jackets. Previously, the software did not consider stiffeners in the thickness calculations for a jacket that displayed on the Jacket/VB Calcs report, resulting in a

conservative value for the core thickness based on the external pressure. The correct thickness values in these cases now displays in the External Pressure Calculations report. (TR-TX-

11782)

22. Fixed an issue in PV Elite concerning the bending moment value for a support lug. Previously, in the support lug calculations, the software accurately calculated the value for the maximum bending moment, M1, but incorrectly multiplied M1 by another value in a later formula. (TR-TX-8725)

23. Fixed an issue in PV Elite with the jacket head thickness in external pressure calculations.

Previously, the software calculated and used an incorrect jacket head thickness value in the maximum allowable external pressure (MAEP) calculation for the external pressure. (TR-TX-13164)

24. Fixed an issue in PV Elite and CodeCalc regarding values used in expansion joint calculations. Previously, the method the software used to determine the variable in the SYSTAR calculation for thin expansion joints sometimes resulted in an incorrect value. The software now uses the input from Material Condition on the Thin Expansion Joint Data Input dialog box to determine the variable needed in the SYSTAR calculation. (TR-TX-13142)

25. Fixed an issue in PV Elite with thickness calculations for vessels using EN 13445 when there was no internal pressure. Previously, the formula for thickness due to internal pressure calculated as a positive value when it should have resulted in a value of zero. Now, when you enter a zero for the internal pressure on vessels using EN 13445, an error message displays prompting you to enter a value greater than zero. (TR-TX-10079)

26. Fixed various minor issues in PV Elite related to calculations for thin bellows. Corrected the display of the formula for S1P to show the value for variable, Eb, instead of the value for variable, Ec. Updated calculations for expansion joints with reinforcing rings which were

resulting in conservative external pressure capacity amounts. In addition, the software also displays the metric units for Ko. (TR-TX-13369)

27. Updated calculations in PV Elite regarding vacuum pressures for TEMA U-Tube heat

exchangers. Previously, when the shell side of a TEMA U-Tube heat exchanger contained a vacuum pressure, the software did not add that pressure to the tube side of the tubesheet. The software now automatically adds the vacuum pressure to the tube side of the tubesheet calculation. (TR-TX-13397)

User Interface

28. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which the plotting graphic did not display on the Flange Graphics window for Loose Reverse Weld Neck flange types. The software now displays the plotting of the flange when you select Loose Reverse Weld Neck. (TR-TX-12969)

29. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which the file name for a vessel did not display in the designated

Jobname section when you printed the plotting of nozzles or flanges to PDF. The software has been updated and the file name now displays in the top right corner of the PDF. (TR-TX-12959)

30. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which rigging results reports did not display full results when the

magnitude of the generated moments were very large. The software now allows the graphs to plot when the moments are extremely large. (TR-TX-8341)

Material

31. Fixed an issue with selecting the ASME metric material database in CodeCalc when using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. Previously, when you selected Use Metric ASME Material Database on the Configuration dialog box, the software stopped functioning. However, the

software functioned as expected when you opened an existing file containing a material from the metric material database. The issue has been resolved and you can now successfully select the ASME metric material database option when using the Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 operating system. (TR-TX-12990)

32. Removed a duplicate instance of the material, SA-350 LF2 Class 1, in the ASME metric

material database. (TR-TX-13357)

33. Updated properties for three materials in the EN 13445 material database in PV Elite. Previously, the material for record number 858, (P285QH, 250 mm thickness) contained

incorrect stress values. The material name for record number 953 was incorrectly named X3CrNiCu 19-9-4+At. Also, the material name for record numbers 941 and 942, was incorrectly named X5CrNi180-10 and incorrectly labelled as Non-Austenitic. The software has been updated and material P285QH now contains the proper stress values according to the code. The material for record number 953 has been properly renamed to X3CrNiCu 18-9-4 +AT. In

addition, the material name for record numbers 941 and 942 have been properly renamed to X5CrNi18-10 and relabeled as Austenitic. (TR-TX-5668, TR-TX-13020, TR-TX-13387)

34. Fixed an issue in the Material Database Editor application in which materials in the metric

database displayed in Imperial units when you went to print them out. Previously, if you selected a material from the metric material database, the material properties displayed in Imperial units in the Print/Preview tab. The software now properly displays the materials in

metric units. (TR-TX-3233)

Output Reports

35. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which the software displayed an incorrect variable in a formula on the Flg Calc report for blind flanges. Previously, the software displayed the Bcor variable instead of the Bsc variable as the bolt spacing factor in the Tangential Flange Stress, Flat Head (UG-34), Seating [Sta] formula on the Flg Calc report; however, the substitution value and result were still correct. The software now correctly displays the Bsc variable as the bolt

spacing factor in the formula. (TR-TX-12899)

36. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which an output report incorrectly referenced a section of the code. Previously when you placed a nozzle on a flat head, the Area Required formula for the flat head opening on the Nozzle Calcs report referenced sections UG-39 and UG-37(d) of the code. The report now only references section UG-39(a)(1). (CR-TX-12932)

37. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which the variable, not a value, displayed in a formula substitution

on the Internal Pressure Calculations output report. Previously, the variable P displayed in the Computed Stress Intensity at Design Pressure formula substitution instead of the variable's value. The value for P now displays in the formula substitution. (TR-TX-11130)

38. Fixed an issue in which a material did not display as normalized on the Input Echo output

report. Previously, when you added a stiffener ring to a cylinder and indicated that the stiffener ring material was normalized, the Input Echo output report did not show the changes. The

output reports noiw accurately reflect when a material is normalized. (TR-TX-11789)

39. Fixed an issue in PV Elite regarding formula substitutions in calculations for horizontal vessels.

Previously, the software used the shell side pressure in the sigma5 formula substitution

horizontal vessel calculations instead of the tube side pressure. The software now correctly uses the value of the tube side pressure for the P variable in the sigma5 formula substitution calculation on the Horizontal Vessel Analysis (Ope.) report. (TR-TX-12376)

40. Fixed an issue in PV Elite in which a warning message displayed during analysis indicating that the value of the cone term f1 or f2 was negative, but neither the warning message nor the cone

term calculations displayed in the output. The software now displays the warning message and cone term calculations in the Conical Section report. (CR-TX-9519)

41. Added a clarifying message to the ASME TS Calc report regarding minimum length calculations for simply supported UHX fixed tubesheets. Previously, the ASME TS Calc report

contained minimum shell and channel length calculations for the tubesheets, although they were not required per UHX rules. The software now contains a message clarifying that for tubesheets that meet stress and thickness requirements, the minimum length calculations are for information only. (TR-TX-1398)
