    Whats new in Plimmerton?

    April 2013Plimmerton promenades at the beach and the ball 2013The final programme is on our web site, check it outwww.plimmerton.org.nz/plimmerton-promenades-2/ Maps and programme havebeen delivered to letterboxes and posters are going up everywhere.Why are people knocking their socks off to create this event? As well as celebratingthe heyday of tea dances and beach sports here in the 50s and 60s, this event is a fundraiser for our volunteer fire brigade. Money raised on the day will go to equipping thefire fighters van with vital first aid equipment and radios for use in emergencies. Weall benefit from the efforts of our volunteer fire fighters, they do an amazing job.

    Traffic delays on Saturday 6 AprilThe parade for this event will muster and start moving along Steyne Ave (slowly) at10am and could delay traffic for 20-30 minutes. Please plan your travel around thistime (try to leave before 9.30 or after 10.30) or take the alternative route over AirlieRoad.

    Some late changes to the programmeDog fancy dress parade ... families with dogs on leads muster at Queens Ave Park offSteyne Ave at 12.15 ready to parade around the waterfront via the pavilion at 12.30.

    Dancers performing ... on the tennis court and outside St Andrews from 10am tillmidday ... Citylife Zumba, Reel Jig and Kerry Irish dancers, White Rose Morris dancers,and youngsters from Springhill Dance plus singers from Aotea and Bishop Viard Collegesand players from the Ukulele Institute. From 12.30 till 2.30 in Plimmerton School halltheres Flow Dance Group, Argentinean Tango with a talented tango team, PlimmertonSchool of Dance, steamy salsa with Lily and co from Salsa Therapy, Rock n Roll with ademo and give-it-a-go, young dancers and singers from Dance Stars and amazingexploits from Extreme dance. Comfy seats and a guaranteed dance spectacle.

    Dancers will parade from Steyne Ave to the school just before midday.

    Fantastic guest speaker for AGM Monday 27 MayDenise Carnihan will share the inspiring story of Kia Ora School that she and husbandChris have built in a slum area in Kenya. Its already bursting at the seams and itcontinues to grow. This young local couple are doing an amazing job and Denise sharestheir experience with passion, humour and heart warming photos and stories of thekids who are so keen to learn.

    Put this date in your diary now.

    Also at the AGM: prize draw for all great prizes (see next item), yummy supper, projectupdates and a bit of business.

    PCCs annual plan ... four weeks for submissionsThere is info on our web site and in Kapi Mana 26 March page 6. This details prioritiesin this years plan and invites you to a meeting at Pauatahanui Lighthouse, Wednesday10 April at 7:30pm with the mayor and councillors.

    Porirua Grand Traverse 2013 ... Sunday 7 AprilPoriruas iconic multisport event offers five options to encourage participation byeveryone. A fun day out for the whole family with events for all ages and all abilities:challenges for up-and-coming multi-sporters; a fun run/walk; a mountain run; a

    mountain bike race, and the sole off road multi sport and duathalon events for heavyduty athletes.

    Marshals are needed and this involves about five hours on the course (folding chairs OK)directing people to stay on track. Those with bike race marshalling experiencewelcome as the training has already taken place. Contact [email protected]

    Wiring warningDo you have an annoying flickering light at your place? Get it checked by an electricianwithout delay! A local couple had this problem recently in their kitchen and woke upin the night to find their ceiling on fire. Faulty wiring was the problem. Luckily there

    was no catastrophic damage in this case.Our fire brigade needs more volunteers and invites you to their open day on Saturday 6April (part of Plimmerton promenades at the beach and the ball).
