    May 2013AGM speaker will appeal to all ages ... Monday 27 MayDenise Carnihan will share the inspiring story of Kia Ora School that she and builder husbandChris have established in a slum area in Kenya.     Mid Winter dip approaching ... are you ready?The drought has broken, days are getting shorter and theres a chill in the air. This canonly mean one thing ... Plimmertons Midwinter Dip is fast approaching! This annual

    fundraiser for Plimmerton Kindergarten is a fantastic community event which is always wellsupported, and gives everyone a chance to show what they are made of! Sunday 23 June isthe big day so mark your calendars now, keep an eye on our websitewww.midwinterdip.com for updates and get ready to take the plunge!

    Smoke alarms, batteries and chimney cleaningSenior fire officer Dave Anderson tells us, We were called to a bedroom fire in Plimmertonrecently. Fortunately the tenant, when he realised what was happening, closed the doorand windows containing the spread of the fire. Not one smoke alarm had been installed inthis home! Alarms only cost around $15 and are available from hardware stores everywhere.This incident could have had a very different ending.

    Dave reminds us that you can call the local volunteer fire brigade if you need help to installyour smoke alarms call the fire station and leave a message 233 8912.

    Public Art Policy and updated Village Plan now on web siteA public art policy for Plimmerton has been developed over time by the association withexpert input. It gives a set of guidelines to be followed if the PRA commissions any publicart or is reviewing works offered as public art to the community.

    The updated village plan has now also been published on our web site. This updates theoriginal 2004 plan and the residents survey carried out in 2010.

    Community constable advises vigilanceWhile property damage, tagging and theft are not rampant here right now Jonathan advises

    us to be vigilant by keeping an eye on neighbouring properties and contacting police whensuspicious behaviour is noticed.

    Security cameras sought Im aware that some residents have security cameras coveringtheir street and these have proved very useful in the past.     Independent economic review of PCC to go aheadPorirua economic group has succeeded in having an independent review of PCCs operatingexpenditure which will be $70,379,000 for 2012. This independent review will look at waysPCC can improve value for money. Chairman Peter Davies says, Use of an independentconsultant avoids debate over political priorities and puts the focus on improving efficiencyand effectiveness.     Vets warn of Kennel cough outbreakCurrent kennel cough vaccines protect most dogs against the many strains of infections thatcome under the kennel cough umbrella.
